I didn't mean to hit the rabbit

I was driving down Montgomery Road the other day, on my way to Wilkins Corners and I swerved to avoid hitting a rabbit, but I missed and hit the rabbit as it jumped in front of my car.

I am an animal lover, so I pulled over to the side of Montgomery Road and got out to see if I could help the rabbit.

But, unfortunately, the rabbit was beyond help.

I felt badly and was kneeling there staring at the dead rabbit, when a car pulled over and stopped.

A woman got out and said, "What's wrong?" she asked as she stepped out of her car.

I told her, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it."

"Don't worry, I know what to do." She went to the trunk of her car, and pulled out a spray can.

She then sprayed the contents of the can onto the limp rabbit.

Miraculously the rabbit came to life, jumped up, hopped down the road, and turned as if to wave at us.

When he got about 50 feet away the rabbit stopped, turned, waved and continued to hop down the road. After another 50 feet, he turned, and waved again. He continued to do this until it was out of sight. I was astonished.

I asked the woman, "What did you spray on that rabbit?"

She turned the can so that I could read the label.

It said: "Hair spray: Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanent wave."

A PATHETIC state of affairs in OHIO

IT IS A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS WHEN THE ONLY THING THAT CAN KEEP THE "SHIP OF STATE" AFLOAT IN OHIO IS ................... SLOT MACHINES .................. AND EXTORTION IS BEING USED BECAUSE THE GOVERNOR CAN'T HAVE HIS WAY ............

He knows that OHIO voters have always turned GAMBLING down, so he tried to RAM IT DOWN OUR THROATS and the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that it is subject to VOTER APPROVAL ...... so next ............. this...

If gambling is voted for in OHIO, what next, when that money runs out. Government is a BOTTOMLESS pit............ THEY will never have enough....................

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland on Wednesday proposed freezing income tax cuts for two years to fund education in the wake of a court decision that could halt his plan to put lottery slot machines at racetracks.

Strickland suggested postponing the final year of the overall 21 percent tax cut, raising about $850 million. The cuts were scheduled to be phased in over five years at a rate of 4.2 percent a year.

Last week, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the slot machine proposal is subject to voter approval, stopping the state's plans to place machines at horse racing tracks by May. Strickland had been counting on the slot machines to contribute about $850 million to help balance the two-year education budget.

The Italian Secret for a Long Marriage

At St. Mary's Catholic Church they have a weekly husbands marriage seminar.

hi5 VIRUS - BEWARE -VICIOUS .....

This is a copy of an EMail I got off of the internet ..... this has happened to me .... I did nothing but open the EMail from my daughter, inviting me .... it somehow got all my EMail addresses and started sending out EMails on ALL my addresses .... I DID NOTHING BUT OPEN, SO BE CAREFUL...........................

In the past few weeks, I have received a few messages from people thatI know, asking me to join their "network of friends" on such sites asRingo, Hi5 and Bebo. From what I understand, these sites offer you to hold your address book for you.

The idea is that each member keeps his own contact info up to date, effectively keeping your own address bookup to date.I also saw one such invitation (for Ringo) sent to a mailing list (andthe sender getting flamed for it shortly afterwards)In one case, out of curiosity, I clicked on the link provided (it wasfrom hi5).

The several-step form asked me for personal informationthat I did not want to provide, including the *password* for theHotmail address I had provided !The reason why hi5 wanted my Hotmail password was to "automaticallyimport my entire Hotmail address book to my hi5 account.

"That's where my curiosity reached its limit: I did not go any further. The person who initially sent me that invitation later told me that he had received the same invitation himself, had joined the hi5 network, and that hi5 then sent invitations to his entire address book without him even realizing it.

I then thought that the guy who sent the Ringo invitation to themailing list perhaps sent it unvoluntarily as well. What I'm getting at is, if these invitations "to join the network"really are sent without the members' consent (or knowledge), they share a lot of similarities with email-bornes viruses.

They would be viruses without a malicious payload (except for the flames you getfrom spamming your entire address book, and the fact that you hand out your Hotmail/Yahoo email password to a third party website).

This would then be like a virus that doesn't even require you to write a line of code: all you need is to invite a few people to "join thenetwork", and let the website do the rest.

THIS THING IS VICIOUS .... IT HAPPENED TO ME .... BEWARE ... hi5

YES, tomorrow is my Birthday .............

To ALL of you who have asked, YES, tomorrow is my BIRTHDAY, I will be 77.

Today, I got ONE card from dear friends in Florida, Pat and Jimmie. NOTHING from UPS or FEDEX or anyone else.

I have ONE shot of gin left in the bottle we bought a year ago, and we had some leftover DIP from a demo my wife did last weekend at Kroger's, so I am dipping and drinking that now, just to try to bolster up my spirits a bit. That will probably be our supper tonight. Chips and Dip.

With Obama at the helm, we are optimistic about the future, and from what I have read we really don't have to worry about our future. It will end, one way or another.

Right now, with all that is going on in this world, like Obama, and the rest of the country, we too, are concerned about where the Olympics will be. I really feel, that if Chicago gets the Olympics, it will settle all of the problems in the world. Plus, the voter registration records for Cook County would swell.

What a venue that would be for Obama, to sit on his throne, at the opening ceremony, with the whole world watching, and all the athletes parading by him, saluting, shouting, cheering. As he enters the stadium they could be playing and singing ..... "The King Is Coming" ... what a thrilling entrance that would be.

I am only writing all of this to let you all know, rather than writing individual EMails.

When I turned 70, and had NO money, other than SS and some we scraped together doing DEMOS at WalMart and Kroger's, and my affiliate website, which has made me $12.00 this year, it seems like my children and friends, forgot about me.

I put up websites, advertised on FACEBOOK and other means, but, still nothing happened. Perhaps tomorrow ...... there is always .............. tomorrow.

Tonight, the eve of my 77th birthday, the night of the first frost of the Fall in Central Ohio, seems like that always happens on my Birthday, will be the start of a new year for me.

Thanks, Pat and Jim for the card....

My appendics and I .... 60 years ago

Did we have health care back in the 30's and 40's? I had my appendix out in June, 1950, I am not sure how it got paid, I suppose my family paid for it. I don't even know if they had health care insurance then. I remember Blue Cross and Blue Shield, their home office was a rather small building in Columbus, Ohio.

I remember I had an ache in my stomach, my Dad, who was a Doctor, poked me, made a phone call, and took me to the hospital. He wanted a surgeon, Dr. Harry Houston, who Dad had known for man years, to do the operation. He had actually lived at our house for a short time while he was full filling his residency at Miami Valley Hospital, and he and Dad were old friends.

He was a Captain in the Navy, during the war, and was one of the most respected surgeons in the Navy. He worked on some high ranking officers, official and politicians while in the service.

My Dad trusted Harry, with his son.

Harry was a very busy surgeon, he had a tight Monday morning schedule. My pre-surgery preparation, due to the hospital being busy, was done in a large storage room, and my Dad did the prep work, shaving the area, etc. I still remember his shaking hand approaching my abdomen with that Gillette razor. It was different working on your own.

Harry sandwiched me in between operations, removed my appendix, my recovery room was a broom closet, and then I was taken back to my room. I think, then, I was in the hospital for a few days, recovering, which they don't do now.

I was taken home, recuperated a few days, and I remember my Dad taking out my stitches. I was lying on the couch in the living room. He removed them with an old Gillette blue blade and the tweezers out of the bathroom.

"This won't hurt," zip, zip, zip, zip, zip and it was all over.

I imagine today, I would need X-rays, Cat scans, much more sophisticated blood work, two or three specialists, the hospital chaplain would visit me, after I arrived at the hospital, and was driven to the door by the "Courtesy" Van, through all the shrubs and flowers surrounding the building.

I have no idea the cost, but I am sure it was very little, and this was a special case. My guess, a few hundred dollars.

