Gone but never forgotten

Another BIG chunk of my past is gone ..................... I spent many hours listening to them on the old Philco, seeing them in movies, and can associate many memories by their songs. They did a few movies with my favorites, Abbot and Costello. I am sitting here listening to "40's" music on the TV, just heard them sing "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree," which was one of my brother's favorite songs. The last of a great musical trio and tradition has been silenced......... a few tried to copy them, but non surpassed them. They were a big part of WWII ...................

Patty Andrews, the lead singer of the Andrews Sisters, one of the earliest and most popular girl groups of the last century, died yesterday at the age of 94. While you may not have known her by her first name, you’ve undoubtedly heard soprano Patty and her older sisters singing jaunty, lively harmonies over a doo-wop beat in movies, TV shows, or commercial jingles, bringing mid-century nostalgia to everything their voices touched.

Best known for such songs as “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” and “The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” the trio—which also included LaVerne, who died in 1967, and Maxene, who died in 1995—peaked in popularity during World War II, when they entertained soldiers overseas and became symbolic of a certain kind of Americana in the process.

I've still got a little time .

Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they 're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember ..
Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. 'Want anything while I 'm in the kitchen? ' he asks.

'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream? '

'Sure. '

'Don 't you think you should write it down so you can remember it? ' she asks.

'No, I can remember it. '

'Well, I 'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it? '

He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries. '

'I 'd also like whipped cream. I 'm certain you 'll forget that, write it down? ' she asks.

Irritated, he says, 'I don 't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake! '

Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes,  the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment.

'Where 's my toast? '

Occupy Wall St. results

It seems those Occupy Wall Streeters were a lot closer to the 1 percent than they would like to admit.

A new study of the OWS movement in New York found that many of the protesters were highly educated and not nearly as down on their luck as they portrayed.

A third of protesters in the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York lived in households earning more than $100,000 and more than two- thirds were employed professionals, according to the study from CUNY’s Joseph A. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies.

The study also showed the movement was mostly organized by experienced political operatives and nearly all of those involved — 76 percent — were college educated.

Of those, half had graduate degrees and among those with bachelor’s degrees, and 28 percent had attended elite universities.

“Occupy Wall Street was not a spontaneous eruption but rather an action carefully planned by committed activists,” the study concluded.

Parking lot observations ..........

I just spent an hour in a Meijers Parking Lot waiting for my wife. Seems like I spend quite a bit of time doing that. But, I am a people watcher" so I do enjoy the time.

Observations today. There are a lot of pick-up trucks. Two-door, four-door, some are real "good old boy" trucks. Many people get a truck and then put a cover over the back. All types drive pickups, male, female, young and old. One young lady was drinking a Coke, smoking and talking on her cell phone. She had a big four-door, king cab with gigantic wheels, covered in mud.

I saw fewer people today talking on their cell phones. One woman was texting, but only when she got out of her Blazer.

Older people like older BIG cars. Old women seem to prefer BIGGER cars. Many older women drive Caddies and Lincolns, one had a Mercedes, all newer cars, all alone, probably life insurance money got them their new expensive cars. None looked sad.

A lot of bald old men have beards. Why can their beard grow and not their hair?

Drivers of pickup trucks are less likely to put their shopping carts in those stalls when they are done. They leave them where their truck was parked. Not all of them, but many  of them.

Some of the more "obese" shoppers seemed to purchase the most soft drinks. One lady had four cases of Pepsi, and she was quite overweight, to say the least.

Older, widowers, and I am speculating on this, they were alone and seemed alone, walk slower through the parking lot than couples. One older man got out of his car, a big Mercury, walked about twenty yards toward the store, stopped, took off his coat, (it was a nice warm day), took it back to his car, and thought about it for a few minutes, then walked into the store.

Some pickup drivers like to back into the parking spaces. One backed into a space where there was no car behind him, he could have driven through and parked that way. And, I might add, he parked dead center in the spot. I was never that good backing in.

One last observation. Large breasted women purchase a lot of soda pop of all kinds, mostly the regular stuff, not the diet.

One more, I can only wait for an hour, then I have to go in the store. I am doing better, after almost 50 years of marriage and waiting  I am getting better at keeping my mouth shut. If I wasn't sitting in the parking lot I would be sitting here, watching TV, and tapping away on this computer. I have accepted that. At my age, doing anything is better than the alternative.

It Will Work ............

A health update, which I occasionally do, and the reason, I have a calcium thing at the base of my spine, another one upper neck, and occasional dizziness and a few other ailments that are natural for my age. But, today I am turning that all around, I am going to start on a dosage of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with honey, in a glass of water, twice a day. I am doing a progress report here, to keep reminding myself to do it.

Many years ago, my Dad, the Doctor, had a bad case of hiccups. Someone gave him a book on folk medicine and of course, being an MD he scoffed at it. The cure, apple cider vinegar and water. He reluctantly drank it, skeptical, but, the hiccups stopped.

I read most of the book and have, on appropriate occasions, taken some, honey and some other recommendations in the book.

I am on my way to the store, I have seen the Braggs on their shelf. The Braggs is a cloudy liquid and has all the good stuff in it. Regular stuff does not, it is clear.

I'm on my way, feeling better already, just thinking about it.

Bullied ... 11 year old ... Suicide

Counselors and a crisis team are in London (Ohio) Elementary School today to help students and employees deal with the news that an 11-year-old student killed herself at home over the weekend.

