COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus has pledged $150,000 more for the Presidents Cup, meaning taxpayers in central Ohio are contributing about $1 million to the golf event this week at Muirfield Village in Dublin.
The Columbus Dispatch reports the total public contribution rises above $1.2 million if an expected $100,000 county allotment and more in-kind contributions for police and security are included.
Columbus had agreed to spend $200,000 on the event and promised $150,000 more on Monday night. Suburban Dublin has pledged $350,000, mostly for security, traffic control and parking management. Franklin County committed to $150,000, and Delaware County is chipping in $35,000.
Officials in Columbus say the team competition between U.S. and international golfers provides good attention for the area and an estimated net income-tax revenue boost of more than $1 million.