Now, today, an example I found on the Internet, at Stanford Hospital, in 2008, an insurance bill shows: $515 for emergency service, $694 for diagnostics (probably the CT scans), $2486 for anesthesia, $2485 for the actual surgery procedure, and then of course, they put you in a room for at least one day or two, and room & board for that stay cost $41,194.

Now, the do a laproscopic procedure, very short stay. Here is one example I found.

My total bill is $24,417.28 for a routine appendectomy and very short hospital stay.

Technology is great, but comes at a VERY high price.

I wonder why medical costs are so high.

A little known Newark facility ....

A little known facility we have here in Newark, Shepherd Hill,, attracts patients from all over the country. Since 1985, it has acquired an outstanding reputation.

It is a behavioral health facility specializing in the treatment of chemically-dependent individuals.

Shepherd Hill offers a unique continuum of care from primary outpatient treatment through detoxification (inpatient treatment), day treatment, extended residential treatment, and aftercare. Family programs are available to family members and friends at all levels of care; they are strongly encouraged to participate.

The patients are encouraged to walk around the well manicured lawns, and a great deal of time and energy is utilized in caring for the many shrubs, trees and flowers that add to the aesthetic beauty of the facility.

You will see many signs, placed strategically around the grounds, that read, "Keep Off The Grass."

News Update ........

We have a small manufacturing plant not too far from us, and not too long ago we heard the sirens of the emergency squad heading in that direction.

They pride themselves in their good safety record, so it was an unusual occurrance to see the squad heading in that direction. They will have to change their "Safety" sign at the entrance to the plant.

We just turned on the radio to see if the accident was on the news, and we learned that the man who fell into the upholstery machine was fully recovered.

Way back in '43...................

Years ago, back in 1943, I was only eleven, my Mom and Dad and I took a trip to New York for a brief vacation.

Dad, the Doctor, had a patient in Dayton, an elderly woman, who was the Mother of Frank Stanton, an executive with CBS in New York. He had always told Dad, "When you come to New York, be sure to look me up."

We stayed at the Waldorf Hotel in New York, and saw all the sites. The Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, regular tourists.

Dad visited Mr. Stanton, was greeted warmly, and we were "fixed" up with some nice tickets. We saw "Oklahoma" which had just opened, and was an immediate "hit," got tickets to a Rangers hockey game, and some other Broadway plays. This was 1943 and tickets were not easy to come by.

On one of the days of our visit there, a group of chess enthusiasts had checked into the hotel, and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories, and the various strategies they had used to accomplish them and just chatting.

I recall getting off of the elevator, and seeing the manager come out of his office, and walk over to them, and he rather loudly asked them to disperse.

I remember a rather distinguished looking large gray haired man, in a brown suit, asking, "But why," he asked, as they moved off.

"Because," the manager said. "I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."

Old Jerry Havens

I had a good friend, many years ago, Jerry Havens, who was quite a jokester, loved having a good time, and was one of those persons who never forgot a birthday or a holiday. On September 30, every year, there would be a birthday card for me from Jerry, and always a Christmas Card, and occasionally on other holidays.

One year, Jerry sent different puns to ten friends on his list, in the hope that the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did.

A Story of Twins ..........

Years ago, a woman named Sarah Benton had twins, and gave them up for adoption.

One of them went to a family in Egypt, the Farouks, who named him 'Ahmal.'

The other went to a family in Spain, the Mendozas, and they name him 'Juan.'

Years later, Juan sent a picture of himself to his birth mother, Sarah Benton.

Upon receiving the picture, Sarah told her husband that she wished that she also had a picture of Ahmal.

Her husband replied, 'They're twins! Once you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal.'

What Next?

From: Rob Jessmer

This week, Democrats showed the lengths they are willing to go to in order to pass their big government, big spending agenda. The Democrat-controlled Massachusetts legislature, pressured by the Obama White House, passed a measure allowing the Democrat Governor to appoint a Senator rather than wait for the people to elect a Senator for a vacant seat - which was the existing law.

The Democrats' power play in Massachusetts has nothing to do with principle, and everything to do with politics. With their unpopular government-run health care bill on the brink of failure, Democrats in Washington desperately need another vote in the U.S. Senate, and it is clear that this Administration will stop at nothing to ram it through the Congress.

Some history

Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet.

He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath.

This made him ... a super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

An Ode to America

This, reportedly, was in a Romanian newspaper

~ An Ode to America ~

Why are Americans so united?

They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs.

On 9/11, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the Army, or the Secret Service that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about.

Instead the Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand. After the first moments of panic , they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing.

On every occasion, they started singing: 'God Bless America !' I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put into collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such way? Their land? Their history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace, I thought things over, I reached but only one conclusion... Only freedom can work such miracles.

A Craig's List Entry ....

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.

Date: 2009-05-27, 1:43 AM EST.

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment, I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket.

The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason.

My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 A CP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it! I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants.

I'm sure it was even worse walking bare footed since I made you leave your your shoes, cellphone, and wallet with me [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].

After I called your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done.

Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as four other people's in the gas station on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what's going on with that?

Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.

Remember, next time you might not be so lucky.. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,
Alex

P.S. Remember this motto...An armed society makes for a more civil society!

Oratory or Hypnotic Induction?

I thought this was interesting. Yesterday, I heard how many thousands of times he had used "I" in his speeches, did some research, and came up with this, and there is another interesting one, how many times he used "I" in his speech to school children recently.

Oratory—or hypnotic induction?

October 25th, 2008

Is Barack Obama a brilliant orator, captivating millions through his eloquence? Or is he deliberately using the techniques of neurolinguistic programming (NLP), a covert form of hypnosis developed by Milton Erickson, M.D.?

A fundamental tool of “conversational hypnosis” is pacing and leading—a way for the hypnotist to bypass the listener’s critical faculty by associating repeated statements that are unquestionably accurate with the message he wants to convey.

In his Denver acceptance speech, Obama used the phrases “that’s why I stand here tonight,” “now is the time,” and “this moment” 14 times. Paces are connected to the lead by words such as “and,” “as,” “because,” or “that is why.” For example, “we need change” (who could disagree?)…and…that is why I will be your next President.”

Techniques of trance induction include extra slow speech, rhythm, tonalities, vagueness, visual imagery, metaphor, and raising of emotion. Hypnotists often have patients count. In a speech after the primaries closed, Obama said: “Sixteen months have passed (paused)…Thousands (pause) of miles…(pause)…Millions of voices….”

Hypnotists call this a distraction technique: sending the dominant hemisphere on an assignment involving linguistic processes, thus opening the non dominant hemisphere to suggestion.

Hand gestures can be used as hypnotic anchors, or to aid in hypnotic command implantation. They can be difficult to distinguish from innocent gestures used for emphasis. Obama, however, uses some gestures extraordinarily often and for very specific words such as “believe” and “chose.” His characteristic thumb-and-forefinger gesture looks like a hand holding a pencil—as if you were in a voting booth. The gesture of pointing sends the subconscious message that a person in authority is giving a command.

Obama actually said at one time: “a light will shine down from somewhere, it will light upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will say to yourself, ‘I have to vote for Barack.’”

You will not choose to vote for Barack: you will “have to.” It is not a logical choice, but rather one directed by a mystical (subconscious) force. What purpose would a politician have for making such a statement? Obama used it only once. Perhaps he stopped either because he realized it was too obvious or because Hillary Clinton and John McCain ridiculed him for it.

Obama’s logo is noteworthy. It is always there, a small one in the middle of the podium, providing a point of visual fixation. Unlike other presidential logos, one looks through it, not at it. It might just be the letter “O,” but it also resembles a crystal ball, a favorite of hypnotists.

Obama is clearly having a powerful effect on people, especially young people and highly educated people—both considered to be especially susceptible to hypnosis. It is also interesting that many Jews are supporting a candidate who is endorsed by Hamas, Farakhan, Khalidi, and Iran.

