Bill Stern (July 1, 1907 – November 19, 1971) was a U.S. actor and sportscaster who announced the nation's first remote sports broadcast and the first telecast of a baseball game. In 1984, Stern was part of the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame’s inaugural class which included sportscasting legends Red Barber, Don Dunphy, Ted Husing and Graham McNamee. He was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame (1988) and has a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A voice from my past. I grew up listening to him. I remember him mostly througle, and had a number of industry firsth radio. I forget the name of the show, but he did one brief show where he talked of "oddities." Almost a Ripley's type show on the radio. I still remember some of them to this day.
His voice was instantly recognizable and he had some industry "firsts." I spent many hours in front of the old Philco listening to him. I don't think he was the "voice" of one team, he did specials, plus his own shows.
