SMI - 1/24/15
Went to OSU yesterday, for a visit with Kidney Stone expert Doctor Knudsen. Result, I go back in two weeks for an Ultrasound and another visit that is done. Had a real shock yesterday, one consideration concerning what can be done ...... my age .... first time I had heard that, TOO OLD for .
The Renal Ultrasound will be performed in the Stephanie Spielman Center. She was the wife of Chris Spielman, OSU football great, who I have seen play, also played in the pros, and her fight with Breast Cancer was followed by many. I'm sure I will enter her building experiencing some emotions.
I have .... almost .... decided to leave my body to the OSU Medical school. I have had so many surgeries, Appendectomy, Vagotomy, Kidney Stones (3), Cyst in Colon, Triple Bi Pass, more Kidney Stones and Laproscopic Surgery for a Hernia, actually he did 16 holes, rather than the one he was going to do. The hospital got rid of him. I am thinking of getting a tattoo listing all of the above so some student does not miss anything, and knows my medical history.
The first Doctor I saw yesterday, not sure of his name, in doing some research of the staff, the only one from Illinois, which he mentioned to me was a Doctor Chad Gridley, so it may have been him. Anyway, he was wearing a similar pair of shoes. I rarely am attracted to a mans shoes, but these, I thought, were stunning. If I were younger, and, wore something other than $5 tennis shoes from Walmart, would definitely have a pair of these. On second thought, I would have to shop around at other places, these were a bit on the pricey side, real quality, but a bit much for my price range. I think, a tap on the shoe will link you to their site.
GREAT NEWS RECEIVED THIS MORNING - Hi, Unc. Thanks for update....what a long process but they must run their tests! Hang in there!(referring to my Kidney Stones)
Kyle is recovering well from the lumpectomy on Thursday and will get biopsy results and her customized therapy plan next week. She will have radiation for sure, but perhaps no chemo... to be determined... but her spirits are good and hopefully she will finish with an “all clear” in a few months. Love, - Janie
Kyle is my Niece, one the youngest of my brothers three children. She and her sister Jane and her daughter Becca came down for our 50th. first I had seen her in many years, and had never seen her daughter. She is raising two great children. That damnable Cancer
I have been remiss in posting more, but personal health issues combined with major concerns about the health of my wife has taken precedence over everything else. Every waking hour I am concerned about her, Survival and taking the steps necessary for survival dominate our days, and we are probably in much better shape than many are. I have had, in the past, a number of conversations with my Dad about .... Quality versus Quantity .... of life. As a physician, I think he often weighed that dilemma, in his day of practicing medicine, it was much more often in the hands of the physician than it is today. I think today it is Quantity, at all costs.

News Flash
News Release: It was reported this evening that Ohio State University Football Coach Urban Meyer called Kaplan University to inquire if they would be interested in scheduling OSU next year. He guaranteed them a minimum of a million dollars to make the trip to Columbus, Ohio. The representative from Kaplan informed the coach that they did not have a football team, to which Coach Meyer replied, "Small world."

Fired Ohio State University band director wants school's Board of Trustees to reinstate him
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jon Waters, the fired Ohio State University marching band director, has asked the school's Board of Trustees to give him back his job.
An attorney for Waters listed a number of reasons for reinstatement in a letter to the board. He asked that the panel take the action at its next meeting.
Waters was fired last month for what the school said was allowing a "sexualized" culture to permeate the band.

I personally am getting sick of hearing this story. I am not sure what words I can use to explain my opinion of him. First, I would be shocked if he were given his job back, and secondly, I don't know why HE thinks he is entitled to get it back. He must be the biggest ... "wootz" in the world. Why would he even want to go back? In my mind the school was well within their rights to do it, and I am sure, had just cause. As I said before, why does he not head to Akron and take a job there, don't be worried about qualifications or reputation.