While some believe that hypnosis is not real, others believe that it is very powerful, and very dangerous in the wrong hands. Dr. Erickson, father of modern hypnosis, was adamant that his techniques should only be used by physicians. In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in Leyra v. Denno that a confession obtained using hypnosis could not be used against the suspect in court.

Additional information:

Probably the most blatant example of Obama trying to mesmerize his audience and subconsciously coerce them to vote for him is addressed in the next excerpt from said document:

“a light will shine down from somewhere, it will light upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will say to yourself, “I have to vote for Barack”’

It was even made fun of in a McCain ad entitled “The One”, probably without any realization that he was serious, and actually attempting to use hypnosis In this statement, Obama went too far, too obviously, and was clearly overtly hypnotically programming his audience. Probably, he intended to use statements like this more often, and probably stopped either because he thought it was too obvious, or because he was ridiculed for this by Hillary and McCain, or both.

First, notice how voting for Obama is made absolutely compulsory with the words “have to” – precisely as a hypnotic command. He is not asking for our vote – he is telling us how we will vote.

Notice the language “light shining down”, and “it will light upon you” a description of some supernatural (subconscious) force. This statement by Obama leaves no doubt that he is using hypnosis – which a mysterious force shining down and causing you to say to yourself obviously is. It leaves no doubt that his mindset is on completely non-logical, but rather mystical/supernatural (subconscious) forces will be compelling people to vote for him. Why would a politician who logically convinces voters ever joke about something like this? What purpose would there possibly be for any politician ever saying that a mysterious force will guide you and you will “have to” vote for me? This is potentially his worst slip up.

I thought many did the same thing ....

We had some friends in the other evening, and one of them, after a trip to the bathroom, asked, "Why is that razor in a cup of something?"

For many years, I don't know when it started, or who told me about it, but I keep my razor, in a cup with some olive oil in it. The blades stay sharp for a very long time.

The Gillette 4 blade in their now, I have probably used for a month, and it is still going strong.

I have the one of the razors that vibrates, and after shaving, I rinse it good, shake it dry, put it down in the cup of olive oil, and let the vibrator run for a short time, to get oil between the blades, and it is ready for my next shave. I rinse it under hot water prior to shaving.

I don't shave every day, so I don't know how many shaves I actually get, but at the cost of replacements now days, it extends the life quite a bit, and the blades stay sharper. My guess is that there is a coating of oil on each new blade that disappears after the first use. This puts it back on.

I remember my old Gillette "blue blade" gave me a couple of weeks of good shaves, rather than a blade a day.

I suppose any good machine oil will do, I have just always used Olive Oil.

Do YOU Miss Me Yet?

Cute, regardless of your politics ...............!!!

OK, I am old, and I just woke up .......

I got an Email today, from Jim Madison, in Oklahoma. Who is Jim Madison, you say? Well, the Madison family is well known in Newark, Ohio. I knew his Dad, his Mom and his sisters.

I first met Jim, back in the late 60's, when I had the Draft House, not sure what happened, but he attached himself to the place, and to my family, and has been there ever since. He is like a son, to Marilyn and I, and a brother to Melissa and Brad.

We lost him for a number of years, he was doing a "walkabout," as Dundee would say, and then, we found him again in Oklahoma, and have kept in touch via Email, since then.

Well, I got an email from him this morning, and he mentioned that September 30, which is my birthday, is approaching. I immediately thought to myself, "A little early, but nice."

I decided to reply to his Email, but before doing so, moved my mouse pointer down to the lower right on my computer, to see what the date actually was. I was shocked to learn that today, was September 23, 2009. In the deep recesses of my mind, I had my birthday as coming up NEXT month. What we see and know, does not always register with the conscious mind. In retirement, day and date don't hold a lot of meaning, just days, so I don't forget to watch certain games on TV.

I have been known to put up a website, imploring people to send birthday cards, gifts, money for my birthday. Even put my Pay Pal address to make it easy to send money. It has always been futile, but good for laughs in the family. In my mind, I have been thinking about doing that, soon. But, now, I find out, it is only a week away and I won't have time to get it done and known to all, as I have in the past.

One really good thing came out of all of this. I thought I was already 77, but all of this discussion made me aware of the fact that I am only 76, and will be 77, not next month, as I thought, but next week. This is worse than setting the clock back or up and hour, this is years and months.

The bad news, for the family here, they weren't going to do anything next week, let it slide a month, and then let me know it was November, and let the whole thing slide by till next year.

Jim, in answer to your question, my address is 1002 Village Green Court, Newark, OH, 43055. My Pay Pal account is dooleysdiner@yahoo.com. I hope that answers all your questions ... Jim, thanks for the birthday wishes.

Plaxico Burress

NEW YORK (AP)—Former Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress apologized to his family and tearfully kissed his pregnant wife and young son goodbye Tuesday before he was led away to prison to begin serving a two-year sentence on a weapons charge.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think, for what he did, and as full as prisons are, that he should get this sentance. Put a monitor on his leg, let him stay home for the sentence, but not prison.

They are saying, because of his celebrity status, they might have to keep him in maximum security. Then leave him at home. Let him pay for his incarceration rather than the taxpayers.

I don't see where any purpose is served, other than he might get killed, and then his family can sue the state for something, by his being in prison. He made a dumb mistake, as I recall, he shot himself in the leg, that was probably punishment enough.

I doubt that he will ever carry a gun again, but his jail time, to me, not necessary. And, it costs the state a lot of money, and Plaxico is probably a multi-millionaire. In this case, I don't think the punishment fits the crime.

they might be on their own with the Muslims.

24. Praised Jimmy Carter's trip to Gaza where he sided with

Bloomberg: Daschle says, "Health care reform will not be pain
free. Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that

If this does not sufficiently raise your ire, just remember that
the President, Senators and Congressmen have their own special
gold plated health care plan which is guaranteed the remainder
of their lives and they are not subject to this new law if
they pass it..*

Precious Memories ..

I hope you know the tune to this hymn ...... here are the words, one of my favorite lines ..... "In the stillness, of the midnight" ...... read the words slowly, they are very meaningful..............

Precious memories, unseen angels,
Sent from somewhere to my soul;
How they linger, ever near me,
And the sacred past unfold.

Precious father, loving mother,
Fly across the lonely years;
And old homescenes of my childhood,
In fond memory appears.

In the stillness of the midnight,
Echoes from the past I hear;
Old time singing, gladness bringing,
From that lovely land somewhere.

As I travel on life's pathway,
Know not what the years may hold;
As I ponder, hope grows fonder,
Precious memories flood my soul.

Chorus
Precious memories, how they linger,
How they ever flood my soul;
In the stillness of the midnight,
Precous, sacred scenes unfold.

"In the stillness of the midnight" ..... I can visualize and feel the quiet, midnight is such a quiet time ..... there is too much noise today ..... no quiet places to go .... but if you think of the "stillness" ..... of the "midnight"
There is a "quiet" ....... within your soul ..... when you think of that...........
"In the stillness ........ of the midnight"

How Long Do We Have?

This is serious stuff here we must ALL consider if we want this country to survive. I think you may have read this before, but it is important enough to review. Read it and give some thought to it.

When the French Philosopher, Alexis de Tocqueville toured the United States right after the Civil War, He said 'Democracy will survive in the United States until politicians find they can buy the people's vote with the people's money', Interesting!

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?

This is the most interesting thing I've read in a long time. The sad thing about it, you can see it coming.

I have always heard about this democracy countdown. It is interesting to see it in print. God help us, not that we deserve it.
How Long Do We Have?

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

' The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;

2. From spiritual faith to great courage;

3. From courage to liberty;

4. From liberty to abundance;

5. From abundance to complacency;

6. From complacency to apathy;

7. From apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage'

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off variousforms of government welfare...' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

I know, too much, it's just a sore spot with me ...

