I propose that we make every Tuesday, "Takem back Tuesday." A month ago I decided we should start saving those plastic grocery bags we get, from everyone. Have been doing it now for quite a while. Our front closet is getting rather full of them. I cannot remember to take them back to Krogers or Walmart. Need some reminder ... OK, "Takem Back Tuesday."
Reminds me too, don't know when, but we went from metal and glass, to plastic, "Tupperware" was the cause of it all. At one time I was going to put some sort of a decal on our front window, in case of a fire, to let the fire department know we were a hazardous residence, full of toxic plastics.
The Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins will face each other in the NFL/Hall of Fame, the league’s annual preseason classic that kicks off each season today at 8 this evening. I have seen a few games there with son Brad. Unlike other NFL games, the NFL/Hall of Fame Game is played in a historic high school stadium. Hay folks, Summer has come and gone, in an instant, football is starting.
To Bill ... Have been giving it a lot of thought ... I think it was after Boot Camp, in '52, LA airport, I was flying a "non scheduled airline" .... if you remember those, we were all aboard for a flight to Chicago, and one engine died on the old plane. We all got off, they put us up in motels while they got a new engine from "Tinker Toys" .... as we joked. It was an experience flying one of those. Always think of Newhart and his Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company ... you went upstairs to the bathroom to weigh your luggage on the bathroom scales.... almost that bad. Three stewardesses, NO training, NO uniforms, just three women of "questionable" background who needed a ride East. ..... Anyway, while waiting, watched a film being shot at the airport .... Frank Lovejoy was saying goodbye to Virginia Mayo. My first two "stars."
I think there were a number of "Non Scheds" in those days in the airline industry. Unreliable but low cost and generally NO FRILLS. The above flight was a round trip from LA to Chicago, in my younger "no worries" days. I think the planes were DC-3's, probably war surplus, two engine. I think I saved almost half on the fare .... but NO guarantees of anything, as Newhart said, "This is the Captain speaking, have any of you passengers ever been to Hawaii, it's kinda liver shaped, isn't it."
