I was curious. A few years ago, the Pet Department at our local Walmart was one small row of shelves, back in a corner, near their "Seasonal" department. Then they moved, and they keep growing and growing and growing. So I did a little checking.
For 2013, it estimated that $55.53 billion will be spent on our pets in the U.S.
In 1994 it was $17 Billion
Can we call that a "Growth Industry?"
I did a little Walmart checking, it looks like, last year, Pet Sales accounted for 2.25% of sales, and that same year, Food and Beverage, accounted for 5%. That is some pretty big numbers.