Not supposed to do it, but I took this picture in the late 50's or early 60's, inside the Primmadonna in Reno. Cameras inside the casinos were a NO NO, this was taken early in the morning, graveyard shift and was the crew that I worked with. The "suit" in the middle went on to be one of Harrahs top casino managers, and managed a big Harrahs in Las Vegas. He passed away a few years ago. Have no idea whatever happened to the two dealers, both Jerry's. Both were good friends.

COLUMBUS, Ohio

Opponents of a proposal to allow casinos in Ohio's four largest cities are casting doubt about the issue that will go before voters this fall, including questioning how much tax revenue the gambling will bring the state.

But casino supporters say the opponents are out to confuse voters with unsubstantiated attacks and half-truths.

If approved this November, the proposed constitutional amendment would allow construction of casinos in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo.

Backers promise the creation of 34,000 new jobs in Ohio's struggling cities and $651 million in casino tax revenue.

The most recent disagreement between the two sides on Issue 3 centers on how much tax money the casinos will generate for counties, schools and cities. Under the proposal, the state would take a 33 percent off the top of the revenues and redistribute the money to Ohio's 88 counties.

Opponents, though, point out that the 33 percent tax on gross casino revenue is defined as the amount of money "exchanged for the purchase of chips, tokens, tickets, electronic cards or similar objects" minus total winnings. They say that leaves a hole by not including cash or coins that are simply fed into slot machines and video poker machines.

Rep. Lou Blessing, R-Cincinnati, an opponent of the casino plan, said at a Tuesday news conference that casino supporters have made it allowable to gamble with cash but do not stipulate that cash revenue be taxed.

"These casinos could run total cash games and the state of Ohio would receive no tax benefit. Period," he said.

Issue 3 spokesman Bob Tenenbaum said the proposed casinos would not use cash except to exchange for vouchers, and would be subject to taxes.

"Cash wagering is an anachronism," Tenenbaum said. "Nobody uses it."

Maybe things have changed since I worked in the casinos, but a customer walked up to the table, got a hundred in chips, and started wagering. That hundred went into a drop box and was counted at the end of a shift, in a counting room, locked, called FIRST COUNT. Are the games going to be such that you can only purchase coins or chips in one location, that basically is a cash register and keeps track of the transaction? The casinos kept track of their cash by the amount of "drop." That, plus other revenue from bars, slots, etc., was what they payed their tax on. Have to wonder what old Tenenbaum is getting out of this.

Casinos in OHIO ..... now is the time!!!!!

ATLANTIC CITY -- If the nation's second-largest gambling market was to have a good month this year, August would have been it: The rain finally stopped and visitors flocked to Atlantic City's 11 casinos.

But the dog days of August added up to another dismal month here, as revenue declined 16.3 percent from a year ago.

In a month that is traditionally one of the best for seaside resorts, all 11 casinos reported declines, ranging from 6.9 percent at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, to nearly 30 percent at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.

The casinos won $391.7 million in August. Slots brought in $276.1 million, down 14.6 percent, while table games brought in an additional $115.6 million, down 20.3 percent.

Ironically, the best performers last month were casinos that have struggled lately. The Tropicana is awaiting completion of a cut-rate bankruptcy court sale to a group led by billionaire Carl Icahn, which should close by the end of the year.

Resorts Atlantic City, which is seeking state approval to hand over ownership of its casino to its lenders because it can no longer pay its mortgage, was down just 7.8 percent in August.
A rare double-digit decline occurred at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, the traditional market leader, which was down 11.2 percent. The Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort was down 12.5 percent in August, but is still having the best year of any Atlantic City casino, down just 4 percent for all of 2009 so far.

The Showboat Casino Hotel was down 12.6 percent, Trump Marina Hotel Casino was down 15.3 percent, and Bally's Atlantic City was down 18.6 percent.

Harrah's Atlantic City was down 19.2 percent, and the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort, which also stopped paying its own mortgage in July, was down 19.8 percent.

Atlantic City is now in its third straight year of falling revenues due to the recession and out-of-state competition.

For the first eight months of the year, revenue is down 15.1 percent here, to $2.7 billion.

AND THEY SAY IN THE ADS ON TV ....... WE WILL MAKE A BILLION DOLLARS IN OHIO ..... AND THAT IS JUST OUR "PERCENTAGE" ............. I THINK SOMEONE IS FIGURING A BIT ON THE HIGH SIDE ...............I think the promises have been made, the payoffs done, so now, someone has to live up to their promises ... regardless of the economy.....A DEAL IS A DEAL ....Probably some new boats on Lake Erie, and a few new condos made available ....... I think the originators of those revenue estimates should take another look ... it ain't happening .....

But WE know how to do it in OHIO ....

WE, in OHIO, know it is a GOOD TIME to open casinos, in OHIO, we are going to make BILLIONS .................. yeah, right ...... Casinos, in OHIO .... people losing money is a good thing for OHIO. Nevada doesn't have the experience we do at the Lottery Commission......... yeah ... right.

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Nevada casinos won less than $873 million from gamblers in July, a 12.5 percent drop from the same month last year and the 19th straight month of year-over-year declines, the state Gaming Control Board reported Thursday.

In some areas of the state, July's casino win is the smallest reported in more than two decades, stark evidence that the recession is far from over for Nevada's tourism-dependent economy as gamblers keep money in their pockets.

"People who are coming in aren't spending as much," said Frank Streshley, Gaming Control Board analyst.

"In all aspects of the economy, people are holding on to their money," he said. "Those who do have disposable income, they're not spending at the levels they were in the last several years."

ASPIRIN BY THE BEDSIDE ...... UPDATE

I received this the other day from Bernie. It is similar to the one I wrote some time ago. I had my heart attack almost three years ago, with basically, no symptoms, I just did not look or feel good. Every night, by my bed, a shot glass with two aspirins and a bottle of water, with a loose cap (all I have to do is lift the cap off). I use the shot glass so I don't have to be concerned about a lid. I had more hits on that blog than any so far.........

Aspirin

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night, the reason: aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life". therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2. FYI, aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest, years. (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar.)

WHY ASPIRIN BY YOUR BED save lives .... It is important to always have ASPIRIN in the home!!!

Why have Aspirin by your bedside?

ABOUT HEART ATTACKS

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.

One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating, however these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

NOTE: There may be no pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up.

However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, IMMEDIATELY DISSOLVE TWO ASPIRINS IN YOUR MOUTH and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards, phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by and state "HEART ATTACK!!!" and that you have taken 2 ASPIRINS

Take a seat on a chair or sofa and wait for their arrival and ...... DO NOT LIE DOWN !!!

How the machine is oiled ...

Many years ago, and I doubt that things have changed much, casinos were used to "launder" money. What better way, no records, no cash registers, just money exchanging hands, and who gets "first count," the casinos.

Just imagine, owning a big restaurant, with no cash register. You count the money each night, well, you can see what might happen.

In Reno and Vegas, in those days, many, if not all, of the casinos were "affiliated" with a city, or an area. I do not profess to know all of the inner workings of how it all operated, I only speculated, and NEVER, asked any questions. You did your job, did what you were told, and always "looked the other way."

As a box man on a crap table, generally at the start of your shift, you signed the "receipt" from the drop (amount of money that the table took in, or dropped, with the paddle, into the money box) for the day or night before.

As a box man, you automatically kept a pretty accurate count of the money that got dropped, it was a force of habit. You kept track of how much a person "bought in," how much he walked away with, to keep in your head, how the table was doing for the shift.

If the floor boss came over, you could pretty well tell him that so and so lost or won, so much. It became a matter of routine, to keep a pretty accurate count of what was going on.

