Something I learned a long time ago that is still pertinent today, and I have often used it over the years.
Assign jobs, work, tasks, whatever, to people who don't know that it "Can't Be Done." How many times have you mentioned an idea to someone only to hear, "Oh, you can't do that." I have had occasions to use that theory, and given tasks to people who were not aware that it could not be done.
Many years ago we had a restaurant, out in the country a bit, in a small crossroads town. I have been a follower of Jerry Lewis and this Telethon for many years, back to the day when it was on radio and done from New York, in a theatre, with Midshipmen from Annapolis as ushers and collecting money from the guests. I wanted to do a little something at the restaurant to collect money for the event. We were all sitting in a booth, my wife, the waitresses and a few others. I said, "Let's do a LITTLE SOMETHING to collect money for the telethon." That was all it took.
One of them, "didn't know" that you could not put on a 128 unit parade in Marne, with bands, fire engines and equipment from all around the county, every politician running for anything in the area, companies that were not even remotely close had entries, .... she didn't know that you couldn't do that.
Another one did not know that you couldn't have a trucking company loan us two flatbeds for stages, and have continuous entertainment for two days. One didn't know that we could be on TV in Columbus and answer phones for an hour or two, in our Orange t-shirts that my wife had made up. They were orange because no one would buy them and we got them at a low price, silk screened with our name on them.
Big John didn't know that we could not set up the parking lot full of games, for all ages. No one told John that he could not go through local bars and find mice for one game, so he did it.
I have used that philosophy during a few political campaigns I was involved with. I found people that did not know that there were certain guidelines for running a campaign, fund raisers, etc, sos they came up with unique ideas and they were successful. "Let's do." "Oh, you can't do that." Not true.
I have found stay at home Moms and housewives are a great source of ideas and energy. They don't know that things can't be done, they just go ahead and do them.
It works, try it sometime ....
Please don't ask about that sign over our door .... I thought it was clever ...
"Eat under the Golden Arch" .... NO ONE every told me how stupid it was and I wasn't smart enough to realize it ..... that was the "Impulsive" side of me coming out ... and it has reared its head so many times in my life ............ in hind site, it was probably one of the more stupid things I have ever done ..........
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies."
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."-- Thomas Jefferson
"When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout." .... jbd
"When once a job you have begun, do no stop till it is done. Whether the task be great or small, do it well, or not at all." .... Anon
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. - Albert Einstein
Television is one daylong commercial interrupted periodically by inept attempts to fill the airspace in between them.If you can't start a fire, perhaps your wood is wet ....
