Athletics = High School = College = $$$$$$$$$$$$$

We, the USA, apparently are the only country in the world where athletics is bigger than academics. There are little to NO athletics in other countries in colleges. They attend school to get an education, what a concept is that.

In may states, coaches and athletic directors make more money than the governor of the state. At OSU, the football coach makes more than the college president, I think the AD does also, when all is said and done.

COLUMBUS: Every time an Ohio State athlete or team wins a national title — in track, swimming, fencing, rifle, pistol or any of 24 other non-revenue sports — athletic director Gene Smith will receive a bonus of $18,000 to $36,000 under terms of the new contract extension announced earlier this week.
Smith could earn more than $1.5 million a year in salary and bonuses under the pact that runs through June 2020.
If the Buckeyes football team plays in a major bowl game or the men’s or women’s basketball teams make it to the Final Four, Smith will receive four times his weekly base salary, or more than $72,000.
Smith also received the additional title of university vice president and has oversight of Ohio State’s facilities, marketing and branding.

 At Northwestern, they athletes are becoming employees of the school. NOT students, employees, I wonder if that includes paid vacations.

Athletics now rules the school, something wrong there. Who is responsible, in my opinion, very simple, television rules. Athletics and television gained popularity about the same time, no coincidence. The biggest television spectaculars revolve around athletics, the Super Bowl, March Madness, pro football, and where are we academically, . . . .  .   on the hind one.

On an annual basis, it would be interesting to know the breakdown on "hours" .... programming hours. Athletic events vs other shows ..... how much revenue taken in on them would also be interesting to know. Revenue from TV is talked about in BILLIONS, not millions, revenue going in to colleges, BILLIONS not millions. So, don't tell me ALL games are on the "up and up" when they are being controlled by TV. They would much "prefer" seeing happen what might be best for them, not the schools.

It's all about the DOLLARS, here in the good old USA.

Where will I be tonight? Watching basketball games.......
