The Blue Chesterfield $20

This is a Blue, $20 chip from the Chesterfield Club that was in Detroit, Michigan through the 20's up until the 40's.

The Chesterfield Club
Was located on Gratiot just south of Ten Mile Road in East Detroit (Now Eastpointe). It operated from 1924-1943. The Chesterfield was deliberately set up to simulate the look of a repair garage. Free busses and taxi's would pick up patrons at special locations along Gratiot in Detroit. They would pull inside the establishment, the door would close and the gambling room was upstairs.

This picture may be the location, not sure, it does fit the description, however. Lincoln Fitzgerald, Danny Sullivan were the primary owners, who in the 40's moved to Reno and opened The Nevada Club.

I have one of these chips, holding it now, I used them on the tables in the 50's, as a dealer. Fitz had brought them West, and used them for quite a while. I am in awe of this chip, wondering who all might have come in contact with it, the roaring 20's and the 30's, the history this chip might know of. Capone, the Rothschilds, and so many more.

I have talked with some of the "old timers" who worked there and went West with Fitz and Danny. Some shared some of their memories of the club, and :guests" who had visited. Great memories.