Fired band director Waters might sue Ohio State
And he sez he wants his job back ... he's going about it the wrong way. The attorney must need the publicity. When did it happen that an employer cannot fire an employee ... maybe it's a state thing. Seems to me that Waters even acknowledged some problems he was working on ... so some did exist. I say let him head to Akron and lead their band and not waste everyone's time and money just to listen to him whine ..... and in the statement below Waters didn't say ..... "suing The Ohio State University" .......
After disbursing a five-page “white paper” on legal topics surrounding the firing this morning, lawyer David Axelrod said that Ohio State denied Waters his constitutional right to due process. Waters said in earlier interviews that he had no plans to sue Ohio State, but Axelrod said it’s still a possibility.
“It’s an option, and if we can’t resolve it without filing a lawsuit, then we may do that,” Axelrod said.
In his report today, Axelrod wrote that Ohio State never gave Waters the chance to defend himself properly. Axelrod cited federal guidelines requiring schools to “include the opportunity for both parties to present witnesses and evidence,” but he said Waters never had that opportunity.

Ohio State Fires Band Director After Report Details Overly Sexual Culture
The Columbus Dispatch reported band director Jonathan Waters was fired for fostering “a deep culture of sexual harassment.” Waters was ousted after complaints surfaced that male and female band members had to play together in only their underwear during an annual midnight practice session, new members were allegedly given sexually explicit nicknames, and hung from luggage racks on the bus in sexual positions. Explicit lyrics set to team songs were part of a band songbook, the Dispatch reported. “In one case, a female student was told to imitate a sexual act on the laps of other band members, including her brother,” the Dispatch reported. Waters allegedly ignored complaints about several of these allegations from band members and did nothing to stop alcohol abuse on a band trip.
So, Waters was fired. Now, he wants his job back ..... "problems that existed were not true" he says. I gathered they were "old" problems ... seems to me that a word from him would have removed the problems.
If OSU lets him return I would think they are opening themselves to a lawsuit, I don't see how they could possibly do it. Waters is in New York, hitting the TV circuit, crying, "I want my job back." I would doubt that it would ever happen. I am sure that OSU, prior to dismissing him, had just cause.
How often do you see someone .... RE hired, none come to mind .... and, The Pride of Ohio .... The Best Damned Band in the Land .... Well, OK, all the things that happened, well, it was before your time, and well, you probably could have stopped them, but ... well, it's better to taper off, I guess .. so here, is the "baton, Maestro"..... when time permits, have them cut down on the hazing and the harassment and abuse and stuff, OK John, we're sorry .... You dot the i this year, OK?
WHY would he even want the job back? The "blemish" is on his record, never to be removed, maybe no one else wants him so he is trying to get his old job back. He must be a really proud man, no, not that, practical, perhaps .................
If he gets his job back and is rehired .. the wore PROUD should not be used, either by the director nor the university ...........

A gracious loser at OSU
Urban Meyer, the once defeated, highly paid football coach at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, who lives in a lavish home near the prestigious Murfield Golf Course, after his teams defeat in Indianapolis, Indiana at the hands of the football team from Michigan State University, refused to leave a golf cart that was parked outside the facility, that he was sulking or despondently sitting in, head in his hands, outside of the Lucas Oil Stadium, where the game was played.
He kept muttering to himself, "Why, why, why, we never lose, I promised Gene (Gene Smith, overpaid athletic director at The Ohio State University) that if they paid me more the Gee, that we would not lose a game, we scheduled teams, for two years, that we could beat, and now this, we didn't schedule this game, that's the problem, darn, darn, darn, bad conference, bad conference."
He finally left the security of the golf cart at the insistence of his wife and boarded the team bus. He was asked by a reporter about the break in tradition by not singing "Carmen Ohio" with the team and the band, something they have faithfully done each game, to which he replied, "What, who, when, where." Apparently memories of his days as a TV reporter and sports analyst.
The coach later stated that he would rather see his team play in Florida than California, "It's a lot closer, and, Clemson is an agricultural school, we can beat a bunch of farmers."

