But what could you do?

This is worth reading, only in this country and I live in Ohio. Are we smart, or what?

COLUMBUS -- Lawrence Reynolds overdosed on pills March 7.


The Ohio State Penitentiary inmate was rushed to a Youngstown hospital. After nine days and thousands of dollars' worth of care, he was taken to Lucasville -- and executed.

You paid for the whole process, from his 24-hour surveillance when he took the pills to his hospital stay to his lethal injection.

While the circumstances were unique, the fact Reynolds received extensive health care behind bars was not.

Although universal health care for Americans is a hot topic for debate, it's a given for the 50,783 inmates in Ohio's state prison system.

Ohioans spent $212.5 million on inmate health care last year, according to data from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. The state spent an additional $68.9 million for inmate mental health and $9.3 million for drug and alcohol recovery.

That amounts to $5,726 per inmate in 2009, up 37 percent from $4,175 per inmate in 2001.

Put another way, last year's bill equaled $25 in out-of-pocket costs from every Ohioan.

Without reforms, this financial obligation will keep growing as medical costs continue to rise and more felons are sentenced to longer terms without parole.

State officials are considering some solutions, including parole arrangements that would shift costs to the federal Medicare program. And nobody yet knows how the proposed changes in federal health care could affect state prison costs.

Under 24 hour surveillance and he still managed to get the pills and take them. Why don't we have clever people like him in government? If nothing else he could have had his own TV show and done Street Magic, he must have been good at it. I wonder if ANYONE at ANYTIME thought, "Well, he is going to be execucted in a few days, he apparently wants to die, so, well .......???"

Chuck's Wife and the Game Warden

One morning my neighbor, Chuck, returned home after several hours of fishing on Buckeye Lake and decided to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decided to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, stretches out and reads her book.

Along came the Buckeye Lake Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside her and says, 'Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?'

'Reading a book,' she replies, ( thinking , 'Isn't that obvious ? ')

'You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her.

'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading'

'Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up.'

'For reading a book,' she replies ,

'You're in a Restricted Fishing Area,' he informs her again,

'I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading'

'If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault ,' says the woman.

Soon thereafter, another Irish man entered the confessional. 'Father, it has been two months since my last confession. I've had sex with Fanny Green twice a week for the past two months.'

This time, the priest questioned, 'Who is this Fanny Green?'

'A new woman in the neighbourhood,' the sinner replied.

The priest and the altar boy gasped as the woman in the green dress and the matching green shoes sat with her legs spread slightly apart, but just enough to realize she wasn't wearing any underwear.

The priest turned to the altar boy and whispered, 'Is that Fanny Green?'

The bug-eyed altar boy couldn't believe his ears but managed to calmly reply, 'No Father, I think it's just a reflection from her shoes'.

Casino on wheels

With the high-speed rail controversy still raging in Ohio, the Pen Corporation, which is putting the casinos in the four locations in Ohio is planning to ask the State Legislature to change their licensing options to include a Casino Train which would run from Cleveland, to Toledo, to Dayton and on to Cincinnati.

Fountaine Pen, CEO of the corpoation stated, "With the train serving all these locations we will have no construction costs, and all those mamby-pambys who oppose casinos, and our moving in to their areas will have nothing to complain about. Looks like a win-win situation to me. I hope the legislature is "all-aboard" on this one, no pun intended."

Pen said he envisioned a train with a locomotive and 12 cars. four used as casinos, one entertainment car, one lounge car, one office car, and four used as motel units with sleeping accommodations. Phil Rassen of the Columbus Dispatch pointed out to Pen that was only 11 cars.

Pen's answer to that, "Sorry, in the casino business we are used to "short counting" everything. Actually, we will need one car to count and store the money."

The Clinic

One of the larger clinics in the country has jumped on board the high speed travel train phenomena.

They have indicated that would consider their own train, equipped with full diagnostic equipment and a complete staff.

They have contacted World Wide Travel Agency, and would like for them to arrange a two-week trip, traveling around the country, all the while receiving a complete physical and medical attention.

Doctor Ahmed Shaei, M.D., director of the prestigious clinic stated, "Eef da  patient ceant coome to us, whe cn go to heem."

High Speed Rail Travel in Ohio

The Department of Transportation in Ohio, ODOT, and the state have been looking in to the feasibility of high speed transportation between Cleveland in the Northern part of the state and Cincinnati in the Southern part, and numerous stops in between. There have been many ridership and cost studies done.


Republican opponents to the Democratic Governor’s who wish to see it come about have stated that the studies have exaggerated the ridership on the trains, and the numbers they have come up with are not accurate and are much to high to be realistic.

