A WHY just occurred to me

Just saw a commercial on TV, naturally, about a company having a sale on tires.

Made me wonder, why are there different qualities of tires? The 40,000 mile tire was on sale. My concern, am I safer on an expensive tire than in a cheaper one? Are those who can afford the more expensive tire safer than I am on the set I can afford.

What is the difference between a cheap tire and an expensive tire? Quality, safety, endurance, a car I understand, you pay more money for a name and more luxury. What happens if you take an expensive car and put cheap tires on it?

Why don't they make all tires the same? Ironic, in a way. If you can't afford the expensive ones, you settle on cheaper ones, that you get less mileage from, so you have to buy tires more often. If the expensive ones last twice as long, well you see where that goes, and you apparently are safer in the expensive ones.

I remember years ago when we bought "recaps." How unsafe were they, if you got a bad one, the tread would come off, but, I was younger than, and things like that didn't seem to worry me.

Today, 40,000 miles is about one-third of the life of a car, just look at the mileage on the cars in used car lots.
