Charles Kettering

On the right, Charles Kettering. Well, for one, he invented the self starter for a car, and many other things. I have seen him on numerous occasions in Dayton.

Our neighbor, Mr. Werner, had some "joint patents" with him. That in itself is rather impressive. The last I saw him was in the 40's, in a parade, with FDR and Orville Wright, an impressive "trio" if there ever was one. Orville didn't finish the parade with them, he got out and walked home. I lived just a few blocks from his home. Another neighbor was his family physician. I was too young at the time to be impressed with any of the "history" I was surrounded with.

Dayton, Ohio, where I was born, historically, bred a world changing class of people. NCR, all over the world, the self starter for a car, many things came out of there. Some of the early work on the atomic bomb was done in Dayton, the Enigma code, and so many more things were involved in Dayton.

I was born there in '32, called it home. Now, I am on a Facebook page about Dayton. Historically, a lot happened I did not know about .......................