Not to be outdone, a source close to the Governor disclosed today that the Governor has a proposal that is unique and may open the doors to high speed railway travel all over the country.

He is proposing that each train will, by law, have to designate three cars that will be used as High Speed Medical Emergency Rooms. Further a portion of each railway station will afford the same service and have staff’s capable of tending to a minimum of 12 extended care patients. One car on each train will have an X-ray department and a fully equipped medical lab. Future plans call for specialized equipment to be placed on certain trains as needed.

The Governor stated, “If these trains were in service now they could have be routed to New Orleans, and to flood areas and other disaster areas around the country, and since they are high speed they could get there really quick. Just think an ill person could board in Cleveland, see a Doctor, have blood work done, an X-ray, and be well when he arrived in Cincinnati.”

He was quizzed by a reporter from the Columbus Dispatch who asked, “What if that passenger wanted to go to Dayton.”

“Ah, we have a few things to work out,” he stuttered.

The source also indicated that the Governor had discussed this plan with President Obama, and that he was very optimist about the success of the plan and that it could be worked in to his healthcare package.

House Speaker Pelosi indicated that if this comes about she would like to have her own private coach on the train.

November 2010

I don't believe that threats are the way to go, and the YES votes can't understand why it is happening. This points out a couple of things.

They are blind to the desires of their constituents. They have voted contrary to what the majority wanted and they can't understand why people are upset about it. Maybe I am just clairvoyant, I can understand why. And, if people keep open minds, next election, those who voted and are up for reelection will understand why.

Montebello High School in California

I guess they already finished their English homework!!!

You will not see this heart-stopping photo on the front page of the NY Times, nor on the lead story of the major news networks.

The protestors at Montebello High School took the American flag off the school's flag pole and hung it upside down while putting up the Mexican flag over it.

I predict this stunt will be the nail in the coffin of any guest-worker/amnesty plan on the table in Washington. The image of the American flag subsumed to another and turned upside down on American soil is already spreading on Internet forums and via e-mail.

Pass this blog along to every American citizen in your address books and to every representative in the state and federal government. If you choose to remain uninvolved, do not be amazed when you no longer have a nation to call your own nor anything you have worked for left since it will be 'redistributed' to the activists while you are so peacefully staying out of the 'fray'. Check history, it is full of nations/empires that disappeared when its citizens no longer held their core beliefs and values. One person CAN make a difference.

What does the head chef do at Domino's

Does anyone, besides me, wonder what the Head Chef did at Domino's for almost 30 years. It had to be a great job. The apparently used the same crust and sauce for all those years, no changes, until recently, so what did he do?

I find it strange that in all those years, they never asked anyone how they liked their pizza. Maybe they had a lot of sauce and dough to use up, and didn't want to know.

It has to be a great job though, Head Chef in a pizza joint. I just don't know what the guy does after the first day.

I wonder if Heinz has a Head Chef?

My Dad would be very sad, today ..........

If my Dad was alive today, he would be very sad, in his latter days he was very concerned about Socialized Medicine. He predicted this day would come, way back in the fifties.

He practiced medicine much of his life. He was in General Practice for many years, did house calls, made his "rounds" at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and had office calls in the afternoon and evening.

We had our home and office together, so I was brought up with medicine and a "good" doctors life. I spent a lot of time riding around in the car with him as he made house calls. I saw all sorts of injuries brought to his office. People didn't run to the hospital in those days, they went to see "doc." who probably brought them into the world as well as take care of all their aches and pains.

His General Practice was getting to be too much for him, so in 1943 he went in to OBGYN, and moved his office to an office building in downtown Dayton. We left the old, beautiful home and office, and moved to another section of Dayton.

I will never forget his last night as a GP, so many people, friends, relatives and patients came to pay their respects, the waiting room and our living room were both full. There was one doorway between our living room and his office, and I will never forget, his last patient was gone, his nurse had left, he "locked up," and came in to the living room.

He was exhausted physically and mentally, from all of the emotion of leaving something he had devoted his life to. He was not just their doctor, he was their minister, their friend, their confidant and their Doctor. He was "Doc" to most of them.

He sat in "his" chair, a gray tilt-back recliner, and he cried. I had never seen him cry. I remember I just quietly went to bed. Would your Doctor, today, cry, because he was no longer going to care for you? I doubt if he or she even know your name, till it comes up on the computer.

In the late fifties, he was President of the county Medical Society, and in his last speech, he foresaw, and predicted the inevitable happening, Socialized Medicine, and we saw the door opening to it on Sunday, March 22, 2010.

