Long conversation last night .... the NFL and the "lawsuit" which they ?won?
My opening comment, which started the whole discussion, "If you're gonna be a sucker, be a silent one.We MUST purchase car insurance in case we have a wreck, and people and cars, have wrecks. They know that.
Football is a violent sport, people get injured, they know that, realistically, it is the reason it is a popular sport, it is violent, people HIT people, the harder the better. No one would pay big bucks to see a "touch" football game.
Car racing is a dangerous sport, cars, at high rates of speed, in close proximity to each other, have wrecks. My guess is that they have insurance which takes care of their hospital expenses when they do have a wreck, and health issues in later life. The most popular tracks are the ones with the most "action" ..... wrecks and close calls.
Let's say I played little league football, it was a rough sport, people ran with the ball, and other people ran in to them to drag them to the ground. Same in high school .... and perhaps a college even gave me a free education to play the same game, and take the same punishment, perhaps now, even worse. Groomed throughout a career, so far, to be drafted and play in the NFL, in many cases, large sums of money, to play this "contact" sport. Let's say ten years of physical abuse, and then, retirement.
During retirement, an illness, which they saw was because of the abuse I have received over the past twenty years or so. Was it the head blow in little league, or that vicious hit I took in high school, or that tackle in college, NO, it was in the NFL. THEY should have known I could get hurt, golly, I sure didn't/
But, they sued and won the suit .... The NFL knew that I could get hurt, why didn't they let me know.
What about Workman's Comp, did they not pay in to that? If a soldier gets injured in a war, he was recourse with the VA, they were prepared to take care of him.
Kinda like a person making a bet on a 21 table, and losing, and wanting their money back ...
