I just learned of the passing of a friend, Mike Plankenhorn. I have known him for a number of years, have never been close friends, but I have always admired him. He seemed to know everyone, very personable, and he was the epitome of a "salesman." He encompassed all the necessary qualities to make him successful in the sales field.
I have been to a number of Ohio State football games, Mike was always there and enjoying the "pre-game" festivities on Lane Avenue. I met the Columbus legend, Bob Connors, through Mike.
Mike was going through Chemo and Radiation for a brain tumor, he could not have been happy. I guess recently he had been in and out of the hospital, hospice and nursing home care.
Apparently, his expression and the calmness that came over him, indicated that he was ready to go.
