Security .... diminishing

I remember, many years ago, being tucked in by my Mom, saying my Prayers, knowing that when I woke up in the morning, all would be well, everything would be alright. I must admit, that all these years later, there is a slight concern on my part ... that there will a "next day," and that all with be right with the world.

Maybe it was just innocence on my part, many of those early years were overshadowed with wars and crises of various natures, I guess my "innocence" changed in December of 1941. I don't recall ever being concerned about my safety during the war, it was never brought close to home.

I think my insecurity started in the last ten years or so. We lock our front door, after entering, because of "home invasions" that occur with regularity, on the news. We hear of "drive by" shootings in all neighborhoods, at all times, for many reasons. I must admit, it is in the back of my mind, when I enter our local bank, a robbery might occur. I unconsciously check out the others in the bank, looking for anyone suspicious. I could say that I look for suspicious persons in our visits to Walmart, but that would, well, if you have been to Walmart you know.

Maybe fear comes with age, my Mother, being a Doctors wife, with home and office together for many years, had a story for almost any situation, she knew of someone getting injured or dying. Billy Badger choked to death throwing a peanut in the air and catching it in his mouth, went down his windpipe. So I have been cautioned and cautious most of my life, not paranoid, just cautions.

I guess that age plays a big part in it, the older I get, the more often .... one of those ..... Senior Moments, I guess they are called. Split second decisions, or thoughts or actions that may be wrong. The other evening I went to s restaurant to get chicken dinners. Parked, went in, ordered, got my food and got in the car. Started the engine, slowly hit the accelerator and the car started forward ... I wanted to back out, put it in D instead of R. I have learned to be cautions to cover those moments.