London Police Chief David Wiseman said Hailey Petee, who was in the fifth grade, hanged herself in her bedroom overnight Saturday. Police were called to the family’s London home on Walnut Street at 12:17 a.m. Sunday.

Wiseman, who is part of the county’s suicide-prevention coalition, said it’s been a difficult weekend for everyone involved.

London Schools Superintendant Thomas Ben said counselors will stay on hand as long as necessary.

“It’s a terribly sad day,” he said.

Hailey’s parents, Melinda Groce and David Petee, said this afternoon that their daughter has been teased and bullied by neighborhood kids for months. They are putting out a call to action for it to stop.

Hailey, her dad said, has always worn glasses, the lenses so thick they distorted the look of her eyes. And she’s always been loud, outspoken, hyper — she took medication for her attention-deficit disorder — and other kids teased her because of it.

It must be extremely difficult to be a teenager today. When I was in school my only worry revolved around homework. Oh, other worries arose, none so devastating that suicide was contemplated, however.

Respect ....... ?

Seriously, think about it, who do you really respect anymore?

I guess I still have respect for all of my high school teachers at Oakwood High School, in Dayton, Ohio. I always referred to them by their last name, and Mam or Sir. Later on in life I was in a position to see one of my old teachers regularly, where I ate lunch. He was always Mr. Eikenberry. He would tell me, "Call me Al."
"I can't, you will always be Mr.Eikenberry to me." And, he was.

I had a great deal of respect for Doctors, Lawyers, and even politicians, in those days. Ministers I had a great deal of respect for, especially on Sunday mornings in those black robes. Catholic Priests I was in awe of, because the whole Catholic religion I knew nothing about, it was all very mysterious. I thought it was neat to wear something around your neck, and to cross yourself, and the kneeling in church was something we did not do in our United Brethren Church. Nuns I knew nothing about, they were a mystery to me, but I had a great deal of respect for them.

Some of those Sunday Morning Evangelists I listened to, Rex Humbard, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swagert, even old Legoy Jenkins. Then I learned how much money they were making, and questioned their intentions. I don't question them anymore, or the new breed, I know their intentions.

I respected Police Officers and the law, speed limits and warning signs.

Now, after living all these years, and outliving most of them, it takes a great deal of thought to come with someone I really do respect. Let me think about it, I'm sure there must be someone.

Nurses, school teachers, not all of them, but most of them. School teachers that are dedicated, conscientious and caring and genuinely, sincerely interested in their pupils are to be respected. Most are underpaid. Most of my old teachers adhered to the theory that if "The student hasn't learned, the teachers hasn't taught." All who live by that have my respect.

The rest of the small list needs to be thought about.

OKLAHOMA ......................

'Be who you are and say what you feel, because those that matter - don't mind...
and those that mind - don't matter.'
While everyone is focusing on Arizona 's new law, look what Oklahoma has been doing!!!!
An update from Oklahoma :
Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9 an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Hey this is a conservative Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.

Oklahoma recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from unless they want to get a green card and become an American citizen. They all scattered. HB 1804. This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and the ACLU, they said it would be a mistake.
Guess what.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.

Recently we passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all illegal's to the Oklahoma database, for criminal investigative purposes. Pelosi said it was unconstitutional SB 1102
Guess what......... Oklahoma did it anyway.

Several weeks ago, we passed a law, declaring Oklahoma as a Sovereign state, not under the Federal Government directives. Joining Texas , Montana and Utah as the only states to do so.                           More states are likely to follow: Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolina's, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi and Florida . Save your confederate money, it appears the South is about to rise up once again. HJR 1003

The federal Government has made bold steps to take away our guns. Oklahoma , a week ago, passed a law confirming people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm sure that was a set back for the criminals The Liberals didn't like it -- But ....
Guess what........... Oklahoma did it anyway .

Recently the state has voted and passed a law that ALL driver's license exams will be printed in English, and only English, and no other language. They have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of the road signs are in English only
If you want to drive in Oklahoma , you must read and write English. Really simple.
By the way, the Liberals don't like any of this either
Guess what...who cares... Oklahoma is doing it anyway.

Saturday Morning

Years ago, a Saturday morning meant no school, two days off, Saturday was an adventure. It used to mean sleeping in, cowboy movies at the Ohio Theater in Dayton, Hoot Gibson, Johnny Mac Brown, Harry Carey, Tim Holt, a whole afternoon of Westerns.

These along with those Serials, Ace Drummond, Zorro's Fighting Legion, all cliffhangers, left you hanging for a whole week. The popcorn, have never eaten any that was better, generally accompanied by Milk Duds, or  JoJo Beans, I think they were called. Spent many Saturday afternoons in that old theater.

Later, in the early fifties, I attended The Citadel, in Charleston, South Carolina, and Saturday mornings were taken up with SMI's, the old Saturday Morning Inspection.  Friday night meant cleaning our rooms, having everything folded properly, in its right place, brass work polished, shoes shined and the old wooden floors soaked in bleach, to a nice clean white. Those barracks we lived in were quit old and I always wondered how those floors had withstood that weekly treatment.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Saturdays, sometimes it was house cleaning day, laundry day, the start of a weekend with the wife and kids, now, many Saturdays later, I still try to make it a special day. Not easy today, cold and a lot of snow on the ground.

But, today, another Saturday, a special one, my daughter, Melissa Shannon Dooley Dunlap, has a birthday. Later on I will have to shovel a path to the car, get about four or five inches of snow off the car, and head to a birthday party.

I still love Saturday, always something special.

Still on line in Ohio ............

