The 19-year-old, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and with his hand heavily bandaged, was arraigned in a Boston federal court at 3:30 p.m.
His sister and dozens of survivors and their families were all present for the appearance, his first public one since his capture from a trailered boat in a suburban Boston backyard days after the April 15 marathon attack he and his late brother are accused of orchestrating.
"I love you, Dzhokhar," his crying sister said as he left.
At the appearance, prosecutors told the judge they expected to call 80 to 100 witnesses and needed three to four months, and the judge set the next hearing for Sept. 23.
It says he "pleaded not guilty." Is that right, or should it have been "plead." Are they going to devote a little time at the start to learn the correct way to pronounce his name, or just refer to him as ... DT ... I forsee a great deal of time being wasted on trying to pronance the name. What will he swear on, a Bible or a ? ...... then, "Do you, dizzy ... ho...k ...har .... har ... tsar ... na ... ev ..... swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you ..... aah .... God ... or ....Allah." ..... "and ..... ah ..... I see you are wearing a backpack ..... could, aah, could, ahh, could the Balif there take .... ah ... IT..... w a y outside and check if out .... ??"
