Mr. Roberts

I took this in the late 50's, at The Primm. Joe Francis sitting box, Jerry "Hoot" Havens on this end and Jerry Christianson (sp?) from Las Vegas on the far end. Joe became one of Bill Harrahs top men. He was from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Hoot was a good friend.

Mr. Roberts, Casino Manager at the Primmadonna in Reno, hired me many years ago, and was instrumental in my promotions there that enabled me to wear a "suit" and sin on the "box."  To this day, when I hear the word "gentleman," one names surfaces, Alan Roberts.

I met his wife on one occasions, he introduced her as, "Mrs. Roberts," have never forgotten that, no first names, total respect, " ......... and, this is, Mrs. Roberts."

A gentleman, a diplomat, a businessman, to me, he was the epitome of what a casino manager should be.

My Mom and Dad were always a little suspicious of me being a "dealer" in Reno. Many in Ohio thought I sold cars. They came to Reno for a visit, and an introduction to Mr. Roberts and a brief conversation with him, and my Dad, the Doctor, was impressed. He had an entirely different opinion of casinos and the people worked in them.

Admittedly I know little to nothing about his background. He had risen to the top of a vicious profession, owned ten percent of a nice casino. I know that did not come about by chance. I don't know of his start or his rise, I only know of him as my boss, the casino manager. I imagine that his life story would be of great interest.

If he had chosen politics as his field, he would have been the Secretary of State, or an Ambassador to some large foreign country, or even, Vice President or more.

I could not find a photo of him, I've looked, found Ernie Primm, but not Mr. Roberts.

Some info on The Primm .......
