A Burt Lake Sunset ...................

OH ... all I can say.

This is a scene of a sunset on Burt Lake
in Northern Michigan

We used to vacation here, most Summers.

So many fond memories of this area.

John Greenman and his store

The "natives" would congregate on Saturday night, eat canned Sardines and drink  beer. If you got a little out of line, a nob from John and you got up and went home.

John Greenman was a true pioneer of the North. His home, he build from lake stones and when we first started going up there in the 30's, he supplied us ice, no refrigeration then, that he sawed from the lake and he kept in his ice house. We had an icebox in the kitchen.

This photograph brings a tear to my eye, been many years since I have seen one of these, and probably have seen my last one.

My thanks to Hoppies Tavern for posting this on Facebook, they gladdened an old heard. "Hoppy," John Hopkins, bought John Greenman's store, and turned it in to a bar. Hoppy was a vacationer up there as were we. He had a ChrisCraft, let me drive it once while fishing, have had a love for them ever since, I can still "basque" in the moment when I first sat behind that steering wheel, looked out of that windshield, at the Sunset, and was told to steer straight for that Sun. They were trolling for Walleye .... I had a hard time not "weaving" the beautiful Mahogany Chris Craft.