He predicted a lowering of the Quality of Medical care, he predicted understaffed hospitals, insurance abuse, and all of the problems that we are seeing now, and will see in the future. A minor thing, but I doubt a patient ever saw him wearing anything but a suit and tie. I was visited in my room by a Doctor, wearing blue jeans and a golf shirt. What does your doctor wear?

He would be very sad today, Socialism has reared its ugly head.

Wait till November

The Conservative Battle Cry now is "Wait till November."

I got my first Email the day after the Bill passage from the Republican Party, "Send Money." Nothing about Candidates, course of action, preparing for, grooming someone, NO, just "Send Money."

I have to wonder WHAT the party is going to do between now and then to make all these changes. I think it is going to take much more than money to bring them about.

I see here in Ohio, some union support has been withdrawn from a YES voter, More of this has to happen, voices have to be heard loud and clear, support has to be withdrawn, and a clear message has to be sent to those who voted for Obama Care or the "Hussein Hospitalization Plan."

I hope that all who are concerned get off of their "Academic Asses" and get something done. November 2010 will not be a Conservative Victory unless action is taken now, and continues on, until that November date.

Socialism has knocked on our door, the door has been opened, and one foot is in. Remember, that's all a good salesman needs, "one foot in the door."

Just sitting back and chanting "Wait till November" is not going to bring any changes. We're dealing with "Illinois Politics" now, they don't always play fair.

Maxine sums up the health care bill

Let me get this straight.

We're going to be gifted with a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president who also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.

What the hell could possibly go wrong?

STOP THE VOTE - wait till november of 2010

Are we a great people or not.

The Battle Cry yesterday was STOP THE VOTE.

Well, they lost, so today the Battle Cry is ..... WAIT TILL NOVEMBER OF 2010.  I guess they can use that one each year, just change the date.

I am not that optimistic that come November, the great voice of America will speak up and there will be a whole, broad, new, change in Washington. Why will that happen?

The same voters who put the current administration in power will be voting then. And now, they are fighting Chicago Politics. I don't know how many wanted or did not want the vote to come out the way it did. I think it was Chicago Politics at its best. The very thing that makes our Democracy great, is the thing that is leading us down the road to Socialism. Did Obama and Pelosi really have all the Democratic members spellbound?

Health and Healthcare are important to all of us. How could this issue be so divided. All Democrats were for it, and all Republicans were against it. That alone opens us to a lot of thought. Why was there no middle ground, it was an important issue. Hard to believe that not one Democrat voted against and not one Republican voted for the issue.

Who REALLY wanted it passed, and WHY? Could it have just been a "power struggle," or an ego builder, or a "will imposer?" Did anyone really win?

Maybe waiting till November 2010 gives hope to some, but unless voters minds are changed, there will be no change in November. THEY won yesterday and that same "force" that led to that victory, is already starting to work ............ looking ahead  ................ to November.

Optimistically there is always a "next time."

USA 1776 -2010

I imagine there is sadness in heaven tonight, the founding fathers of this country, Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, are all sitting around, wondering, "Where did we go wrong?"

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

And now, 2010, all of the freedoms that they held on to so dearly, are being set aside, and the free America, is gradually slipping into a Socialist State.

They worked so hard for a Democracy, for a free people, Lincoln abolished slavery in this country so that all men are free and equal and we have been shown that a few people who are strong enough, can impose their will on our entire country. One giant chunk of freedom has been removed from our countries solid foundation. What must they be thinking in Heaven tonight. The rain that will fall from Heaven in the next few days will be tears, shed by our forefathers. All that they worked and fought to build is being eroded away.

Here lies the United States of America  1776 - 2010.

One Light Bulb at a Time

An email I recently received is worth thinking about.

A physics teacher in high school, once  told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad  tracks wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them  would. With that thought in mind, read the following,  obviously written by a good American .. Good idea .. .  one light bulb at a time . . . .

Check this out . I  can verify this because I was in Lowes the other day for some  reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose  attachments . They were all made in China . The next day I was  in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the  hose attachments there. They were made in USA . Start  looking .. In our current economic situation, every  little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their  job .

So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on  the right track . Let's get behind her! My grandson  likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked  made in Mexico now.. I do not buy it any  more.

 My  favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico ... now I have  switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything  .. This past weekend I was at Kroger. I  needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets . I was in the  light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally  buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value . " I picked up  both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the  same except for the price .. The GE bulbs were more money than  the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday  Value brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a  company in Cleveland , Ohio . So throw out the myth  that you cannot find products you use every day that are  made right here ..