Occasionally, the amount on the "slip" would not reflect an accurate amount of the actual "drop." On a busy night, a substantial amount might be added. You just signed the slip, and went on with your business. How was I to know, I didn't do the actual counting of the money.

It was presumed, that the additional money came from someone, or somewhere, where there was a large amount of cash, unaccounted for, that needed a legitimate way to get back into circulation, without causing a lot of eyes to be raised.

It was pretty well known that this club was affiliated with Cleveland, that one with Chicago, etc. I have no idea of the workings of any of this, I know I just did my part, and signed on the dotted line when told to.

I never asked, "Why?"

I got promoted to a Floor Boss position, though.

New TV Commercial in Ohio

He is crying, for Ohio.

AFL-CIO, FOP, all the unions are getting behind the CASINO issue..... and .... they ask WHY? ..... insinuating that it is a GOOD thing for OHIO.

We all know WHY they are getting behind it.

It is UNION money that is being used to build the casinos.

It will be UNION contractors that build them.

It will be UNION employees that run them.

And they have the AUDACITY to run a commercial, asking, WHY?

They should ask - HOW can Ohio residents afford to LOSE BILLIONS of dollars in OHIO?

Some ad indicated that Ohio would benefit with a BILLION dollars. How much does that mean that residents actually lost, if the state only gets a small percentage?

Leaving your hard earned money in a CASINO is a GOOD thing for OHIO.

YES, it was illegal yesterday, and NO we did not want that element in Ohio, and NO, casinos are not a good thing ...... BUT ...... TODAY ...... NOW we like casinos because they are going to pay tax money, bring in more prostitution, ruin some Ohio families, skim off the top to support illegal activities in other states, add to offshore accounts of, well, we don't know, purchase politicians, grease certain palms, etc., etc., etc.

The Indians were right ....... "White man speak with forked tongue."

He may be crying too, NO Indian Casinos in Ohio. EVERYONE wants to own a casino, I wonder WHY?

Poor Tress, they don't like him anymore..

Bob Hunter, a columnist for The Columbus Dispatch, wrote in Tuesday's editions that angry Ohio State fans may want a new coach but no one talks about who that might be. He also brought up the subject of buying out Tressel's contract, which would pay Tressel more than $12 million through January 2013. Tongue in cheek, Hunter proposed those wanting to get rid of Tressel might want to circulate petitions to build a casino or two on campus so the coach and his biggest boosters, athletic director Gene Smith and Ohio State president Gordon Gee, all could be fired.

With the Buckeyes (1-1) preparing to play Toledo at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Saturday, the glow of that 2002 national championship game seems light years away.

Tressel said he has received critical e-mails, but said the fans' poison makes him feel sorry for them.

"When I read some of them I feel terrible for them because there's no way they're happy," he said. "They've got to be some of the most unhappy people in the world, and I feel bad because we just made them less happy, and I hate to be a part of making someone less happy. I mean, they're already miserable."

He is being payed over a million a year to coach the team, and to take criticism. He has been in over his head since he took the job. He has been lucky, how many games have they won by "squeaking by?" He is coaching in a job, at a University, where he is way in, over his head. He should still be coaching at the level he was in before his two "buddies" got him this job.

If his play calling is good, then I am also an expert, because I can call them before he does.

As one sports writer said, "He calls plays .... to not lose ..... rather than .... calling plays to win." Took most of the fans all these years to realize what they had coaching at THE Ohio State University ...... is that an arrogant name, or what? THE Jim Tressel is now on the hot seat at THE Ohio State University .... I would like to see him go so that I can take some of my allegiance back to Columbus.

When I say "GO Tress." ...... I really mean "GO.....................Tress."

I think he was destined to be a Baptist Minister anyway, may now he can.

When and How did we become so concerned with DEHYDRATION

I spent over an hour this morning, in a waiting room at Riverside Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio, waiting for my wife to have a test run. So I sat in one of their many living room type waiting areas, people watching.

Two things were apparent. ONE, everyone wears tennis shoes of some sort. A few were wearing those cheap looking plastic things that they say are so comfortable, but really look pretty trashy. TWO, two out of three are carrying a water bottle of some kind, apparenly concerned about dehydration. Years ago, we played outside all day, without a drink of water. Water breaks at work, were just an excuse to get away from your desk for a short time.

Then, some genius, decided to put water in a pop bottle and sell it. Was he stupid, or what? Now, everyone carries that bottle around.

Some were carrying the clear plastic bottle, that is supposed to ruin your health, a few had a reusable type, and I had to wonder, what kind of water is in that reusable bottle. Did they just pour water from their plastic bottle, into a reusable plastic bottle, or just use tap water, and if so, why.

A few had a reusable bottle with a large plastic ring, that they used to carry the bottle, dangling, from their little finger. I guess their little finger does not do a lot, so let it carry the water.

Oxygen, I can see a need for, but not water. One hospital employee, filled her clear plastic bottle, with water from the water fountain. Maybe that was just her security blanket or something.

My next invention, a tennis shoe, with a hollow sole, and a cap, so you can fill it with water. When you get thirsty, and I assume all of them do, take your shoe off, remove the cap, and take a swig.

The water stored in the rubber sole would be less harmful than water stored in plastic.

I admit it, I am a leg man, a nice dress or skirt, a nice pair of legs, that works for me.

At Riverside Hospital, this morning, between 10:20 and 11:30 in the GREEN area of the hospital, they have Blue, Green, Red areas, and if you ever get out of your color area, you could be lost for days, there were no skirts, all slacks, and hospital pants, and of course, water bottles and tennis shoes.

One more on Serena

The more I hear, I think Serena knew her loss was inevitable, and she did what she did, to keep her opponent, Kim Clijsters from enjoying her victory ..... even though Serena lost, she basked in the joy, of not having to look at her opponent enjoy the fruits of her victory.

Serena walked off the court to a stunned silence, not having to listen to the well deserved cheers, for her opponent.

She said that tempers were a part of the game, one of her idols, John McEnroe, notorious for his temper, I think his worst was, "You can't be serious," thank God she didn't idolize Jeffry Dahmer.

Seems like everyone agrees, she should come out TODAY, with a public apology. My guess is that she won't. If you don't have any class on Saturday night, you won't have it on Sunday.

Now I have another good reason not to like the Miami Dolphins.

Serena ..... taking the wrong way out

I saw the outburst of Serena Williams last night, and I think we saw another spoiled millionaire athlete, who could not stand defeat, take another way out. She could blame the linesman, her temper, everyone and everybody but herself. I really thought she was a pathetic, wearing out, old athlete, who could not handle defeat.

Simple, she had been outplayed, she felt she was going to get beat, so she took it out on the linesman, not herself. Regardless of the call, she should not have reacted in the way she did.

I must admit I was rather stunned by it. It goes down in my "tragic ends." I remember when Woody Hayes struck the football player, and I remember the brawl between the Ohio State basketball team, and the team from Minnesota, and now, Serena attacking the linesman. It tarnishes all of her accomplishments. Makes John McEnroe look like a choirboy.

It was one of the worst displays of poor sportsmanship I have ever seen.

Gambling fever is spreading ... Rabbit Races in Ohio

The photograph to the right shows three interested spectators at a recent workout at the Harerasin Farm near Chillicothe.

The remnants of the Adena Tribe, near Chillicothe, have applied for a license with the Ohio State Gaming Commission, to build and operate a rabbit racing track on Carlisle Hill in Chillicothe, Ohio.

A representative of the Harerasin Farm, indicated that they had been raising and training racing rabbits for a number of years, and felt that as the sport increased in popularity a number of other breeders would start breeding, raising and training the purebred racing rabbits.

The quarter mile lighted track would have a seating capacity of 75,000. A spokesman for the Adena Tribe, Chief Optimisen stated, "We getum the idea from the movie 'Field of Dreams,' we think if we build it, they will come."