The Ohio State University football team ..... lost, post game tradition, forgotten
I was thinking of Ohio State football, this morning, and Jim, way out there in Oklahoma. Many OSU fans felt they should be NUMBER ONE in the country. I got the impression that knowledgeable football analysts didn't feel that way. As there ex maligned spendthrift president, Gee, once referred to teams who play the "Sisters of the Poor," I think it was, and referred to other schools when he should have looked at his own horseshoe, so to speak.
Only OSU fans, naturally, felt they were qualified to be Number one.
They played Michigan, I team I felt was not very good this year, and OSU didn't win, Michigan lost. Big Difference. Now, they have played MSU and lost.
I think all doubt has been removed about the quality of OSU.
I must admit, I did not watch the second half, I went to bed. I woke up later on, and turned the radio on to our local station, which had broadcast the game. I listened to the Post Game interview with the coach and a few players. Listening to their comments, their attitude, I assumed that OSU had won the game. Not till their interview was over and they announced the score, did I know that MSU had won. I am not sure they think that they lost. That is one reason that I am no longer an OSU fan, I used to be an avid one. I wonder how many OSU fans had already made plans to attend the Championship game.
INDIANAPOLIS – If you want to know how badly the Big Ten championship loss wounded Ohio State, consider this: After Michigan State had finished harmin' Ohio, the Buckeyes bagged "Carmen Ohio."
At a school that takes its traditions seriously, that will be considered sacrilege by some fans. Under former coach Jim Tressel, the ritual was non-negotiable: Win or lose, the team would gather postgame before the marching band and sing the song, written more than a century ago by an Ohio State student. For 24 games under Urban Meyer, that continued. Game ended, players gathered, song was sung. Meyer, a self-proclaimed lover of Buckeye lore, was always front and center, flanked by players on either side.
Made for a nice photo op, at the very least.
Of course, for 24 games there was never a loss, never a chance to test the commitment to tradition in a time of adversity.
Saturday night, that changed. Saturday night, Meyer's Buckeyes finally lost – and did so in shocking fashion. They fell behind the Spartans 17-0, roared back for a 24-17 lead, then were hit with another 17-0 flurry in a devastating 34-24 loss.
National title aspirations vanished. The program that had dominated a diminished Big Ten finally played an opponent of consequence – and was exposed as a cut below championship mettle.

"The Rape in the Shoe"
"No checks, we want the $900,000 in cash, small bills, UP FRONT, before the game, and an airplane, gassed and ready, at the airport, and buses at the stadium for the team, and a doctor, we want a good doctor on the plane, and an Orthopedic Surgeon too, and, well, ah, a rape therapist."
COLUMBUS, Ohio — After a 76-0 victory over outmanned and over matched Florida A&M, Urban Meyer couldn't say for certain that his Ohio State team got a lot out of its meek non-conference schedule. “Obviously, at midnight next week, we’ll know,” the coach of No. 4 Ohio State said, referring to the Big Ten opener on Saturday against No. 24 Wisconsin. “Are we prepared? I like to think we are.”
There’s no doubt that Kenny Guiton is. For the third game in a row, the perennial backup starred in place of the injured Braxton Miller. Guiton set a school record with six touchdown passes — all in the first half — in a blow-out of historic proportions.
It was an epic mismatch between a team with national-title aspirations and a Football Championship Subdivision member getting a $900,000 guarantee.
FAMU, which picked up the sport in 1899, had never lost by so many points. It was the most lopsided Ohio State win since an 85-7 victory over Drake in 1935.
“We don’t want a pity party,” said Rattlers coach Earl Holmes, who made a point of saying the Buckeyes didn’t run up the score on his team. “I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t expect the coach to kneel. You play the game. You play for 60 minutes.”
At least it was decided relatively quickly. The Buckeyes (4-0) were up 21-0 in the opening 6 minutes and never looked back. Guiton, who completed 24 of 34 passes for 215 yards, tossed four TD passes in the first quarter. “I had all day,” Guiton said. “The coaches wanted to come out throwing the ball around and I thank them for the trust they had in me to be able to do that.”
FAMU (1-3) was behind 48-0 when it picked up its initial first down in the second quarter.
The stats were as lopsided as the score. Ohio State had a 34-2 edge in first downs and a 603-80 differential in yards.
“I wouldn’t say we’re unsatisfied,” tight end Jeff Heuerman said. “There’s always room for improvement. We’re not perfect.”
Miller, the Big Ten’s offensive player of the year last season and a Heisman Trophy hopeful this year, missed his second game in a row with a sprained medial-collateral ligament in his left knee.
Meyer had said Miller was probable to play against the Rattlers, but he never put on his uniform.
It didn’t take long for this game to get out of control, with or without him.

