I have nothing turned on this morning, sitting here in complete silence, just me, my laptop and the front window. The sun is shining, the weather is nice, I hear an occasional car door, but other than that ... silence. It is difficult to find "quiet" any more. Quiet is one of the greater resources that we possess, and I am sitting here with my "thoughts." And memories. It must be tragic when one loses .... memory. I thank HIM, that I still have mine, pretty much in tact, occasional ........... lapses ........... but, in the end, I generally can conjure up what I was trying to remember, a name or a place or an incident.
I suppose that those who lose their memory really don't know what they have lost, so it is not devastating to them, just to those around them. I would prefer keeping my memory.
I have a small end table that my Dad made, have it under the window here, and on it, treasurers. A small photograph of my Mom and Dad, probably from the 20's or 30's. Next to it, one of my brother, Dean Shannon Dooley, who I never really got to know. He was twelve years older, and we were always a world apart, so we really never had a brother/brother thing like I see on TV. When I was in grade school, he was in high school, then he went to college, then in the Navy, then married and moved away, so we really never had much time together. I regret that we were so far apart agewise. Had a sister, but she died at birth.
There are two souvenirs from a trip we took in the early 40's, on boats, up the St. Lawrence and the Saguenay Rivers in Canada. It was during the war and they had no rationing, I ate well. Nice trip, just Mom and Dad and I.
Dad built a drawer at the top of the glass topped cabinet do you can look in at other "treasurers." In that drawer, my Dad's Garrison Hat from WWI, getting close to a 100 years old, some other WWI medals and things, Some Reno items, dice and chips. Pictures on the walls of my kids, a sign that my brother;s wife Rebecca Rhue Dooley had made up for my folks when they moved too their new place, 1961 DOOLEY. There is a mirror, from a dresser, my dresser, it too is over 80 years old. Next to it, a "Week" clock from my niece, Jane Dooley. I clever gift, she is thought of daily, many times, when I look to see what day it is.
Some items from Brad and Bernie and Melissa, a wedding invitation from Dean and Robbin, Daughter Debra on the wall behind me, surrounded my wonderful memories.
I thank HIM each morning for giving me another day to experience. It is so quiet ...... nice.
