Pay for air ..................

I saw one similar to this a little while ago at a Speedway Station. Ironic, you could pay for AIR with a VISA or a MasterCard.

I got to thinking back many years, to a Pure Oil Station that was only a few blocks from where we lived. I spent a lot of time there with my '46 Plymouth coupe, I even worked there some, pumping gas, cleaning windshields, checking oil and water, all the things they used to do in a "service" station.

In those days, credit cards were unheard of and air was FREE. As I recall, we even had an air hose at each island so tires could be checked, if asked.

But now, insert your card in that little black channel slot thing there, the pump comes to life, and you get air swooshing out, not FREE AIR as it used to be, just AIR.

I do remember the hoses used to get periodically stolen, so there was a cost there, but credit card air is, well, another thing that is difficult to understand for an old timer, like myself.
