Jack LaLanne dies at 96

Jack LaLanne was prodding Americans to get off their couches and into the gym decades before it was cool. And he was still pumping iron and pushing fruits and vegetables decades past most Americans' retirement age.

He filmed some of his info-mercials at my son Dean's studio in New Jersey, and he was an advocate for Bragg's Pure Apple Cider Vinegar, and I know stated that he took some every day. I am a big advocate of that, and got the idea from Jack.

He has been a TV companion for  many years, watching his shows, and his info-mercials on TV. I was going back to New Jersey once to be there when he filming, but was unable to go back for some reason. I imagine my son has some nice memories of him.

He was an Icon for the aging ..... his info-mercials will be on forever though.

He published numerous books on fitness and hosted a fitness television show between 1951 and 1985.

LaLanne gained recognition for his success as a bodybuilder as well as for his prodigious feats of strength. He was inducted to the California Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
LaLanne wrote that as a boy he was addicted to sugar and junk food. He attacked his brother, attempted suicide, and tried to burn down his house. LaLanne later described himself as "a miserable  kid... It was like hell." At age 15, he heard health food pioneer Paul Bragg give a talk on health and nutrition. Bragg's message had a powerful influence on LaLanne, who decided to focus on his diet and exercise habits. He studied Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body and concentrated on bodybuilding and weightlifting.

LaLanne blamed overly processed foods for many health problems. He advocated a vegetarian diet, though he ate some fish himself.