So on to another aisle - Bounce  Dryer Sheets . .. . yep, you guessed it, bounce cost more  money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand was  less money and MADE IN THE USA ! I did laundry yesterday and  the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have  been using for years and at almost half the  price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the  labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can  find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your  own or your neighbors! If you accept the challenge,  pass this blog on to others in your address book so we can all  start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying  from overseas companies! (We should have awakened a  decade ago .. . .. . . . ) Let's get with the program .  . . .. help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create  more jobs here in the
U . S . A .

Is America Up For Sale

I think that every American should be deeply concerned about the actions taken by Obama and Pelosi and others recently. The energy that they have expended, the promises they have made, and possibly even the subtle threats in an attempt to cram their wishes down the throats of the American people.

If they are able to accomplish this, they will be able to accomplish anything on their agenda, whether it is the will of the people or not.

Historically this has happened in other countries, in other times, and I am concerned that this decision could be the ruination of our country. Half of the country is opposed, the other half, possibly the half that voted them in, in the first place, now has their eyes closed to the truth. "Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is made up."

The sun is gradually setting on this country, and eventually the darkness will keep any light out.

The selling of America, the country is on the auction block, there are no bidders, they know that eventually someone can just walk in and take over.

'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY TO ALL

At 8 on Wednesday morning, I put the brisket on low, and let it simmer all day. I am doing this one in our big crock pot.

I make a broth with beef boullion and water, some liquid smoke, season salt, garlic, the seasoning that comes with the brisket, a bay leaf and a few other seasonings I have on hand.

At six I will take it out and wrap it in foil and put the red potatoes, carrots, onions, cabbage and parsnips in that broth and boil them till tender.

For the sauce, I take sour cream and add horseradish to taste.

Will be a meal fit for a king ................ I know it's good, I tried it out on Monday ........ I needed a bigger corned beef to have for sandwiches, picked up a GREAT loaf of rye bread.......

I have renewed HOPE ....

With a little luck I can become a TV star, I am more sure of that than ever. Just look at Christie Alley. I really never felt she had a lot of talent when she was thin, I don't know what she had to do to get on Cheers, I never thought she added much.

You have to admire her guts, and you will see a lot of them. I have seen the previews of, "The hit show of the season," and if it lasts more than two episodes I will be surprised.

If you're not talented thin, what makes anyone think they have talent when they are fat, and she is fat, no nice way to say it.

But then we have a show where very fat people lose weight, loggers take logs our of a swamp, truckers drive over ice, some guy has made a fortune and a name for himself, doing dirty jobs, so why not do a show about a fat woman, who used to advertise being thin.

I doubt that she would get a tryout on "America's Got Talent," that would really be a stretch, much like the seams in her clothes.

My Mother always said, "If you can't say something nice ......... etc." but that show I just cannot understant.

Arrogant Approach To Health Care

America's robust discussion of health care reform during the past year has been beneficial in many ways, giving the public greater awareness and insight into this complex issue. Unfortunately, the debate has been held pretty much on one-party terms as Democrats, controlling both houses of Congress and the White House, crafted the only plan allowed on the table, and negotiated behind closed doors. Now, despite the deep reservations of a majority of Americans, congressional leaders plan to ram through their proposal this week - bypassing normal congressional procedures.

It is a distressing prospect. We hope that moderate House Democrats - among them Rep. Steve Driehaus of Cincinnati, who says he "will not bend on the principle of federal funding on abortion" but will be stuck in the middle of an elaborate charade to include that funding anyway - will put a stop to this sham.

Real debate has been sidestepped, while Democrats played a childish game of Catch-22 with health care legislation: Congressional leaders wouldn't allow Republican proposals to be formally considered, then turned around and accused them of not having alternatives. Among themselves, Democrats cut a series of backroom deals that in any other context would be considered criminal payoffs and bribery.

Here's how blatant it's become: Last week, President Obama nominated for a federal appeals court the brother of a wavering Democratic House member from Utah.

This disgusting process, which Democrats brazenly wish to bring to conclusion this week, is being done with little regard for the opinions of a clear majority of Americans who, while they may believe health care reform is necessary, think this particular approach will take our nation down the wrong economic path.

Obama, despite all his fine talk of bipartisanship, has proven he has little regard for the ideas - or the constituencies - of those who are not his political allies. The paltry few GOP proposals that he has indicated he is willing to consider - even here, there are no real commitments - are so token as to be laughable.