In rabbit racing, a fake greyhound dog moves quickly around the oval track, and as the rabbits are let out, they chase the fake stuffed dog. At this point in time, some of the rabbits are still frightened by the fake dog, and run in the opposite direction. Training is still underway. A finish line is built at both ends of the track to enable race enthusiasts to not only bet on the rabbit to win, place, or show, but in what direction it will run. This is just another added dimension to Rabbit Racing.

Chief Optimisen was also quoted as saying, "We hope to eventually open a casino on the infield, and include open air seating on the roof to enjoy the rabbit races.

The opening of the track has been enthusiastically endorsed by a number of state associations who expect to be rewarded with their share of the tax revenue collected from the casino as well as the parimutuel betting.

What goes on in Ohio, stays in Ohio

A movement is underway in Ohio to legalize prostitution. One politician was overheard saying, "Hell, if we can tax it, then let's do it."

Apparently, Ohio residents are seeking sex in other states, such as Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia and Kentucky. One union official was quoted as saying, "I think it is time that prostitution is legalized, so that tax revenue from these acts can filter back into the infrastructure, and help relieve some of the tax burden in our municipalities, rebuild our police and fire departments, much as the acts themselves relieve the participating tax payers."

Ohio will then be one of two states offering legalized gambling and prostitution.

To add additional revenue to the state treasury, the state of Ohio is going to form their own construction business, to bid on and build the casinos and houses of ill repute, but also form the OCOA, Ohio Casino Owners Association, which will actually fund and run the casinos and brothels, and the OCABO Union, the Ohio Casino and Brothel Owners Union, which will service all of the employees in the casinos and brothels.

Now, the State of Ohio will own the casinos and brothels in the State, as well as control the unions in both fields. One Representative from around Cleveland stated, "If we own and run both businesses, if we do some "creative accounting" we will still be keeping the money in the state. Perhaps some of the "funding" can go to helping politicians around the state, defray some of their expenses, and not go out of state and perhaps even out of the country to off-shore banks."

Newark, Ohio, years ago, was known as "Little Cicero," named after the notorious city in Illinois. Now, perhaps the whole state can take on that name, and also afford us of the association with Illinois, which could be beneficial under this administration. If the association blossomed, we could then start putting our "deceased" citizens on the Cook county voter rolls.

An overall revue of this plan reveals, revenue from the casinos, revenue from prostitution, and a strong tie to Washington. It is definitely a WIN/WIN situation for the State of Ohio.

"What goes on in Ohio, stays in Ohio."

Casinos in Ohio .... cops agree?????

This is hard to believe, I wonder what it cost?

'Cops for Casinos': Ohio Fraternal Order of Police Announces Support for
Casino Ballot Issue

Next step, if Organized Crime, agrees to keep accurate records and books, and pays taxes on their revenue, then, the FOP will support Organized Crime in Ohio.

Casinos, where people lose their hard earned money, where you can win an unlimited amount of money, where you can lose all your money, where you can become addicted to gambling, are good for Ohio.

Jobs are created, people make money. Does anyone know where this money comes from. OH, that's right, PEOPLE LOSING MONEY. How can anyone, or any organization, think that it is GOOD, for people to lose money.

Perhaps the FOP thinks the additional workload will be good for them. What all follows casinos. Crime, prostitution, just to name a few. And, WHO, in Ohio, is qualified to oversee the regulation of casinos? It takes a thief to catch a thief. In my opinion, and I spent a number of years in the industry, millions of dollars will be hidden and laundered.

Who is going to support these casinos, who's very existence depends on customers losing their money. Are we in SLOW economic times, YES. Are jobs becoming increasingly harder to get, YES. Are casinos, presently in operation, having a hard economic time, YES. OH, so let's build casinos in Ohio, because we have a lot of experience, and know what we are doing.

WHERE does the money come from, to build expensive casinos. Perhaps PTA groups, or church groups, or perhaps organizations with laundered money, or unions, or the underworld, as it is referred to.

Amazing, when NO revenue was being collected by politicians and municipalities, it was run out of town, "We don't want that underworld element around here."

Now, how much revenue will the state take in? How much, OOOOHHHHHHH it is a good thing. And will the casinos be UNIONIZED, of course. So, we have, a casino, possibly being built with UNION money, putting thousands to work, paying their UNION DUES.

They advertise, 34,000 jobs for Ohioans. Ohio is full of dealers, boxmen, floor bosses, casino managers, experienced casino workers, well, maybe dishwashers and waitresses.

It would be interesting to know how many of the FOP members agree with that endorsement. I just cannot imagine any rational thinking person, agreeing that an industry that feeds on people losing money, is good for anything.

Remember, GAMBLING was a bad thing until someone saw the potential for tax dollars. Now, the excuse, "Tax dollars are scarce," so don't tax the people more, just steal the money from them. Remember this, "A gambling license is a license to steal." That is why it is called "gambling."

I will not say another word, if they just let me control the licensing, or get "first count" in the casino counting rooms. Jobs that Madoff dreamed of.

When will the war end?

December 7, 1941 an event started a war. We fought the war, and it ended, August 8, 1945.

September 11, 2001 an event signaled a war was waging, will it ever end?

9/11

9/11 will never be forgotten, it is in our vocabulary. 12/7 is not remembered, but December Seventh is. If someone mentioned September eleven, might take some time to realize what happened on that day, but nine/eleven, vivid memory. Not sure if I remember the year.

I don't remember who made the comment, but I remember shortly after 2000 arrived, someone made the comment, "This will be the age of terrorism." How right he was. I don't think our lives have ever been the same since that day. So many things changed.

I felt too, that the Bush administration, whether you liked them or not, agreed or disagreed with their policy, were waging a war against terrorism. I think we all slept better.

With the change in administration, and many questions that arose, I am much more concerned.

I receive Emails from both the Democratic and the Republican parties. I have some questions about some of the policies we are seeing put in to effect. I personally don't feel as comfortable voicing opinions here, as I did a year ago.

For the first time, even though this is not a loud voice, and certainly does not have a tremendous readership, I am concerned about it being read by the "wrong" people. I have never felt that emotion, concern about my opinions, before.

I am reluctant to make "unpopular" comments or observations, because I am not sure what all is happening in this country anymore. I am more inclined to stay in the shadows.

Maybe it is my advanced age, but I am not as "comfortable" as I used to be. I don't feel as "protected" as I once was.

Today concerns me, as FDR said about December 7, 1941, “A Date Which Will Live in Infamy." Little did he know or could he foresee, and we have not seen the last of it.

Hopefully, nothing will happen today to "celebrate" the event.

John Greenman

I don't know why, but the last few days, John Greenman has been on my mind.

John lived on Burt Lake in Northern Michigan, and he had a log cabin store on Greenman's Point. I remember him from back in the 30's and 40's when we used to vacation at Burt Lake.

It was very rustic in those days, and his store was a meeting place for all the vacationers, the locals, and the Indians in the area.

John was a true pioneer, or a man of the North. He was a big man and generally had a cigar in his mouth, a Rum Soaked Crook. He sold them at his store, in a cedar box. That cigar was the "fisherman's cigar of choice."

Every year my Dad would buy a box of them and I can still smell that aroma today.

There were pictures hanging on the wall of the store, pictures of when John first settled at the lake. There were pictures of him "sawing" the ice in the wintertime, ice blocks that were stored in his ice house, and were used for refrigeration for the store, his house, and all the summer homes in the area. There was electricity, but refrigerators had not made their way that far North yet, just icebox's, and we used John Greenman's ice.

John had built their home with stones from the lake, and I still remember the aroma in that house. It was always cool, and a lot of the interior was wood, Pine, Cedar and Birch, and a Northern Michigan aroma. I still get an occasional whiff of something that brings back all those memories.

