Boy Stabbed to Death by Classmate Outside Bronx Middle School

A boy was fatally stabbed by a classmate outside a Bronx middle school Wednesday, just one day before they were set to graduate, officials say.

The 14-year-old victim, identified as Timothy Crump, was stabbed multiple times outside of Joseph Wade Middle School in Morris Heights at about 3 p.m., according to police.

He was taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital in critical condition and later died, police said.

A knife was recovered at the scene, and the suspect, another 14-year-old boy, was taken into police custody. He faces murder and manslaughter charges.

Students who witnessed the stabbing said it appeared to have stemmed from some sort of altercation that started inside the school.

"The boy came out of the school, pulled out a knife and just started stabbing," said one student. "The [victim] tried to run but by the time he got there, he was bleeding. He tried to run back, and that's when he fell to the floor."

The victim was bleeding profusely when he collapsed, and a security guard rushed over to aid him, according to the student.

It's not clear what sparked the fight, but some parents told NBC 4 New York the two boys have had previous confrontations.

Crump lived at a shelter with his mother, and neighbors described him as a "great kid" who "never got into trouble."

"It's always the innocent that get taken," said Tyrone Rivers.