Monday Morning
The dew on the grass was COLD this morning, really woke me up, what a great way to really wake up. The Ohio State Fair closed yesterday, a pro football game last night, the Fall season is starting early. Ohio State is already crowning itself a national champion contender .... a once despised coach is now a "football God" in Columbus .... until?
Monday morning, 8/5. First I want to say hello to who or whomever I am sharing this computer with. I got on around 8, everything was working fine, till around 9, and then THEY take over my computer, and it has a mind of its own. I am not paranoid, same scenario every morning around 9, they check out my computer. I think it became more noticeable when I changed my message on the answering machine:
"Hello, we are unable to take your call right now, please leave your name and number, or if you prefer, contact the White House in Washington, D C, they have all of our pertinent information on file there. Thank You"
THEY seem to be keeping our "pertinent" information up to date. I thank THEM for that. I think of Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts in that flick with where he was an ex CIA or something, everyone thought he was crazy with his accusations of government and intrigue, no one would listen, till they learned the truth.
Woke up with another "incident" on my mind that happened many years ago. I remember little of the incident, the who, when and why are gone. I had an occasion years ago, because everyone involved was busy, to be the first greeter of an exchange student. She was from South America, somewhere, spoke some English, so language was not a big problem. The think I remember, it was determined that she was hungry, so she and I got in my car, not sure why, but we ended up at McDonalds. The remarkable part of the story, she had never eaten a "Big Mack" or been to a McDonalds. I had the pleasure of buying and watching someone eat their first Big Mack. Until then, I thought everyone had eaten at McDonalds, not her.
In that vein, I always thought it would be neat to take some refugee child from some poor underprivileged country, just off the plane, and watch the expression on their face when they entered a super market, perhaps a Walmart, the expression would be priceless.
Monday morning always feels different than any other day of the week. A whole new week ahead, five new days, Saturday is a FREE day, and Sunday has a feeling all of its own.
Thank YOU for giving me another week .......................

TinC NO TRUTH TO THIS ... Imus may replace Gee
Rumors are abounding around Columbus, Ohio, after Dr. Gordon Gee announced his retirement, following his insulting remarks about football, the Catholic church, Notre Dame and Catholic Priests.
"Yes, I admit, that I have made derogatory comments about many things, but they have always been spelled correctly, and grammatically correct, and the timing is only coincidental. Urban and I talked about it recently at a conference I sponsored in the Grand Caymans, I forget what the conference was about, but we had a grand time.
The Board of Regents is presently looking for a replacement for Dr. Gee, and one member indicated that they were looking for someone who exhibits the same qualities as his predecessor, and one name surfaced that seemed to be the top candidate at this time.
"Don Imus is the frontrunner at this time," Harley Bruce, Communications Major at OSU and head server with the Campus Catering Company told a local Channel 10 TV sound coordinator as he was clearing dishes from the massive mahogany table where the meeting had been held.
"I heerd 'em, they sed it, reely I did, they sed he be good doin what ol Gee did,I heerd em, reely," Harley stated, and then followed that with some extended hand gestures and stated, "O .. H i ... oh, I forget, too many letters fur me, go bugs."
There is no truth to this, all made up, for my SPOOF site ......

