COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man whom a 12-year-old caught on camera ripping copper gutters out of a house has been sentenced to five years on probation.
The Columbus Dispatch reports a Franklin County judge on Wednesday also ordered 27-year-old Dustin A. Fields to pay restitution to the owner of the Columbus home where he stole the gutters in February.
The newspaper reports police say the girl used her cellphone to take pictures of the thief and his SUV after she heard the gutters being torn.
Fields pleaded guilty in July to one felony count of theft. His public defender couldn't be reached for comment.
Fields was employed by a gutter company when he committed the crime. The homeowner told investigators he recognized Fields as a worker who had cleaned his gutters.
