My Father, some thoughts.
How many Doctors today, would even visit a past patient, to pray with them, prior to having surgery done by another physician. He remembered her "physical appearance and symptoms" of her three other pregnancies, and knew something was wrong. He examined her, and delivered her a baby girl.
That borders on miraculous, when you think about it. One other comment. I doubt that ANY patient, ever saw him in anything but a suit, or shirt, tie, and his white "Doctors Jacket," or his scrubs at the hospital. My brother honeymooned out West, brought me back a pair of nice cowboy boots. He took them, and they stayed a Miami Valley Hospital, in the Delivery Room, and he wore them for each delivery. I never knew what happened to them.
He felt his "guardian angel" intervened in his life, at four times that he knew of.
As a child on the farm, he was waling through a forbidden field, a big board hog charged at him, and, for some reason, stopped just a few feet from him.
In the trenches in WWI, he left his post on a radio and went outside for a break. His buddies were playing poker at a makeshift table. He declined their offer and walked some distance away, for some quiet time. Then, a shell exploded in the middle of the table, killing all.
After his Army service, he was in Chicago, at a YMCA, struggling with a decision on whether or not to go through pre-med and Medical school, a struggle, or accept at offer from a "physical medicine" practitioner in his hometown who would assist him through school. He dropped to his knees, by his bed, and, almost instantly arose, his decision made. He and my Mom and Brother, later on, struggled through school and he graduated with honors from the University of Cincinnati Medical School, R. D. Dooley, M.D.
He and my Mom were driving from Dayton to Columbus to attend a medical meeting. They took a shortcut, a narrow two lane country road. Going over a hill, they were confronted with two semi trucks, not too far away. His natural instinct was to turn into a ditch. Something told him to stay in the middle. He did, the two trucks passed on either side.
I have learned of many things about him, since he passed, my respect and admiration grows. He will be thought of with great respect, on Fathers Day.
