When and How did we become so concerned with DEHYDRATION

I spent over an hour this morning, in a waiting room at Riverside Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio, waiting for my wife to have a test run. So I sat in one of their many living room type waiting areas, people watching.

Two things were apparent. ONE, everyone wears tennis shoes of some sort. A few were wearing those cheap looking plastic things that they say are so comfortable, but really look pretty trashy. TWO, two out of three are carrying a water bottle of some kind, apparenly concerned about dehydration. Years ago, we played outside all day, without a drink of water. Water breaks at work, were just an excuse to get away from your desk for a short time.

Then, some genius, decided to put water in a pop bottle and sell it. Was he stupid, or what? Now, everyone carries that bottle around.

Some were carrying the clear plastic bottle, that is supposed to ruin your health, a few had a reusable type, and I had to wonder, what kind of water is in that reusable bottle. Did they just pour water from their plastic bottle, into a reusable plastic bottle, or just use tap water, and if so, why.

A few had a reusable bottle with a large plastic ring, that they used to carry the bottle, dangling, from their little finger. I guess their little finger does not do a lot, so let it carry the water.

Oxygen, I can see a need for, but not water. One hospital employee, filled her clear plastic bottle, with water from the water fountain. Maybe that was just her security blanket or something.

My next invention, a tennis shoe, with a hollow sole, and a cap, so you can fill it with water. When you get thirsty, and I assume all of them do, take your shoe off, remove the cap, and take a swig.

The water stored in the rubber sole would be less harmful than water stored in plastic.

I admit it, I am a leg man, a nice dress or skirt, a nice pair of legs, that works for me.

At Riverside Hospital, this morning, between 10:20 and 11:30 in the GREEN area of the hospital, they have Blue, Green, Red areas, and if you ever get out of your color area, you could be lost for days, there were no skirts, all slacks, and hospital pants, and of course, water bottles and tennis shoes.
