A lady who worked in produce at Walmart helped me find garlic, already peeled, the last one I got was in a little jar. She looked and could not find them, they had done an extensive "re-arrange" job as they are prone to do. She finally found some, but it was in a plastic bag type of thing
We talked about old age, I mentioned that I was 80.
She said, "You don't look a day over 60."
I've given a lot of thought to that, it was a compliment, but I'm not sure I want to look 60. When I was 30 or 40 I would have been somewhat insulted or offended by a comment like that. I would have been insulted when I was 60.
I guess I still don't realize I'm old. 60 is old, 80 is ancient. I remember in college at The Citadel, head of the school was one General Charles P. Summerall who was in his 80's when I attended school there. We often saw him driving around campus, and were amazed and joked about such an old man still being able to drive a car. Oddly enough, my Dad remembered standing "post" at his tent during WWI.
We've often talked about Esther Williams the last few days, she will always be the beautiful girl in Thrill of a Romance to me. She will never get old. I think we have a tendancy to remember people favorably. My Uncle Denny lived to be around 100, but I remember him as being younger. I had known him all of my life. My wife's Grandmother, lived to be 100 or so, I remember her that way, but that is the only way I ever knew her.
So I think I remember myself as being younger, so "You don't look a day over 60" ..... well .........
Oh, the girl at the top .... I Googled "You don't look a day over 60" and she was in the group of photographs .... the others were all kinda boring ............