The weather is bitter cold and snowy outside, nothing I can do about that, just sit back and wait for Spring. Much the same as my feelings about our government, nothing I can do about it, just sit back and wait, not sure what we are waiting for, and we may not know when it happens, and when it does it may be too late, but still, all we can do is wait.

I must admit that I have reached a point where the news means nothing to me, it goes through one ear and out the other. I only know that what I am hearing is of questionable truth, and no one is to blame.

The one story that got my attention pertained to women in combat. How is that determined? What is combat? I see footage of women, in uniforms, same as the men, carrying the same rifle, being shot at with the same bullets as the men, maybe they just did not draw "combat pay."

But, the big, important news on TV, the Super Bowl. I remember when it was just a football game, a Championship Game, not a gigantic TV spectacle. This part of the Winter can be dull, so the TV moguls have taken this opportunity to "fill" the time with this game.  Just saw a commercial, "By a NEW, larger TV to watch the BIG game on."

The Sun is shining brightly in Ohio right now, that helps somewhat, but not enough to stimulate my creative brain cells.when does baseball's Spring Training start? I feel warmer and full of optimism when I hear that they are reporting to camp. I may go through my fishing tackle box, that always helps.

Dust a few cobwebs ...

Stewardesses is the longest word typed with only the  left hand.

And  lollipop is the longest word typed with your  right hand.

No word in the English language rhymes with
month - orange - silver -  purple

There  are only four words in the English language  which end in 'dous':
tremendous - horrendous - stupendous - hazardous.

There  are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order
abstemious and  facetious

Just a lucky coincidence

I really don't think that professional sports is fixed. I realize how powerful the television networks are, and that they are heavily involved in televising professional sports, and a great deal of their income is derived from TV. Yes, I have seen that guy with the red sleeve on his arm, and yes, I know he lets them know when to play their games, and in some respects, dictates the games.

It was a coincidence that many weeks ago I mentioned that it would be a great thing for TV, if the Super Bowl ended up with a "battle" of brothers. It will be lost, which two teams are playing, just a lot of ink on how the "always competitive" Harbaugh brothers are at it again. How great is that. It might even over shadow who the half time entertainer is going to be. All the many, endless, hours of hearing those "experts" (actually retired players who majored in basket weaving and unemployed coaches) talk incessantly about the upcoming game.

We will see photographs of the boys when they were young, hear all about their history as they were growing up, interviews with their parents,  friends, relatives probably remotes from Toledo, California and Ann Arbor, interviews of teammates from college, and, as it is now called, the Harbowl.

I'm sure the dream scenario is a coincidence, there is no way the games could have been slanted, just to oblige television and give them an opportunity for a many million, or perhaps a billion dollar payday.

I did watch the playoff games, and I admit there was some great play by some and mediocre play by others who generally played better. No way the outcome could have been scripted, no way? Some greats justt have bad days, and some unknowns play better, it just happens that way, I'm sure.

Some more Prosonian comments

Some information I neglected to relate in my previous article on the Prosonians.

Many of the populace felt that Osan was not, in fact, even a Prosonian. It had been decreed earlier, that a Pleban must be a a true Prosonian, and Osan never produced any documentation that he was, in fact, a Prosonian. This was another instance where the charismatic Osan was able to exert his will over the people, and the apathetic populace allowed him to prevail.

There were incidents, also, of unrelated events that happened throughout Prosonia, that seemed to direct the thinking of the populace toward subjects that seemed to fit into the overall plan of Osan to exert his will over the populace and dissuade them toward the teachings of Musan.

The book I read never indicated who might have been the originator of the diabolic plan of the Mosins to take over the leadership of the Prosonians. Many felt that Osan was only a figurehead in the plan and other powerful factions within the realm were actually responsible for formulating the diabolical plan, some felt that perhaps the teaching of Musan were responsible, through factions in other parts of the country.

Historians in Prosonia related and compared some historic experiences as a possible blueprint to Osan and his obvious, to some, subtle plan to rule Prosonia.

When the Prosonians finally realized what was happening in their country, it was too late, Osan and his followers were thoroughly ingrained in the government and governing of the country.

Can history repeat?

I found a unique book the other day, it was the "History of the Prosonians." They are a unique society, much different than ours, and in some ways, identically the same. They are a mirror of our society, only now, they are just perceptions, they are what we perceive them to be.

Years ago, they were a thriving people, they had a humble beginning, they had been ruled by the Arinthians, but declared their independence from them, and started their own form of government. The country prospered for many years, they had their ups and downs.

They became embroiled in a civil war, then two wars, a few Blars with other countries, their economy got out of control, and they were spending much more than they were taking in, in trostys.

They eventually elected a Gornan by the name of Osan as their Pleban, the first Gornan to hold  that post. He was a very popular Pleban, some questioned his loyalty to the ideals of the Prosonians, but he was very charismatic, and the populace seemed to overlook what was happening to the country and the Prosonian way of life.

The Mosins, which were a very powerful religious sect, lived by the teachings of their Musan, which was a compilation of thoughts and edicts which their leader had transcribed and had become the way of life for the Mosins.

It had been rumored for some time that Osan followed the beliefs of the Mosins, and he was merely a pawn in a much larger scheme to eventually impose the will of the Mosins on all of the country and perhaps the world. The Prosonians seems mesmerized by Osan. When the Prosonians met every four qrons, they seemed to  prefer to be ruled by Osan and elevated him to that position each time.

