I used to live in Sparks, years ago, but these things can happen anywhere.
A student told the Reno Gazette-Journal newspaper that a student, wearing a Sparks Middle School uniform, had been pointing a gun at a teacher. The gunman shot the teacher after the teacher told him to put down the gun, the student, Kyle Nucum, 13, told the paper. "The teacher fell and everybody ran away," Kyle said. "We ran across the field to get somewhere safe, and while we were running we heard about four or five more gunshots." Police said the suspect in the shooting had been "neutralized," though it was not clear whether he was one of the two dead.
Two other boys were hospitalized in critical condition, and late in the morning, the hospital said that one of them was in serious condition and the other fair. Local NBC affiliate KRNV reported that the school had been cleared, and police urged parents to stay away from the school and directed them to go to a nearby school to pick up their children instead.
