Coyote enters house through doggie door, stays for 30 minutes

Sarah Cancl works with animals of all kinds with Dr. Marc Schmidt, a vet in San Tan Valley, Arizona but she was still taken aback when she found a coyote in her kitchen.

As reported by KSAZ Fox 10 News, the coyote entered her house through a pet dog door. Sarah explained, “Pretty much just broomin’ sweepin’ him away …the coyote would kind of stab, like grab at it and stuff like that, we’d just kind of shoo it away…

It was pretty insane. He finally eventually after like 30 minutes went out." While the incident startled Sarah, her boss said that he’s not a fan of doggie doors in part, because they allow wild animals to enter homes.
"I’ve had people over the years where they had skunks, snakes, things like that come into the house through a doggie door. It's not unusual," said Dr. Schmidt.

The vet understands the need for convenience, but warns that pet owners with those doors need to exercise caution because of the prevalence of coyotes in the area neighborhoods. Dr. Schmidt said, "They’re pretty, pretty clever critters. And if they smell something that smells like food, they’ll do some wild stuff sometimes."

Sarah is taking her boss’ advice and plans on locking her doggie door from now on.