Osan eventually was able to exert his will over the people by avoiding decisions by the Protari, which was the body of Prosonians who made decisions, and exert his will by issuing Garthers, which were his own decisions that he willed for the good of the Prosonians, and unknown to all, his own plan. The Prosonian populace seemed mesmerized by Osan and his Garthers, and followed them as he issued them.

Osan mandated many of his ideas on the Prosonians in his attempt to lead the whole populace of Prosonians into the path of the Mosins. It was realized, too late, that Osan, was, in fact, a Mosin, and that he believed and followed all of the teachings of the Mosins.

Osan issued a Garther which enabled him to become the Prosonian leader, and he dictated that there would be no more need for the country to elevate him every four qrons, he would remain their leader for his lifetime. It was dictated, by Osan, that all Prosonians attend the Mosin meetings and follow their teachings. The will of the Prosonian populace was taken away and it was mandatory that all would alter their beliefs. The Prosonians existed, but not as free thinkers as they had been, but they were enslaved to the Mosin lifestyle. They lost their life forms, and became, merely perceptions. They were only, as perceived.

They walk among us today, you have seen some, perhaps work with some, one of your friends could be a Prosonian, or, they could be nothing. The Mosins are everywhere, they are diabolic, they have their own plan. They have taken over the Prosonian way of life and are looking for other populaces to conquer.

Beware of the Mosins, they are seeking control of our world, using the same subtle method to take over our world .............................

Ex-New Orleans Mayor Indicted for Corruption

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin faces 21 charges including bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud.

Mr. Nagin set up "a bribery and kickback scheme" to sell the power of his public office, according to the indictment. He also allegedly received a range of bribes, including tens of thousands of dollars in cash payoffs, granite for his family's granite business, private jet travel across the country and limousine rides, the indictment asserts.

Mr. Nagin's attorney, Robert Jenkins, didn't return calls seeking comment.

Mr. Nagin, 56 years old, has said little publicly in recent months, aside from posting Biblical and inspirational quotations on his Twitter feed. On Friday, he retweeted a statement by the televangelist Joel Osteen: "You are closest to your victory when you face the greatest opposition."

Mr. Nagin is set to be arraigned Jan. 31.

FACTS not publicised

I received this blog today, found it interesting, and wanted to share, more to think about. You can find his blog HERE.

It's interesting that none of the media brings this up. I wonder if they would discuss it if the shooters were NRA members and/or Republicans?

Facts of and on Liberal SHOOTERS !
"Why is it the progressive liberal that steals guns then go and kill movie goers and children in school has never been a NRA member?"
Ft Hood - Registered Democrat- Muslim
Columbine - Too young to vote- both families were registered democrats and progressive liberals
VaTech - Wrote hate mail to Pres Bush and to his staff. Registered Democrat
Colorado Theater - Registered Democrat, staff worker on the Obama campaign, occupy wall street participant, progressive liberal

Connecticut School Shooter - Registered Democrat, hated Christians

Common thread is that all of these shooters were progressive liberal Democrats.

A little stroll down memory lane

Earlier today I emailed some relatives about my brother. The article I did on Shelby Linville brought back some memories, and in that TV interview he brought up some names of people I knew, and even mentioned my brothers name, by mistake, I think he meant Vince Dooley, but said Dean Dooley. I think he knew my brother, and may even have worked with him. Linville also mentioned a few names of players my brother had coached.

In my email to my niece I mentioned that her Dad had coached both Jerry Lucas and John Havllichek when he coached an Ohio High School All Star team.

Her reply:  I remember riding in a station wagon with Lucas and Havlichek - Dad was driving us somewhere....probably to an Ohio All Star game...maybe in Columbus? I was 12 or so.... both men were so tall they had to open their windows so their heads could stick out... only way they could fit in the car.

What a great memory that is for her, not many can say they rode in a vehicle with both of those greats. I envy her/

One story I remember my brother telling about Lucas, he was in Middletown in the office of Paul Walker, the Middletown coach. He had sent for Lucas to come to his office. When he arrived, Coach Walker informed him that he had four tickets for a basketball game that night, and a chance to see the Harlem Globetrotters. Here was a chance for this highly touted young basketball player to see a well known team play. His reply, "No thanks, coach, I've got some studying to do tonight."

GREAT photograph ................

You just have to love this guy

Shelby Linville

Who is Shelby Linville, you ask? He actually is from my past, and I got to thinking of him the other day. I try, once in a while, not every day, to do some memory testing. I will pick a time or a date or a place, and try to remember back to that point. Yesterday, for some reason, I picked basketball, and tried to remember who played on the Middletown Middies, state champions a few times, Bob Grimes, McChesney and Shelby Linville.

I think Shelby played on two state championship teams, and one national championship team at Kentucky. He played for the legendary coach at Middletown, Paul Walker, who brought state wide prominence in basketball to Middletown. Later on, Walker coached Jerry Lucas.

Why Shelby Linville? I was an avid basketball fan in those days, spent many an hour at the old fairgrounds coliseum. High school on Friday and Saturday, Sunday, a visiting touring team, or in those days, Industrial Teams, got to see all the greats in those days. Cousey, George Miken, the old Globetrotters, "Sweetwater" Clifton.

But I still remember the first time I saw Shelby Linville. A regional tournament game, not sure who Middletown was playing, but in walked the Middletown team. Shelby had some sort of a charisma about him, he looked like a basketball player, he walked like a basketball player, he became an icon to me, I have judged many people over the years by their comparison to him.

