Hawthorne Hill


Since this morning was the 110th anniversary of the first powered flight by the Wright Brothers on December 17, 1903, here is a photo of Orville Wright's Hawthorn Hill estate where he lived from 1914 until his death in 1948. This photo was taken yesterday during the morning snowfall.

I often passed this house on my way to school. A friend of mine had the paper route and delivered here, and I "subd" for him when he was not able to. I delivered here a few times, and have actually seen Orville sitting on this porch in the evenings on a few occasions. At that time, he was just Orville Wright, he has become more historically important to me as I have aged. Not many can say they delivered newspapers to Orville Wright. I can, I have even walked by their bicycle shop, only lived a few blocks from it then.......
