Our Blackest Day - The day of the DISH

May 16, 2012, our blackest day in fifty years, the day SHE knocked on our door, smiled and said......
"Hi, I have a deal for YOU. I can get you TV, internet and the telephone for one low price."
"Will I still get TCM, MeTV and other channels I watch now?"
"Oh, of course. And all for one low price."
"We rent, is it OK with our landlord?"
"Sure."
Our life has not been the same since. They came out soon and installed it. Drilled holes in our wall, sawdust still piled where he left it. Pictures of the wires, around the inside door jam, and piled wire. I honestly think I could have done a better job, blindfolded, with my left hand, and I am right handed. The most amateurish installations I have ever seen. Our first indication of things to come.

I got a copy of our "contract"  from DISH some days later. NO signature of mine, someone had penciled in my initials, J.D. ..... I never signed anything, nor did my wife.

THEN .... PROBLEMS

Marilyn, my wife, was on the phone for hours, trying to get various problems resolved. My wife is a cancer survivor. Drugs they gave her during that time resulted in Congestive Heart Failure, which later necessitated her receiving a Pacemaker/Defibrillator. Stress is not good for her. The stress of all that time and the frustrating, heated conversations may have contributed to her Pacemaker/Defibrillator unit shocking her 37 times in one hour, 40 times for the day, and necessitating a five day stay in the hospital.

We were going to cancel the dish, and the BUNDLE. But, we would pay one company for an early termination, and another one for a re-connect, almost $500. Her hospital bill came to over $80,000.00, and health wise, she has not been the same since. December 7, 1941, I have felt was one of the blackest days in my memory. Now, it is May 16, 2012. Our lives have not been the same since "that woman" knocked on our door.

It is now 25 June, 2012, and right now, she is on the phone trying to resolve a bill, which we were not supposed to pay. Why, someone "debundled" us for some reason, and all three involved, somehow, want to get paid. Beware of being debundled, it is vicious.

Also, before you get a dish, and someone promises you a lot, and a "bundle," read this page. I will keep it updated.

UPDATE . Dish people want $139, not sure why. Windstream told us not to pay it. Marilyn has made 14 calls today, this one being about an hour, and she is supposed to lead a "stress free" lifestyle. I don't think this will ever end. My solution, NO tv, NO internet, NO telephone, will use a cell phone and sell our two TV's

25 June, 2012,10 after 5, I just got done talking to a   rep of the company in Colorado. She was very gracious, went over our entire history, indicated she would get back with me in a few days, and try to get the issue resolved. Why did I talk with her, my wife's blood pressure was nearing 200/100 and it was time to get her off the phone. As the gracious lady in Colorado indicated, it is just not worth getting that upset over.

I wonder if this will ever end.

INSTALLATION QUESTIONS: Our apartment was already wired for cable, outlets in every room, two in the living room, one in each bedroom. We have a TV in the living room, a computer and a router in one bedroom, and a TV in the other bedroom. Pictured here are the THREE holes he drilled, showing the wire running under our door jam, held by two screws, both of which are already loose. I question if it needed to be installed this way, rather than one hole, using the existing wiring. I would like to know if this was necessary, or, my theory, like everything else involved in this installation he had no idea what he was doing. I have looked at other installations in our complex, and all have ONE wire going into the apartment.