His obituary, August 5, 2008 .......
Shelby Linville, who played on Kentucky's 1950-51 national championship basketball team, has died in Ohio. He was 78.
Phil Linville says his father died of cancer Tuesday at a nursing home in Middletown.
Linville's Middletown High School team won two state championships in the 1940s, and he was a member of the school's athletic hall of fame.
Linville was a teacher and coach at several schools and was a Baptist minister for more than 40 years. His son says he continued to conduct Bible studies at his home in Middletown until he entered the nursing home this Spring.
Linville is survived by his wife, Yvonne; three sons; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was someone I remembered when the occasions arose, or something would flash back to an earlier time and place. He impacted my life in some ways, he didn't know it, and we never met.

An interesting interview with Shelby

MORE don't do as I do ... do as I say

President Barack Obama wants to leave every American home unprotected except their own.  They want to take all of our guns away, despite the numerous reports of law abiding citizens using their guns to protect themselves and their children.

Yet, back in December, Obama told an ABC Nightline interviewer that one of the benefits of being re-elected is having men around at all times to protect his daughters.

He doesn't give a damn about your daughters or my daughters or our wives and mothers.  Obama doesn't care about 18 year old Sarah McKinley and her infant son who had to shoot an intruder in her home.  Biden and Bloomberg don’t care about 12 year old Kendra St. Clair who had to shoot an intruder in her home.  They don’t care about Donnie Herman’s wife and twin sons.  They would have preferred for her to face her home intruder unarmed rather than shoot the intruder and defend herself and her boys.

Obama only cares about his daughters and his family.  That’s why he just signed a bill into law that insures that he and every other president will have lifetime protection by armed Secret Service agents.  The bill also provides for armed Secret Service protection for all First Ladies for life and for all children of presidents up to the age of 16.

How convenient for the child rider in the bill since very few presidents have children that young when they leave office because they are usually older and their kids are grown.  Chelsea Clinton was 21 when her dad vacated the Oval Office.  If we are able to evict Obama in 2016, his girls will be 18 and 15 at the time.

Doesn't it seem hypocritical for someone who is so anti-gun and contemplating violating the US Constitution and the Second Amendment to strip Americans of the guns they use to protect themselves and their families to sign a bill into law granting armed protection for the rest of his life?

Talk about the ultimate entitlement!  And then to add insult to injury, all of us will be forced to pay for his hypocrisy and armed Secret Service protection.

Way to go ......... Wyoming ........

Rather than wait and see what the Obama Administration and a complacent Congress choose to foist on American gun owners, Wyoming legislators are proposing a Firearms Protection Act.

The proposed legislation would protect gun owners from any federal bans on assault weapons or large-capacity magazines by making federal laws against semiautomatic rifles and clips unenforceable within the state.

The proposed legislation would go as far as making any federal agent who tried to enforce a federal anti-gun law within the state subject to a felony. It would also allow the Wyoming Attorney General’s office to defend state residents.

One of the legislation’s sponsors said the law is a message to the Obama Administration. “It says that your one size fits all solution doesn't comport to what a vast majority of the state believes,” state Sen. Larry Hicks said.

Will President Obama order the Treasury to mint a $1 trillion coin? It’s possible

It’s the question making its way around Washington: Will President Barack Obama order the U.S. Treasury to mint a $1 trillion coin in order to avoid the debt ceiling debate.

Early indications seem to point in the direction of the White House wanting to avoid a debate over executive power.

The debate over minting a $1 trillion coin hinges on a relatively obscure law that allows the Treasury to mint platinum coins in any denomination he sees fit.

The legal clause grants the secretary of the Treasury the right to mint and issue platinum coins in any quantity or denomination he chooses. Following the creation of the coin, he might deposit it at the Federal Reserve, providing the Reserve with the ability to continue its buying and selling operations.

When Congress raised the ceiling again, the administration could then take the platinum coin and destroy it. With Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner remaining a close ally of Obama, it seems unlikely he would reject an order if given.

And, only God can make a tree, but look what Obama can do.

Sandy Hook fundraising relief page created 3 days before shooting

It was tragic, those events of that day. I hate to admit it, but one of my first thoughts was, "Why now?"

Shortly after the election, during a time when gun control was near the top of the agenda. I am insinuating nothing, just thought it was quite a coincidence.

The "Fundraising Relief" website went up Before the event happened, three days before. That is difficult to explain. Note the date of the input, Dec. 11. One has to wonder how they knew it was going to happen. What's so odd about that? The Sandy Hook shooting took place three days later, on December 14, 2012.

What's the surprise?

I am slightly amused at all the concern about whether Brian Kelly will stay at Notre Dame, of course he won't, I don't know what you expected of him. When you hired him you hired a professional "career climber" and that is what you got. He has loyalty to one thing, himself.

He walked out on Cincinnati and if the occasion arises, he will walk out on Notre Dame. He is only concerned about one thing, his career.

He is not unlike many in the "coaches" profession. I now class them with politicians and evangelists and a few other "dedicated" professionals.

I don't know what they expected at Notre Dame, they got what they payed for ......................

"Wakeing up is hard to do" ................ because

The makers of Ambien and other sleeping medications must lower their recommended dosages for women, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday.

The concern is that after taking the pills at night, folks may continue feeling drowsy in the morning, making them a danger on that morning commute and in other activities that require alertness.

The FDA has received 700 reports of "impaired ability and/or road traffic accidents," which are believed to be the effects of zolpidem, the active ingredient in these sleeping pills.

The FDA's warning specifically addresses women, who are most at risk, and says recommended dosages should be cut from 10 mg to 5 mg in immediate-release pills, and from 12.5 mg to 6.25 mg in extended-release pills.

