Where?

After eighty years and many days, I woke up this morning with a question on my mind, please don't ask me why. Back in the 30's and 40's we lived at 319 South Brown Street in Dayton, Ohio. My Dad was a Doctor. Brown Street was a main North/South street. The Brown Street bus ran on the street. Prior to that it had tracks in the middle and the trolley ran on the street.

We had our home and office together, office hours 1-3 and 7-9, and the office was always packed at those hours and generally, especially the evening hours went on till quite late at night.

The question I woke up with, "Where did they Park?"

I don't think there was parking on Brown Street. We were in the middle of the block so it is possible they parked on Jones or Chestnut and walked. There was no parking room behind out house. It was a neighborhood medical practice and I suppose the majority of them walked to the office, sick or well. Dad did make house calls in those days, so the sickest, he went to them.

I remember on one occasion, a Mother brought her son to the office. They had taken the bus. He had a "thunder mug" ..... a large "pot" that was placed under the bed for late night bathroom issues. He had placed it on his head and could not get it off. Here was a Mother, with her son, with a pot on his head, taking the bus to the Doctors office. It removed itself easily after Dad hit it with a hammer. Modern medicine.

I still wonder where they parked, though. Never thought about it for 80 years till this morning.