The store also served as a bar, and on Saturday night it became the meeting place for the locals. I think most were a mixed breed of Indian and Eskimo and Scandanavian. It was remote. In the 40's, there was a German POW camp not too far away.

My Mother would only stay so long there on Saturday night, she was opposed to bars and drinking, she was a PK, (Preacher's Kid) but we would sit and watch for a little while till things got a little rowdy.

The locals would drink beer and eat sardines and crackers, they would go through cans and cans of sardines. They knew John Greenman's rules, and he ruled with a very iron fist. If someone knew they had done something wrong, or something that John did not like, they would just get up and leave. I remember a nod or a slight gesture from John Greenman, signified departure for the evening.

You didn't want to get on his wrong side, or get thrown out, there was no place else to go.

One of the vacationers and cabin owners at the time was a John Hopkins, or Hoppy as he was known eventually became a year-round resident, and bought the store and turned it in to a regular tavern. It is still there, known as Hoppies.

A visit to Michigan for me, which are becoming few and far between, always includes a visit to Burt Lake, to see John Greenman's stone house, to take that drive down by the cabins, some of which we rented, a trip back to the boatwell, where the Jessidean used to be kept, and a visit to Hoppies, and a "walk down memory lane."

Is it just because we are old, or what?

We have lived in this apartment complex now for probably six years. We pay our rent on time, rarely call maintenance, I buy and change my own furnace filters. Our oven controller has not worked since we moved in, one of five things that they were going to do. That was no problem, we don't use the oven.

A few years ago, we got a letter from the landlord, "evicted if we don't pay in a few days." We called, "Oh, we credited your amount to another Dooley that lives here."

Then a year or so later, another eviction notice. "We didn't receive your check in the mail." So, we took them up another one and received their promise, "If it shows up, we will hold on to it and see that you get it back."

In a couple of days, a call from the bank, "Overdrawn."

Then another eviction notice. They had deposited that check to the other Dooley, after accusing us of not sending the check. When we showed them where THEY had cashed the check, "Oh, we will bring a check right out to you."

Now, we got a letter from them a few days ago, "You owe us $175 from FEBRUARY." This is SEPTEMBER.

So, we showed them the letter we had received from THEM, indicating a "Credit Balance, so pay this amount." Which we did.

Next day, and still have not heard back from them. I am thankful my wife holds on to things, it is so satisfying to be able to back things up.

A few days ago, we ordered a new TV from Dell, and put it on our Dell Account.

Got an immediate Acknowledgement from Dell, order accepted, you should receive on 9/11/09. (The 9/11 should have given me a hint of a disaster ahead.)

Got a call today, from Dell, your order cannot be shipped, there is a problem with your account, (Press ONE to talk with a representative) which I did.

"Yeeeesssss, how maaaaaay I Hep you?"

A ten minute explanation, to someone in India was useless.

"Peeerhaps yu shuld taaawwwlk weeth sumone eeeen cuuustameer ssurveece."

So my wife, after pushing I don't know how many numbers on the phone, chats with customer service for a while, and hands me the phone to verify who I am. I have been receiving EMails from them for many years, we have ordered a number of items from them over the years, and they wanted me to verify my Email address, which they had as my wife's, and one she had used ten years ago.

Well, the problem is, your last payment, due to the holiday, was a day late, and we added a $25 late fee, which made your payment, .............. TWO dollars short. Can you send us the $2.00?

"OK, good, we will change your EMail address, and ship out your TV, thanks for being a Dell customer, is there anything else we can do for you today?"

I told her I hoped the two dollars would keep Dell afloat, after a few other things which expressed my bewilderment at the whole situation, and which she really didn't want to hear.

Blame it all on the computer, and Labor Day and progress and whatever else, but no one will really care.

Seniors Health Care Bill Of Rights

We need a Seniors’ Health Care Bill Of Rights that will:

•PROTECT MEDICARE AND NOT CUT IT IN THE NAME OF HEALTH CARE REFORM: President Obama and Congressional Democrats are promoting a government-run health care experiment that will cut over $500 billion from Medicare to be used to pay for their plan. Medicare should not be raided to pay for another entitlement.

•PROHIBIT GOVERNMENT FROM GETTING BETWEEN SENIORS AND THEIR DOCTORS: The Democrats’ government-run health care experiment will give patients less power to control their own medical decisions, and create government boards that would decide what treatments would or wouldn’t be funded. Republicans believe in patient-centered reforms that put the priorities of seniors before government.

PROHIBIT EFFORTS TO RATION HEALTH CARE BASED ON AGE: The Democrats’ government-run health care experiment would set up a “comparative effectiveness research commission” where health care treatment decisions could be limited based on a patient’s age. Republicans believe that health care decisions are best left up to seniors and their doctors.

PREVENT GOVERNMENT FROM INTERFERING WITH END-OF-LIFE CARE DISCUSSIONS: The Democrats’ government-run health care experiment would have seniors meet with a doctor to discuss end-of-life care that could mean limiting treatment. Republicans believe that government should not interfere with end-of-life care discussions between a patient and a doctor.

•ENSURE SENIORS CAN KEEP THEIR CURRENT COVERAGE:
As Democrats continue to propose steep cuts to Medicare in order to pay for their government-run health care experiment, these cuts threaten millions of seniors with being forced from their current Medicare Advantage plans. Republicans believe that seniors should not be targeted by a government-run health care bill and forced out of their current Medicare coverage.

•PROTECT VETERANS BY PRESERVING TRICARE AND OTHER BENEFIT PROGRAMS FOR MILITARY FAMILIES:
Democrats recently proposed raising veterans’ costs for the Tricare For Life program that many veterans rely on for treatment. Republicans oppose increasing the burden on our veterans and believe America should honor our promises to them.

The Battle for Talk Radio

Powerful Foes Want to End the Gabfest

The enemies of talk radio are firmly in control of the White House and Congress. Sen. Chuck Schumer and his fellow Democrats are promising an all-out attack on talk radio.

With a new "Fairness Doctrine" backed by an Obama White House, political talk, as we know it, will end.

If these forces of darkness win, Rush, Imus, Hannity, Savage, Beck, and dozens of other major hosts will be muzzled by using federal regulations to control political talk.

So, what's their plan of attack?

As Newsmax magazine reveals in its special report, "The Battle for Talk Radio," leading liberals in Congress, the Democratic presidential candidates, and even some Republicans speak openly of their plans to end conservative talk radio using federal regulations.

Their weapon: a revived Fairness Doctrine, which would once again require stations to air divergent points of view — a clever ruse that makes station owners leery of airing controversial talk-radio hosts fearing law suits and federal sanctions.

With a new Fairness Doctrine, you could see many top conservative radio hosts canned.

I wonder where this happened before?

Looking the other way

Are we being drawn away from some very important issues, to concentrate on some petty, immaterial issues with really no substance?

We get sidetracked by Olbermann and Glenn Beck ..... bloggers are getting more attention than terrorism. Radio talk shows, their hosts and their ratings are becoming more important than the wars we are involved in. The "hosts" have taken on an importance, they have credability ...... just because THEY TALK.

Whether you like it or not, a radio personality is the head of one of our two important political parties.

Well, I guess the qualification are the same to be on the radio as they are to become president of the United States.

Blogs give some an opportunity to vent their opinions, with or without facts. TV "news" shows, slant to either the left or the right. No one does, "just the news" anymore, they are propaganda arms for political parties. Where is, and who, speaks the truth, anymore?

I remember, many years ago, in regards to Japan and Germany, the question was raised, "How could that all happen?" Especially the Jewish situation in Germany, "How could THEY let that happen?"

THEY didn't know, because they were afraid, or they looked the other way, the door was not open, to questions. By the time realization took place, it was too late. Hind sight.

In the future, what is our "hind sight" going to reveal?

It scares me!

Hey kids, it's Obama time ......

The President's speech to the school children, controversial to say the least.

Locally, a number of schools have decided not to air the speech.