OSU never fires, people do "spur of the moment" retirements
Gee indicated that he is leaving OSU because he has been offered a job by the producer of NCIS to be a "stand-in" double for David McCallum who plays Forensic Medical Specialist, "Ducky" Mallard. Gee stated that he had been a fan of the show for many years, and had actually used some of the procedures he had seen on the show to remove his foot from his mouth. "I will especially miss the fantastic expense account I had at OSU. It will be difficult spending all that money of my own, have not had to do that for many years, I will miss the world of acadaammia." He later revealed that he had received an offer from The Little Sisters of the Poor, but expressed concern over their intent.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State University president Gordon Gee announced his retirement Tuesday after he came under fire for jokingly referring to "those damn Catholics" at Notre Dame and poking fun at the academic quality of other schools.

The remarks were first reported last week by The Associated Press, and Ohio State at the time called them unacceptable and said it had placed Gee on a "remediation plan" to change his behavior.

Aw, common, at least two more .............
Can you imagine the backlash if a Republican politician, or even Obama made such a comment, or a VP of a large corporation, or a talk show host, OMG, they would be out on their ear, period, no second or third or fourth chance, as old "Foot in the mouth" GEE. My guess is that Coach Meyer laid the law down and wants him to stay. "Hey, I like him, he makes me laugh, he's cute, I want him to stay around, oh, and tell the guy who wrote that article it is "The Ohio State University ......." or comments something to that effect ...... jbd
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The president of Ohio State University has apologized to the Big Ten conference for “hurtful remarks” he made last year about some university athletic programs.
In a statement Sunday, Gordon Gee says he apologized for his “misguided attempt at humor” before the university’s Athletic Council in December. He says the Big Ten universities are “some of this country’s most highly accomplished research institutions” and he’s honored to lead a Big Ten school.
An Associated Press report last week revealed Gee said Notre Dame wasn't allowed to join the Big Ten because its leaders weren't good partners. He said its Roman Catholic priests were “holy hell” on days other than Sunday and joked “those damn Catholics” can’t be trusted.
He also questioned the academic integrity of schools in the Southeastern Conference.

I'm so ashamed .............. gee whiz
Highly educated, president of one of the largest universities in the country, makes over two million a year, and he makes statements like this .... something is wrong. He should be in therapy rather than a "remediation plan." And, being from Ohio, people wonder why I am not an OSU fan. I once was an avid fan, but incidents such as this, and many more over the years, have taken away my enthusiasm for the school.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The president of Ohio State University said Notre Dame never was invited to join the Big Ten because the university's priests are not good partners, joking that "those damn Catholics" can't be trusted, according to a recording of a meeting he attended late last year.
At the December meeting of the school's athletic council, Gordon Gee also took shots at schools in the Southeastern Conference and the University of Louisville, according to the recording, obtained by The Associated Press under a public records request.
The university called the statements inappropriate and said Gee is undergoing a "remediation plan" because of the remarks.
Gee apologized in a statement released to the AP.
"The comments I made were just plain wrong, and in no way do they reflect what the university stands for," he said. "They were a poor attempt at humor and entirely inappropriate."
Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown said Gee has apologized to Notre Dame president John Jenkins.
"We find the remarks most regrettable, particularly regarding Father Joyce, who served Notre Dame and collegiate athletics so well and for so long. President Gee has contacted Father Jenkins to offer an apology that he has accepted," Notre Dame said in a statement.
Big Ten commissioner James Delany called Gee's comments "inappropriate" and said they don't represent the opinions of the conference.
Gee, who has taken heat previously for uncouth remarks, told members of the council that he negotiated with Notre Dame officials during his first term at Ohio State, which began more than two decades ago.
“The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week. You just can't trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that.”

"The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week," Gee said to laughter at the Dec. 5 meeting attended by athletic director Gene Smith and several other athletic department members, along with professors and students.

Gee, Gee, you've done it again ..........
The man makes $2.14 million a year, and he is undergoing a "remediation plan." What does that mean? He has been an embarrassment to the university on many occasions. He spends millions on travel around the world, he could run for president of the United States.

