Mid week comments - 8/13/14

Stopped at a nearby Speedway yesterday, out in front, a display, selling water by the case. On one end, a brand of water sells for $3.99, on the other end, another brand, sells for $2.99. Why is there a $1.00 difference in water? The higher priced one was bottled by Coke, but still, water is water. Is "brand name" that important to some people? It shows the power of advertising.

Hey, how is the world today, funny you ask. Floods in New York, they had record rainfalls, 11 inches I think it was. That is a lot of rain. We had three inches here in Newark. What happens and where do all the flooded cars end up, many thousands in the last few years. Are they sell able, ruined, the water can't do them any good. With all that has been going on in the world the last few years, there must be as many "wet" cars on the marked and "dry" cars.

I have the "stares" .... just quietly sitting, looking out the front window .... have just seen ads on TV for new shows, Naked Dating, Naked and Afraid, Body Painting, and three commercials showing women in their underwear. Got me thinking back to the 40's, the girls wore long skirts down to the top of their "bobby socks." Television had some censorship and codes they were governed by and the only "female flesh" to be seen was at the Mayfair theater, burlesque.

Recently, some women protested something by going topless if front of a church which had opposed something they did. Some guy in New York is running around complete naked protesting something. I am not prudish, but I often sit in awe of some of the shows on TV. Censors, now have a line that cannot be crossed, killing, you are not allowed to kill anyone, actually kill them, on TV or in the movies. Other than that, anything goes.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? A kid, anymore would question nothing. Between TV and the Internet, any question can be answered, the only mystery in life are how some of these street magicians do some of their tricks ... and .... I am not sure all of them are "tricks." They are just impossible.

I guess the only answer to this question is the shape the world is in today ... so .... NO, it is not a good thing. I think it has all seemed to "cheapen" life, life used to be a sacred thing. I think some kids and people get to a point where death, as an alternative is more appealing. Living conditions, no job, no home, mo prospects, no future, there is no alternative, so that attitude permeates abundantly.

As a youth, I would sneak a peek at my Dad's medical books, especially the anatomy ones ... no longer, all a kid would need now is a computer .... certainly cuts down on the use of ones imagination .........