Meanwhile, an Associated Press poll last week showed that 68 percent of Americans don't want health care reform passed without Republican support.

Supporters of the Democratic plan can spin it any way they wish, but polls have consistently shown that a majority of Americans oppose their heavy-handed approach to reform. Americans may favor general principles such as universal coverage, but they are distrustful of the way this bill has been crafted and how it will change their relationship with their health care providers.

According to the Quinnipiac Poll, Ohioans oppose the Democrats' reform plan 56 percent to 33 percent, although they agree 53 percent to 44 percent that Congress should keep trying to reform health care.

The legislation has major problems that have not even begun to be discussed in a serious way, and if Democrats have their way will not be debated at all. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, for example, calls the Senate bill "racially discriminatory" because of provisions that "in addition to being unconstitutional, will not improve health care outcomes for minority patients."

And despite denials, the bill has worrisome implications for Medicare. According to an Associated Press news account, much of the reform bill is "financed with Medicare cuts the government's own experts say could be unsustainable."

Democrats are devising an elaborate set of sleight-of-hand tricks to get this bill on Obama's desk this week, including Senate "reconciliation" to avoid a GOP filibuster.

Yes, both parties have employed reconciliation in the past - it has been used by Republicans in 14 of 22 instances since being adopted in 1974 - but its purpose is supposed to be resolving budget issues, not making far-reaching policy decisions that will alter one-sixth of the U.S. economy.

Its blatant abuse is yet further damning evidence of congressional leaders' arrogant, condescending attitude toward the people they ostensibly were elected to serve.

Where have all the Leaders Gone?

The first I remember was FDR, my Dad was not a fan of his, so I heard all the negative, but as young as I was, I knew he was the leader. Of course, during the was, Churchill, Eisenhower, Patton, Admiral Nimitz, McArthur, were all well known leaders.

To me, with the exception of Reagan, there has been no leader that really stood out.

Now our leaders are radio DJ's and radio personalities, TV personalities. Basically, the loudest voices in the Republican Party are all "media personalities." Is it just that they have the audience and that makes them the leaders.

I don't think that McCain was ever a leader figurehead. He had little to no persona, and even though not made too public, I think those that really knew him, and of him, were concerned. I think that is why Sarah Palin became so strong, she had personality, a firm speaking voice and a positive attitude. Just what the Republicans were looking for, a leader.

I admit I am not a fan of Obama. My concern there is that he is nothing more than an image, a figurehead for something we are not even aware of yet. He is frightening to me. He speaks, but they are not his words. I think that is one reason he uses teleprompters everywhere. He even used a teleprompter when talking to some young schoolchildren in their classroom. Someone is writing all his material, and that is scary.

Way too many questions unanswered about him and I don't think he has ever been really forthright with us. He is Charley McCarthy and we have no idea who Edgar is. We will find out when it is too late.

So where is the voice in the darkness? Where is our next leader coming from?

Domino's Pizza

Does anyone wonder wht it took Dominos Pizza so long to realize that their pizza wasn't any good? I have been trying to figure out how many of them I had ordered over the years, and would like a refund for a portion of the money I have spent.

Suddenly, after all these years, they decided to ask people what they thought of their pizza. I wonder what took so long. The amazing thing is that people decided that they didn't like the sauce and the crust. That is about all there is to a pizza, the toppings they had nothing to do with.

As I recall, a few years ago, in 1998, Tom Monoghan, after 36 years, sold Dominos for a BILLION dollars. It started with an investment of $75. Just think how much it would have sold for if the crust and the sauce had been good.

Merlin Olsen, Hall of Fame footballer and TV actor, dies at 69

Hall of Fame defensive lineman Merlin Olsen, who parlayed a successful football career with the L.A. Rams into a long-running television career, has died after a battling mesothelioma, a cancer of the lung lining, according to The New York Times.

As an actor, Olsen is best known for playing Jonathan Garvey on Little House on the Prairie for more than 50 episodes, as well as for starring as Father Murphy on the 1981-83 series of the same name.

He was voted NFC defensive lineman of the year in 1973 and the NFL MVP in 1974, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982.

I see those legal firm commercials on TV concerning Mesothelioma, and this case, Merlin had lawsuits against the studios where he had done his filming, because they exposed him to asbestos. Perhaps the Little House on the Prairie had asbestos for their insulation. Would be interesting to know if any other cast members have the same ailement.

I have always had a great deal of respect for him. He was an excellent football player, and I assume was always looked up to by his team mates. He was always a gentleman on TV as a broadcaster.

