Flags line Route 32 for miles in Beaver, Ohio.
Army Specialist Justin Helton, who was 25, one of five soldiers killed in the line of duty earlier this month.
Military officials believe they were hit by friendly fire during an airstrike in southern Afghanistan.
He'd only been there about two months and a soldier since 2010.
During Monday's ceremony, Bill Burgess with the VA Hospital presented Helton's fiance with a flag with close to 1,500 signatures and messages from veterans and community members.
Burgess said, "You're not desecrating the flag to me for this occasion we called it a banner at the ball game and about every inning another wave of people would come so it was really inspiring."
Saturday, thousands lined the streets to welcome Helton home one last time.
We're told Justin Helton was the first soldier from Pike County, Ohio to die since the Vietnam War.
Killed by "friendly" fire. Something obscene about that term. Hundreds have turned out for his funeral, people from all over. I nice, fitting, tribute .... for a senseless death. We have seen too many of these around the country, young men, uselessly killed. in this case by gunfire. There is no such thing as "friendly fire." I don't think there is any such thing ... if it is intended to kill someone, it is not friendly, in any.