How can they condone conduct like this at OSU? Oh, yea, the athletic department scandal, I guess they are used to it in Columbus, Ohio. He resents the fact the football coach makes more money than he does.

Says a lot about OSU .............
The cause of a totally wasted successful season is honored at the stadium, how powerful is football on a college campus?
In what may be the perfect summation of college football today, former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel was celebrated Saturday during the Buckeyes' 26-21 victory over Michigan even though it was his breaking of NCAA rules that led to the program's current postseason ban. That sanction cost 12-0 Ohio State a spot in the Big Ten title game and perhaps a shot at a national championship.
If you'd think being responsible for such a mess would keep a person from the stadium, let alone being lifted in the air to the roaring delight of over 100,000 fans in attendance, well, you don't understand college football.

Nothing makes sense except this: losing is about the only thing that creates boos and pretty much nothing you can do will make you less popular than the NCAA rulebook.
Tressel was fired in May 2011, the fallout of a scandal in which the chief violation was his failure to report to his own bosses and the NCAA a reliable tip that some of his players were trading memorabilia for tattoos at a local parlor. The NCAA determined that eight players, including star quarterback Terrelle Pryor, were involved, receiving some $14,000 in cash and tattoos. PS - The Walmart foto is a fake.

Now they know WHY he came back.... $$$$$$$$
Ohio State University president E. Gordon Gee has reportedly charged millions of dollars in expenses on lavish parties and trips during his tenure.
According to Laura A. Bischoff of the Dayton Daily News, Gee has racked up $7.7 million in expenses—in addition to his $8.6 million in salary—since becoming president in 2007 in order “to travel the globe, throw parties, wine and dine donors, woo prospective faculty, hang out with students and staff and maintain a 9,600-square-foot mansion on 1.3 acres.”
And apparently, the university believes that this is not only permissible, but advisable. In a statement regarding its president’s spending, Ohio State said, "A significant proportion of President Gee’s time, travel and use of the university residence is devoted to resource-generation to support the work of our students and faculty,” via Bischoff’s report.
This rationale for the exorbitant spending is unacceptable from an institution that forced Jim Tressel to resign his post as head football coach and allowed five athletes to be suspended by the NCAA for trading memorabilia for tattoos.

Tressel at a Michigan Walmart TinC Article
Jim Tressel, the maligned ex head coach at Da Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio was recently spotted working as a greeter at a Walmart in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
A clause in his contract stipulated that each person entering the store be greeted with an "I'm Sorry," rather than the usual "Welcome to Walmart."
When management was asked if they felt he would honor that clause, they indicated that they were aware of his "respect" for clauses, and felt he would eventually resort to the usual Walmart greeting. They also indicated that they were in the process of acquiring a "vest" for him to wear, in maize and blue.
Oddly enough, his pay scale is higher than the store Manager, Bo Bruce, but Tress answered, when asked about it, "Hey, I'm used to that, I made more than the school President, and the Athletic Director, I'm used to being overpayed."
Prior to being hired, he told personnel management that he would not say "Go Blue" under any set of circumstances, and by the same token, he would not utter "Go Bucks" as customers entered the store.
This is an old post, but was asked to publish it again. It got a lot of hits on my Spoof site.

To Ohio State Fans
Urban Meyer is looking good, at this time, for Ohio State, but remember where he came from, and recruiting policies that were in effect down there. In the Big Ten there has always been an unwritten agreement between all the school that when a candidate makes a commitment to a school, it is hands off. Urban has ignored that.
He may field a better team, but he, and the downtrodden, maligned athletic department will take a lot of criticism at his "no holds barred" recruiting policy. The team may be better, but the school will lose a lot of respect around the league, and that's a shame.
Going from "overlooking" to "Shanghaiing." It may come back to haunt them. It would be nice to see them field a good OSU team again, one with NO controversy surrounding it. James, out in Oklahoma, I am wearing my OSU sweatshirt again, with a black armband, the armband is for Woody, I think he may still be turning in his grave. Time will tell.