A sneak preview of next season's Dancing with the Stars

As you probably know, Dancing With The Stars keeps the next participants a very close secret. I have a friend in New York who works in TV and is often in on the ground floor of things.

He sent me this photograph, taken a few days ago, of a practice session of a couple who will appear on the show, next season.

A very unlikely pair, but somehow have resolved any differences they might have.

Some Thoughts on Socialism

I have been wondering how Socialism has so quietly entered our nation. There is not one person in the last fifty years who has been at the helm of the Socialist Ship. It has somehow just slowly entered port, anchored, and is gradually sending their crew ashore. I remember one comment that Norman Thomas made when he quite running for President as a Socialist. "The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." We are getting close.

Why do the socialists, instead of using economic methods to solve an economic question, organize themselves into a political party? To answer this question, we must first see what the State is and what relation it holds to the economic conditions. Gabriel Deville defines the State thus: "The State is the public power of coercion created and maintained in human societies by their division into classes, a power which, being clothed with force, makes laws and levies taxes." As long as the economically dominant class retain full possession of this public power of coercion they are able to use it as a weapon to defeat every attempt to alter the economic structure of society. Hence every attempt to destroy economic privilege and establish Industrial Democracy inevitably takes the form of a political class struggle between the economically privileged class and the economically exploited class.

Being old, I am not concerned about myself, but I look down at little Brooklyn Jean Dilts, who is in her early months of life, and I wonder what is ahead for her. Will she ever really know true freedom, or will she be dependent upon the government to arrange her life for her.

Is it possible that in my lifetime I will see an end to life as we once knew it. Life in the 30's, the war of the 40's, the turmoil of the 50's and 60's, and into the end of the century. Is it possible that all of the technical advances, and there have been many, will eventually make it easier for a new way of life to come about?

If you wanted to communicate with someone in the 30's, you perhaps had to somehow, see them personally, ride a bike, a horse, walk. Now you can communicate with the world, and never move an inch. Does all of this technology leave us without the ability  to reason and think. If a question arises, Google it. I remember walking to the library at times to answer questions.

I hope there is an awakening before it is too late.


The Bridge Builder

I was asked to post this again ... one of my favorites. I first heard it back in the mid 40's, probably 1944 at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago. We were visiting my Brother Dean Shannon Dooley, who had graduated from DePauw University, and was going through a V-12 Program at Great Lakes. This poem was a part of the Sermon delivered by the Chaplain that Sunday morning. We also heard Eddy Peabody, the Banjo King play at the service.

THE BRIDGE BUILDER


An old man, going a lone highway,
Came at the evening cold and gray,
To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim-
That sullen stream had no fears for him;
But he turned, when he reached the other side,

It happened and they did something about it .....

This is the attitude that some of us had when the money was cut and the senior Citizens were left without funding for their meal. We got notice that the seniors were cut on a Friday, their last meal, and Monday I was cooking meals at a friend's diner and the Mayor was stirring up some of the big rollers to chip in on cost. The Seniors never missed a meal. Towns from all over the State contacted the Mayor's office and wanted to know how we were able to do it and two TV stations from Tulsa came and did stories on air.

The seniors now have enough money in their account to carry them for a year or so and they have a woman who works at the Senior Center preparing the food. This money was raided locally since the Feds and then the State decided to stop feeding.

On the 27th, United Way is presenting an award to "Oklahoma Mayor of the Year" to Chouteau's Mayor and I am proud to be attending the dinner/ceremony. Oklahoma is a lot different from many other places I have lived and I think the difference is good.

OKLAHOMA MAY JUST BE THE PLACE TO LIVE!

I received an EMail on this, checked validity on a couple of sites, seems legit ...... GO SOONERS!

Oklahoma law passed, 37 to 9, an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The feds in D.C., along with the ACLU, said it would be a mistake. Hey this is a conservative state, based on Christian values...!
Guess what?.......... Oklahoma did it anyway.

Oklahoma recently passed a law to *incarcerate all illegal immigrants, and ship them back to where they came from. They all scattered. Hope we didn't send any of them to your state. This was against the advice of the Federal Government, and the ACLU – they said it would be a mistake.
Guess what? .......... Oklahoma did it anyway.

Recently we passed a law to include DNA samples from all illegals to the Oklahoma database for criminal investigative purposes. Pelosi said it was unconstitutional.
Guess what? ........ Oklahoma did it anyway.

Several weeks ago, we passed a law declaring Oklahoma as a sovereign state, not under Federal government directives, joining Texas, Montana and Utah as the only states to do so. More states are likely to follow: Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Mississippi, and Florida. Save your confederate money - it appears the South is about to rise up once again.