In its safety announcement, the FDA reminded all doctors and patients: "To decrease the potential risk of impairment with all insomnia drugs, health care professionals should prescribe, and patients should take, the lowest dose capable of treating the patient's insomnia."

Blowing more smoke

Our ever so helpful government has decided that your wood burning stove is now a danger to the world. In another attempt to outlaw the off grid lifestyle, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the same agency that was recently caught using drones to spy on Americans, is now going after home owners who use Wood Burning Stoves to heat their homes.

Shortly after the re-election of President Obama, the agency announced new radical environmental regulations that threaten to effect people who live off the grid. The EPA’s new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.

This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called burn wise to try to sway public opinion.

Don't do as I do .... do as I say..

Despite launching a gun control agenda that threatens to disarm the American people, President Obama has signed a bill that would afford him armed Secret Service protection for life.

“The legislation, crafted by Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, rolls back a mid-1990s law that imposed a 10-year limit on Secret Service protection for former presidents. Bush would have been the first former commander in chief affected,” reports Yahoo News.

The new bill, which will cost American taxpayers millions of dollars, is a re-instatement of a 1965 law which will see presidents protected for life as well as their children up to age 16.

The irony of Obama seeking to surround himself with armed men for the rest of his life while simultaneously working to disarm the American people via a gun control agenda that is likely to be enforced via executive decree represents the height of hypocrisy.

Echoes of George W ...............

Browsing through some old manuscripts I came across this .............

State of the Union Address
George Washington
January 8, 1790

Among the many interesting objects which will engage your attention that of
providing for the common defense will merit particular regard. To be
prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.

A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a
uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest
require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them
independent of others for essential, particularly military, supplies.

Two more thoughts

When you have ONE watch, you always know what time it is,
when you have TWO, you are never sure.

The word dictionary is, in fact, in the dictionary.
If you didn't know what the word meant,
you wouldn't know where to look it up.
And, if you new,
You wouldn't have to look it up

It's the Law.....................

Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to go to the bathroom.

Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible place in the universe.

Law of Probability - The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal - and someone always answers.

Variation Law - If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now (works every time).

Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.

Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know INCREASES dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, IT WILL!!!

The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

Wilson's Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy - As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

Doctors' Law - If you don't feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better.. But don't make an appointment, and you'll stay sick.

Remember also, that Murphy's Law was NOT written by Murphy, but by a man with the same name.

Never have to buy this again ...............

Another thing occurred to me today, about getting old, and continuing to live, I jut showered, shaved, and put on my Aqua Velva after shave, I am going to need to buy another bottle of after shave. I remember a long time ago when I bought that big bottle, "I won't be buying another bottle of this, it should last" but I am going to have get another one.

Coffee filters, when you buy them, there are so many of them, that's another "probably never have to buy them again" moment. The older I get, the more of those moments I have gone through. The good news, I keep on going, and having them.

Table salt is another one, should last a long time, but I've bought salt a couple of times since. Now I do have enough to last. We are cutting way down on salt and sugar and white bread. Lost 20 pounds, "stand up" dizziness has decreased and health improved, just thought I would mention that.

We have a lot of different "moments" in our lives, moments to forget, and hopefully, many more to remember. My first moment to remember, goes way back, Mom got me a little Kodak camera. I took a picture of laundry hanging out on the line in our backyard, 319 South Brown  Street in Dayton, Ohio. We still have the picture. I do have a memory of sitting on a lap, in front of a gas fireplace, in an upstairs bedroom, same house. I was told that "Goldie" occasionally watched me. I was just a baby then, but I do remember the moment.

I imagine we have all had moments, I'm glad I have stayed around long enough to make my "last time" ones not come true.

The FLU in Boston

(CBS News) The nationwide flu outbreak has taken a dangerous turn in Boston. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has just declared a state of emergency in his city.

In recent weeks, 18 people across Massachusetts have died because of the flu.

At Massachusetts General, the hospital is restricting the number of visitors to some areas of the hospital, such as the OB-GYN floors to protect some of the hospital's most vulnerable patients, and asking hospital staff to wear masks throughout the day.

In the U.S., 41 states are currently seeing intense flu outbreaks, almost five weeks earlier than usual this year.

The harsh flu season has hit the Boston especially hard. The city has already seen some 700 cases of the flu since October 1, and four flu-related deaths. This, compared with only 70 cases at this time last year.

Dr. Barbara Ferrer, executive director of the Boston Public Health Commission, said, "In the last two weeks alone, we've doubled our number, so if we continue at this rate to see new cases, we'll have an explosion of flu in the city of Boston."

Dr. Paul Biddinger, emergency medical director at Massachusetts General Hospital, said, "It's very important to get the word out that the entire health care system is under strain."

The Bridge Builder

I have posted this is the past, but it seems like something that should be considered as we start this new year. I first heard this recited in 1943, in the chapel of the Great Lakes Navy Training Center in Chicago. My brother was enrolled in a V-12 program there, and we went up for a weekend visit. The Chaplain used it in his sermon. Also that Sunday, we had listened to a banjo player, Eddie Peabody, for many years on the radio, and he was also stationed there and played during the service. Have never forgotten the weekend or the poem. Makes one wonder, what are we, today, building for our children, grand children, and great grandchildren?

An old man, going a lone highway,
Came, at the evening, cold and gray,
To a chasm, vast, and deep, and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.

The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream had no fear for him;
But he turned, when safe on the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.

