Monday morning 12/16

Are we, as a nation, spoiled, or what? I just left Walmart, early visit, not to any shoppers in the store. I strolled around pushing my cart with a few items in it, I get a little exercise doing that, went through almost all of the store. Merchandise, merchandise, merchandise, and in some departments, more merchandise. Not just a few items, skids of items, every appliance you could imagine, and some I have never heard of. There was one just for making a breakfast sandwich. And, that is ONE store, in the North, of Newark, Ohio. How can anyone manufacture so many items, produce so much food, and get it on the shelves, in Newark, Ohio.

The older I get, the more it is almost incomprehensible to me, how they do it. We, here in the USA, are spoiled, spoiled, spoiled.

I remember my Mom and I visiting Rikes, a department store, in Dayton,, Ohio, at Christmastime, the toy land was beautiful, the trains, awesome, Santa, fantastic, a memorable experience that is so vivid in my memory, the fragrance of REAL pine trees.. Even the front windows were awesome animated displays of a dream world. They were memories in the making. I vividly remember those, but also, the displays of the Nativity Scene. Joseph and Mary, the Baby Jesus, in store windows, on lawns. We had one under our tree, many people did, it was why we did Christmas. I have spent many memorable hours, laying on the floor, under the tree, taking in every "memory" that Mom had placed there. All the little dolls, the white fence that Dad had made, the church, the little mirrors for frozen ponds, and the prominent, Nativity Scene.

Now, they are illegal, that scene, insults some, offends some, apparently infuriates some. I wonder what that actually indicates.

Kids will have memories of Walmart, the gigantic parking lot, the rows and rows of carts, the smell of money at the bank in the store, the fragrance of plastic Christmas trees, the toys, the bikes, and when Mommy had a question, how hard it was to find an "associate" to assist us, the Manager, on the PA system, pointing out specials, and thanking everyone for "shopping at Walmart." And especially those sanitizing hand wipes to wipe off the carts, and upon leaving, that pathetic looking young boy, all bundled up, fetching all those carts in the parking lot and pushing those loooooooooong line of carts back in to the store for new shoppers, who will enjoy the Walmart Shopping Experience.

"Thanks for Saving with us, Walmart shoppers."