Oklahoma, a week ago, passed a law confirming that people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm sure that was a set-back for criminals. Liberals didn't like it either, But
Guess what? ........... Oklahoma did it anyway.

Just this month, my state has voted and passed a law that ALL drivers’ license exams will be printed in English, and no other language. We have been called racist for doing this, but the fact is that ALL of our
road signs are in English only. If you want to drive in Oklahoma, you must read and write English. Really simple.

By the way, Obama does not like any of this.

Guess what? .... Who cares?! Oklahoma is doing it anyway** **!!!*

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

THE CONSTITUTION

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq ... Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse or Congress is this --you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians ..... it creates a hostile work environment.

Also, think about this .... if you don't want to recommend this article to anyone for fear of offending someone -- YOU MAY BE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

Finally know what they are called.

We've all seen them, those things standing our in front of stores, long stiff neck and a large base, with holes in the top to put your cugarette butts. I have seen many of them and never really knew they had a name, till today.

I saw one in front of Walmart that gave me the name.

They are called 'FREQUENTLY."

I knew that because there was a label on it.

Empty FREQUENTLY.

Now, we know!

About Heart Attacks

There are other symptoms of a heart attack besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be no pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had an heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards

- phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by
- say "heart attack!"
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins.
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and...
~ do NOT lie down ~

A Cardiologist has stated that, if each person, after reading this blog, refers this site to 10 people, probably one life can be saved!

PS A personal comment and recommendation...

I keep a small used "prescription" plastic bottle on my nightstand. I have two aspirins in it, and for a lid, a piece of foil which I can easily remove.In t he bottle are two aspirins, at the ready.

I always keep a bottle of water by my bed, with a loose cap. I can reach down by the side of the bed, in the dark, and know just where it is.
 
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I had a Heart Attack a few years ago. I just did not feel good for a few days. Finally I was MADE to go to the hospital. They did blood work, EKG's EXray, etc., for SIX hours. They were about ready to send me home when the bloodwork came back.
 
"Oh, you're having a heart attack!"
 
Three days later I was recovering from a Triple Bi-pass.
 
So, symptoms can be misleading. I always envisioned the chest pain, left arm going limp, sweating, all the classic symptoms we see on TV. Doesn't work that way.

My Introduction to L. Ron Hubbard

In answer to some EMails I have received.

I saw L. Ron Hubbard in Reno, Nevada, late fifties, not sure of the exact time. He had given a brief lecture at the top of Harold's Club, called the Seventh Floor. I had read his book on Dianetics, and that fascinated me. It was basic, easy to understand, and I could relate to many comments in the book.

At that time there was a couple in Reno, wife worked in the casino's but her husband was a hypnotist who worked with Physicians in Reno and had an office of his own to help people quit smoking, drinking, and primarily in Nevada, to quit gambling. As I recall, he had gone to Baltimore, Maryland to do some studying on Dianetics, and I think was considered what we called in those days, a Dianetician.

As we were milling around after his lecture, talking, and I think Hubbard ultimately became a part of the group, something was brought up that I am still confused about. Either he made mention of it, or someone in the group, but the subject came up that a lot of Dianetics came from some documents that were discovered after WWII, in Germany, that were the blueprint for Hitler's "Superman." I do recall mention of an Army Major who was in the first occupation force that entered Germany. I always assumed it was Hubbard, but I later learned that he was in the Navy.

The same princciple in Dianetics, that were used to become a "clear," had been used in Germany, to increase the brain power of his troops, to make his "supermen" as near perfect as possible.

As I recall, Hubbard was in the Navy, but somewhere, the occasion arose for him to become associated with the "blueprints" and it was the basis for Dianetics. Perhaps some reader has more information on this.

I vividly remember that Hubbard had a "magnetic" personality, and you were drawn to his every word. After almost 50 years I still remember a great deal about Dianetics. There was a small group of us who really got interested in it, and did some "regressing" and practiced some of the theories in the book. Dianetics is one of those books, as you read it, you can relate to it. You keep saying, "yea, that happened to me," or "I understand that." This was about Dianetics, in the 50's before a  lot of what has happened since then.

Eddy Stream

Another echo from the past ....

Years ago we had an employment agency here in town. One morning we heard a series of tires screaching and horns blowing and in a few minutes we heard a commotion in the hallway, and a young man came sauntering in.

He went face to face, literally, with our receptionist, got an application, sat down, nose and eyes almost touching the paper, started filling it out. Someone took him in tow and helped him fill out the application. He was not blind, but only had a little sight.

