HOF Weekend - "Summer has left the building"

The NFL Hall of Fame is this weekend, brings back many fond memories, my Son, Brad and I went up there a few times when it was a much smaller event than it is today. Then it was a one day event, parade in the morning, then the ceremony, then the game, now a much bigger, television event. It is now a televised television show, not an event that was televised.

It was much more intimate then, the ceremony was held in front of the main building, we could walk through the building and rub elbows with many "greats," see them walking around, grab a snack with them. I remember those "Steeler" years, Ham and Lambert, and maybe Harris, I forget all of them, but there was a sea of Gold and Black in the crowd, in the chairs, sitting on the surrounding cement walls, all over the place. Not sure the year then started holding them in the stadium, but it could not be as "intimate" and so up close with the inductees. He is a legend.

We saw Mike Ditka, eating lunch, some "old timers" that I remembered that were  before Brad's time. I was brought up surrounded by sports. I vaguely remember the old Dayton Triangles, a medical resident at the hospital was staying with us, Herb Harris, and he would head out on Sundays to be their team doctor, and an old high school teacher of mine, Mack Hummon, as I recall, played for them. I think he was the first all American from Heidelberg college. Doctor Harris later moved to Lansing, Michigan where he was the team Orthopedic specialist for Michigan State, was well respected, and even worked on the knees of one Joe Namath.

Canton and the HOF have a warm spot in my heart, fond memories. This is the Golden Anniversary of the HOF and 121 gathered for the occasion. The football game, the Kickoff for this season, will be tomorrow, between the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins.

Summer is over, football season is here, now, the Fall and Winter months will speed by, just like the Summer season has, I think we've had Summer, haven't we?
