South Shore Room at Harrahs at Tahoe. Had "comps" from a friend, great seats, fine dinner, and then the house lights dim, go out, a bright, small spot, hits the black curtain, and then, there he is, himself, a collective "swoon" was heard throughout the room by all the ladies in attendance. He takes off singing hit after hit after hit. After many songs, he says, "Bet you didn't think I could talk, did you."
I have also seen him "working out" at the track at the University of Nevada in Reno. I think at a time in his life he had to decide whether to do the Olympic Tryouts, or record a song. We know which way he went.
I went to Vegas to see him on a few occasions, had a friend there who knew him, never got to meet him though. Probably more of his songs in my "memory bank" than anyone else. Three years my junior and still going strong.