I ended up interviewing him.

He had a series of jobs, his latest, running a small food stand in our courthouse. I asked him why he left.
"I got fired, the only way I could tell when the hot dogs were done was when they started burning, and I had to either smell or get very close to the items so I knew what they were."

I went through what we called a "Courtesy Interview." There just were not that many openings for a man that was almost blind.

Found out during our conversation, the reason for all the traffic noise, Eddy just took off across streets, he hoped people would see him before they hit him, thus the horns and screeching tires.

You had to like Eddy, he was very personable. Many mornings he would head for a dry cleaners in town, and spend the day with the delivery man, in his truck, just riding around town. He lived a fairly normal life. In talking with some of his friends I learned that almost each afternoon he would visit the local funeral home downtown to see who was there. One could picture Eddy, standing at the casket, leaning over, nose to nose, to see who had died.

At the end of the interview I asked him what kind of financial help he got each month.

"I don't get none."

"Social Security, DSB, anything like that you get?"

"No, nothing, just what my Mom gives me."

I made a call to the DSB, (Department for Services for the Blind) and arranged an appointment for Eddy.

A week or so later, we hard horns, screeching, we knew Eddy was on his way.

He wanted to thank me, he was making all sorts of money now, getting all sorts of aide, getting home visits, they got him a "cane" and he was doing well.

I lost track of Eddy, I saw him years later, in a nursing home (around Christmas and I was doing Santa). I did a "Ho, Ho, Ho, how are you this Christmas Eddy Stream?"

I got a big broad grin and a smile.

Something to think about

Not sure what made me think of it, but a few years ago, Ann Miller, dancer, who performed in many movies and I think on Broadway, was being interviewed by David Osborne of TCM fame. They were watching clips from some of her movies where she was dancing with all the big stars.

They were showing a few clips of her dancing with Fred Astaire, probably the greatest, and everyone was saying what a great dancer he was, and how they danced so well together.

Her comment.

Remember, when I did all those dance scenes with him, I had to do them all backcwards, and in high heel shoes!

She also commented that the scenes in the movie were done with soft shoes, so those shiney floors didin't get scuffed, and then later, in the screening room, they did the dance again, recording the sounds. A lot more work involved that one might think.

Oilfield Math

This is the way ALL the current administration's policies SHOULD be explained.....

Think of it this way:

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.

A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.

More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars

So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.

We spent $8.57 for every dollar we saved.

I'm pretty sure they will do a great job with our health care, though

Monday AM Just Looking Back a Little

Just sitting here this Monday morning, drinking coffee and doing some remembering.

First one that came to mind was how we all used to listen to Don McNeill and his Breakfast Club that broadcast from Chicao. It was a morning ritual, when not in school.

I remember on a few occasions Dad would take us for a trip to Chicago, stay at the Palmer House, and in the morning, go to the Merchandise Mart and watch them broadcast the show. They almost became  "family" because over the years you got to know them well.

Much like Arthur Godfrey and Ruth Lyons, they were all costant companions while driving in the car or being at home.

Some information on the Breakfast Club ..........

The Breakfast Club helped to establish the morning show as a radio desirable. Until the popularity of The Breakfast Club, morning spots were ill-filled and not very profitable. Hosted by Don McNeill, the Breakfast Club was plugged as "a get-together time for all of us who smile before breakfast and then can’t break the habit all day long – a place to come to when a feller needs a friend.The show began with corny jokes, no sponsor, and a host with a dream. McNeill soon dropped the script and began doing the show by the seat of his pants, interviewing audience members and earned the The Breakfast Club its reputation as "radio’s most unrehearsed show. Listeners started tuning in, Cream of Wheat put up a sponsorship, and guests got better. Among the Breakfast Club regulars lie Jim and Marion Jordan (just before their fame as Fibber McGee and Molly), Marion Mann, Patsy Lee, Johnny Desmond, Alice Lon (famed later as the "Champagne Lady on Lawrence Welk) and Homer and Jethro.

Some more information that you probably don't know ..............

The Breakfast Club was a long-run morning variety show on NBC Blue Network/ABC radio (and briefly on television) originating in Chicago, Illinois. Hosted by Don McNeill, the radio program ran from June 23, 1933 through December 27, 1968. McNeil's 35-and-a-half-year run as host remains the longest tenure for an emcee of a network entertainment program, surpassing Johnny Carson (29½ years) on The Tonight Show and Bob Barker (34⅔ years) on The Price is Right.
