(CNN) – After 41 years of being the only undefeated team to win the Super Bowl, the 1972 Miami Dolphins are finally being invited to the White House.
President Barack Obama will honor them in a special ceremony on August 20.
The 1972 Miami Dolphins remain the only NFL team to win every game in the regular season and the playoffs. The team went 17-0, beating the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII on Jan. 14, 1973.
The Dolphins were never honored by then President Richard Nixon. While it is unclear as to why, it's assumed that the celebration didn't happen because it occurred in the middle of the Watergate scandal.