"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim, near,
"You are wasting strength with building here;
Your journey will end with the ending day;
You never again will pass this way;
You've crossed the chasm, deep and wide-
Why build you this bridge at the evening tide?"

The builder lifted his old gray head:
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,
"There followeth after me today,
A youth, whose feet must pass this way.

This chasm, that has been naught to me,
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building this bridge for him."

WHY?

WHY:
Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left?

BECAUSE:
When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich.
Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right!
And that's where women's buttons have remained since.

Alabama all the way

I just got an email from a friend asking my opinion of tonight's Championship Game. I don't know how many people around the world are even concerned, but to answer his request I will give my opinion.

First, I have always been a Notre Dame fan, UNTIL, they haired their unprincipled new coach of a few years. He's the one who WALKED OUT on his team at Cincinnati right before their bowl appearance. This recent flurry of bowl games had many "assistant coaches" running the show, as the head coach left for another job. May do a count, but many coaches left their teams. I forget which game, but I admired the coach who insisted he stay on coaching till the end of the bowl game. Hats off to him.

Secondly, I personally don't think ND was number one in the country, anyway. I was never impressed with them in the games I saw. One game they stole. I am also somewhat under the impression that TV has a hand in determining the BIG games. ND and Alabama is a great draw. I predicted them when the season was half over. Not by the quality of any teams or coaches, but the game that might bring in the most advertising revenue.

The experts on TV, and there are sooooooo many of them on are predicting a close game. If it is close, through the half, and the third quarter, then we will all know it is rigged for TV. "Keep all those viewers glued to their sets, at least till the fourth quarter, then, you guys go ahead and play." That is just my aged opinion.

So, one of two scenarios. I think Alabama is a much better team and may, if allowed, run away with the game. If the "financial" pressure is applied, a close game till the half, and the game will be played in the second half.

This is just one old opinion .................

Al was certainly right ............

Annual Cost to Taxpayers for Obama Family is $1.4 Billion

I found this post at Godfather Politics, and I have done some research and find that it is basically all verified. I have posted similar thoughts on my own, but this is more updated. We all know it is happening, close our eyes, and let the world go by. WHY is this? We are giving him more power all the time. WHY is this? One of the greatest events in the world, is spending someone else's money. I was in the Navy, I abused it. In business, if a government sale or job, jack the price up. It has now escalated to new, undreamed heights. This is a blog I have reproduced here.

How would you like to live a life of luxury without spending a dime out of your own pocket?  You can fly anywhere in the world on a private jet, have staff waiting on you hand and foot and even have your mother-in-law live with you for free.

This past weekend, I did a piece on Obama’s recent Hawaii vacation costing US taxpayers over $7 million.  I thought and still do believe, that this is outrageous.  They used Air Force One for their PRIVATE vacation at a cost of $180,000 per hour and it’s an 18 hour round trip.  Barack Obama made the trip twice, so just the cost of two round trips on Air Force One rang up to a grand total of $6.48 million.

However, if the cost of the one family vacation upsets you like it did me, wait till you see the grand total cost to taxpayers for a whole year of supporting the First Family in White House.

Robert Keith Gray just wrote Presidential Perks Gone Royal: Your Taxes Are Being Used For Obama’s Re-election.  According to the description of the book found on Amazon.com, Gray reveals how the cost of maintaining the First Family has gone completely out of control costing taxpayers $1.4 billion per year:
“From the sublime to the ridiculous to the truly obscene, the various perks and privileges bestowed on our Chief Executive, our self-proclaimed man of the people, include the extravagant foolishness of having twenty-six cabin crewmembers on Air Force One, along with FIVE (5) chefs! In the White House theatre, two projectionists sleep in in order to remain on duty at all times, should a First Family member or guest fancy a film.

A dog walker is also always on hand. One was reported to be paid $102,000 a year to walk and pick up after the first-family’s canine. On at least one airline trip in the presidential fleet, the only passengers aboard were the First Canine and his handler. In 2009, the military payroll at Camp David was $8,000,000. And these men and women were not there as replacements for the Secret Service to protect the President, but rather to serve the First Family and its guests.”

“On the political front, we learn that in the first months of his presidency President Obama appointed 43 high-priced czars, a number far greater than any previous president, and not one of these professionals voted to office by taxpayers or subject to the approval of any other governmental body or official. During his current term he has also appointed 469 professionals who could be called, assistant presidents. 226 of them are paid over $100,000 a year and 77 of them paid as much as $172,000 a year.”

“The British spent $57.8 Million on its royal family last year. We Americans spent nearly $2 Billion on housing, transporting, entertaining, staffing, our First Family and paying a hefty portion of the president’s campaign expenses.”

Now consider the fact that some Democrats in Congress want to give Obama an unlimited debt ceiling and the power to bypass Congress when it comes to spending.  Who in their right mind would trust anyone who is that out of control with other people’s money, enough to give them a limitless blank check?

As a natural born US citizen and taxpayer, I find Obama’s careless spending and luxurious lifestyle to be offensive and insensitive to the American people.  I agree with Gray that there is no way Obama can relate to the average American.  He had his schooling handed to him by others.  He had his jobs handed to him by others.  Now he is living the life of the top 1% because it is being handed to him by others.  I’m one of the others and I don’t want to hand him anything else. I especially don’t want to give him the power of an unlimited debt ceiling and spending. But the foolish people that have free Obama phones put him back in the White House so that he can continue to live a lifestyle that they could never even fathom.

For the Golfers

Ed and Nancy met while on a singles cruise.