Columbus Schools, make it mandatory. I wonder, the Columbus schools superintendent is a black woman. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Past President's have addressed schools, I don't know if they raised this much controversy or not. I was out of school and didn't even know they addressed the children, so I cannot comment.

A slight majority of the country voted Obama in, now, they don't want him talking with their children, interesting. Is it a drop in his popularity, or a realization of what his agenda might actually be.

This comes on the heels of a seeping out of information, that non-Obama-supporter car dealers, during the recent "house cleaning," were the first to go. When they starting closing down car dealers across the country, I thought it was for economic reasons, now, we find out it was for retaliation. One of the reasons so many dealers were closed, not many of them were Obama supporters.

I am concerned that the present administrations focus is on "retaliation," and getting rid of "non-believers," rather than the more important world crisis situations that we are confronted with.

I think there are some issues concerning this country that are more important than one mans image.

Our country is being over run. As a white male U.S. American citizen, I am now a minority. Our economy is running amok. When an athlete is worth fifty million dollars, to play a game, and a school teachers has to work two jobs to survive, something is wrong.

We are spinning out of control.

So why, really, is it so controversial, when the President of the United States, wants to chat with our school children? I wonder what his purpose really is?????
Someone, somewhere, knows something that I don't.

Obama and the kids

I wonder what all the concern is about Obama talking and marketing his ideas with young schoolchildren.

It certainly didn't work for McDonalds, oh, yes, I guess it did.

Maybe that is where he got the idea, and look what it did for McDonalds.

He is looking ahead, much like, if you train, from birth, young children that suicide bombing is a good thing..................

"Please, put the bomb on me."

Don T. Worry-Healthcare, OR LACK OF IT

Did you know? Under proposed health care law you:

Will receive whatever medical treatment a government “commission” decides.

Will be forced to allow the government real time access to your bank accounts so they can do electronic fund transfers with your money.

Don T. says IT IS TIME TO WORRY

OSU - Navy

I had not been to an Ohio State football game for a number of years, till yesterday.

Near the stadium, where some of the crowd gathered, reminds you of a war zone. Every branch of police is there, all types of security, police dogs, police on horses, riot squads and various types of military vehicles.

They had 105 thousand plus at the game, many more outside the stadium, tailgating and watching the game on TV, and I don't know how many policemen. Football Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.

It was a patriotic day. They played Navy. They payed tribute to all service people, everywhere. The two teams entered the field, together, so that the crowd roar was the same for both teams. I doubt that has ever been done before. They may have started a tradition that will follow all of the Service Academy's. A salute for those who have served as well as the Academy players, who will serve.

I am a Korean Veteran. To be on the safe side, I wore an Ohio State shirt, with my son's USS ELROD hat. I had a number of people thank me for my service, and one naval officer gave me a half wave, half salute. I have never played the veteran card before, but I did feel like a veteran, yesterday. I think I am going to buy a Korean War Veteran hat and start wearing that.

Navy did not return the favor, they almost upset the Buckeyes.

Tiger Woods, suppressed speech

If you are not a fan of Tiger Woods, this will probably change your mind.

Tiger Woods is a Highly Educated Individual who was properly raised and taught to be his own man by an educated Mother and Father.

You can readily see that Tiger Woods listened to his parents and remains very proud of them both.

Many citizens are not aware of the following, which is the reason for me reproducing this.

A COPY OF HIS SPEECH AT THE 2009 INAUGURATION

Tiger Woods received a special invitation to speak at the Obama inauguration.

His inviters were stunned, shocked when he did not deliver the message they expected.

A brief read and you will understand why the media swept Woods' remarks under the rug with no further ado and why the liberal left of our American society was again displeased with Tiger.

His speech was entitled "You'll Never Walk Alone"

[text is word-for-word as posted on Tiger's web site]

"I grew up in a military family - and my role models in life were my Mom and Dad, Lt. Colonel Earl Woods. My dad was a Special Forces operator and many nights friends would visit our home. They represented every branch of the service, and every rank.

In my Dad, and in those guests, I saw first hand the dedication and commitment of those who serve. They come from every walk of life; from every part of our country.

Time and again, across generations, they have defended our safety in the dark of night and far from home.

Each day -- and particularly on this historic day -- we honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and protect our freedom. They travel to the dangerous corners of the world, and we must remember that for every person who is in uniform, there are families who wait for them to come home safely.

I am honored that the military is such an important part, not just of my personal life, but of my professional one as well. The golf tournament we do each year here in Washington is a testament to those unsung heroes.

I am the son of a man who dedicated his life to his country, family and the military, and I am a better person for it.

In the summer of 1864, Abraham Lincoln, the man at whose memorial we stand, spoke to the 164th Ohio Regiment and said 'I am greatly obliged to you, and to all who have come forward at the call of their country.'

Just as they have stood tall for our country - we must always stand by and support the men and women in uniform and their families.

Thank you, and it is now my pleasure to introduce the US Naval Glee Club ..."

Tiger Woods' 2-minute, 5-second tribute to the our nation's military was delivered January 18th at the Inaugural Celebration in Washington, DC.

He had been subjected to intense pressure to attend and offer remarks. Especially so by liberals who have demeaned and criticized him for a decade for not joining their ranks.

Yet, at the Lincoln Memorial, instead of paying homage to Barack Obama, Tiger paid tribute to our soldiers. Not once did Tiger mention Obama, the inauguration or the new administration.

Understanding that expressing his love for America and his appreciation for our military men and women would disappoint the national news media and the liberal left, he did what he thought was best for the people of our country.

But Tiger, being is his own man, just as his father taught him to be his own man.

Somewhere over that cold, gray Washington sky, Colonel Earl Woods was smiling down on his beloved son.

What's that you say?You did not previously know what Tiger said? You did not see a video clip of him speaking on any national television network?

You did not see a photo of Tiger at the Lincoln Memorial offering his remarks honoring our military.

You did not read a story in the NY Times?

His appearance at the Inaugural Celebration had been widely hailed and promoted in advance by the Obama inaugural organizers ... yet January 18 when he came and spoke ... afterwards, a black out.

If you are as tired of the biased, hypocritical, liberal media as I am, please send this link on to your friends. Thanks

Don T. Worry

I saw a neat sign today ........ in front of a church.

Don T. Worry

They forgot the apostrophe and capitalized the T with the period. Naturally, it was supposed to be Don't Worry.

I thought, what a great name, Don T. Worry.

Great name for a contributor to this column, along with Justin Other Smith.

Have not heard from Justin for a while. This time of year they get all their money from the government, for not raising crops. Justin finally got approval to NOT raise marijuana. He got twice as much as he would have for not raising corn. He knows how to play the game pretty well.

They live on the county, all their medical payed for, they own their own farm, but they get $1200 a month to pay themselves rent, another $400 for food another $1000 or so for their kids, plus all they get from the government for not raising crops.

He also got $16,000 from the Bureau of Land Management to not put in a pond, and is working on a program to get paid monthly to not stock the pond with fish. He recently told them he wanted to not raise fresh water shrimp, and is negotiating with them on the amount he will receive.

He even figured out, that if he would put the pond in, it would drain approximately 7000 acres of southern Ohio rolling hills, so the Department of Engineers is debating on the amount of Maritime Insurance he would have to purchase if he did put the pond in.

They have flown out a team of engineers and surveyors, and and GPS Survey Team, to evaluate the situation. It looks like he is going to settle for a large amount of money, to buy insurance, on a pond they are paying him not to put in.

Justin has already applied to the Obama administration, for a large grant to establish a Center for Voter Enlightenment in Southeastern Ohio. They have been given a partial approval if they agree to use courses and literature supplied by the Obama Administration.

There is also a stipulation that all IN SCHOOL conferences by the Obama Administration be aired, and attended to by all those who are enrolled in the VEISO.