When they discovered they lived in the same city only a few miles apart Ed was ecstatic. He immediately started asking her out when they got home.

Within a couple of weeks, Ed had taken Nancy to dance clubs, restaurants, concerts, movies, and museums. Ed became convinced that Nancy was indeed his soul mate and true love. Every date seemed better than the last.

On the one-month anniversary of their first dinner on the cruise ship, Ed took Nancy to a fine restaurant. While having cocktails and waiting for their salad, Ed said, "I guess you can tell I'm very much in love with you. I'd like a little serious talk before our relationship continues to the next stage.  So, before I get a box out of my jacket and ask you a life changing question, it's only fair to warn you, I'm a total golf nut. I play golf, I read about golf, I watch golf on TV. In short, I eat, sleep, and  breathe golf. If that's going to be a problem for us, you'd better say so now!"

Nancy took a deep breath and responded, "Ed, that certainly won't be a problem. I love you as you are and I love golf too; but, since we're being totally honest with each other, you need to know that for the last five years I've been a hooker."

Ed said, "I bet it's because you're not keeping your wrists straight when you hit the ball."

GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH!

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone brother
2. He liked Gospel
3. He didn't get a fair trial

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into His Father's business
2. He lived at home until he was 33
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with His hands
2. He had wine with His meals
3. He used olive oil

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut His hair
2. He walked around barefoot all the time
3. He started a new religion

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:
1. He was at peace with nature
2. He ate a lot of fish
3. He talked about the Great Spirit

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He never got married..
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all -3 proofs that Jesus was a WOMAN:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do.

Quake measuring 7.5 strikes off Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska | Sat Jan 5, 2013 6:38am EST

(Reuters) - An earthquake of 7.5 magnitude struck in the Pacific Ocean off southeastern Alaska on Saturday.

The quake occurred about 60 miles southwest of Port Alexander at a depth of about 6 miles at 0858 GMT, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, which downgraded the magnitude from an initial 7.7.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas of southeast Alaska and Canada's British Columbia, but this was later cancelled.

So far there had been no reports of damage from the earthquake, tsunami warning center scientist Bill Knight said.

Officials in Sitka, southern Alaska, were urging evacuations in low-lying areas, local radio station KCAW reported.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck British Columbia on October 27. A tsunami warning was issued but no damage ensued.

It’s Official! Obama Called ’1st Muslim Prez’

Thursday, January 3, 2013

It started when Bill Clinton was famously called “the first black president” – not because of his skin color, of course, but because he supposedly exemplified so many “black” qualities and attitudes.

Since Barack Obama has been president, he’s been showered with many such accolades – most recently when Newsweek crowned him “The First Gay President” for his election-year abandonment of his opposition to same-sex marriage. But the elite media, to commemorate other Obama affinities and policy positions, have also dubbed him “The First Hispanic President,” “The First Asian-American President,” “The First Jewish President” – and even “The First Female President.”

But there’s one “first” label conspicuously absent from all the media homage paid to the 44th president – perhaps, ironically, because there’s more truth to it than the press is comfortable admitting – and that’s the title Whistleblower confers on Barack Obama in its blockbuster January 2013 issue: “THE FIRST MUSLIM PRESIDENT.”

Old Man River is drying up ............

(Reuters) - The drought-drained Mississippi River will rise slightly later this week between St. Louis and Cairo, Illinois, but later continue its decline toward historic lows, according to a National Weather Service forecast.

Low water, due to the worst U.S. drought since 1956, has already impeded the flow of billions of dollars worth of grain, coal, fertilizer and other commodities between the central United States and shipping terminals at the Gulf of Mexico.

A further drop in river levels could halt commercial shipping traffic entirely by this weekend, the American Waterways Operators and the Waterways Council Inc said in a statement on Wednesday.

Last week, the council said the river along the Cairo-St. Louis stretch would be too low for navigation by January 7 but on Wednesday it said shipping may come to a halt between January 5 and 15.

A shutdown could affect more than 8,000 jobs, cost $54 million in wages and benefits, and halt the movement of 7.2 million tons of commodities valued at $2.8 billion, the two industry groups said.

Warning revisited ............

I was asked to reprint this. This was a Facebook posting. It is a valid warning to everyone, be careful!

Please beware that my daughter was coming out of the West York Walmart tonight and as she was walking to her car she noticed that a couple of guys were watching her, she got into her car and locked her doors. As she was leaving she saw what appeared to be a 100.00 dollar bill on her windshield, she was smart enough not to get out of her car at the time because she remember a email that I sent her not that long ago about people putting something on the windshield and when the person gets out to retrieve it they are car jacked.

Here's a pic of the fake money....be careful.

Also, some have been clever and taped something to the back window of a car. The natural instinct is to get out and walk to the rear of the car to see what it is. Is it an ad, or is the trap baited?

You decide ......... CHECK OUT THIS LINK

Well, they did it again ...............

I vowed years ago to not watch the Rose Bowl Parade again. It seems like that EVERY YEAR, regardless of which Big Ten school is playing, well, today. We see a Wisconsin cheerleader float, some cheerleaders, the start of the Wisconsin Band .................. and then ................ COMMERCIALS .... next thing we see, the Salvation Army Band.

They do it every year. Years ago, the Ohio State Band, which is one of the best in the land, same thing, only as the OSU contingent approached, commercials, nothing.

It must be a personal thing, Don't Televise any of the Opponents bands, cheerleaders, nothing.

I wonder why they do that?

Oh, that, up in the right corner, the Wisconsin Band in the Rose Bowl Parade, 2013.
