On Thursday, and don't ask why, we pick up our five year old Great Grandaughter, Miss Brooklyn, and take her to her pre-school class. A long drive, but we are rewarded with a big wave, Grandma gets hugs and kisses, I get none, we wave at her sister, Miss Emma, and chat on the way to school.
"How was the pumpkin patch yesterday on your field trip ..... how is Miss Emma .... etc., etc., etc.
We pulled up in front of her school, she and my wife got out, and as she was exiting .... "Nice talkin to ya," and she exited the car. Five years old ..... Nice Talkin to Ya ........... my little Great Granddaughter said that ..... to me ......... Nice Talkin to Ya ........
It does not take a lot to completely brighten the day of an old person like me. Four little words, brightened my day ..... and a phrase I will never forget ....................... Thanks Miss Brooklyn, you made my day...........................

Miss Brooklyn embarks on her education .....
I cannot begin to tell you what went through my head when I saw her, holding on to Mom and Dad's hands, entering that door. I just know it choked me up a bit, no, a lot.
I think it just brought back so many memories, in just that instant, that it was rather overwhelming. I think my age amplified the event. I have seen my kids, my grandkids go through this, but a great grandchild is almost a gift .... from God ... that he has allowed me to live this long and to experience so much in my lifetime. And to see her walking through that door, on her first day of .... a big part of her life ... much of which I probably will not be around to see, well, it made me sad.
But, just look at that face, Miss Brooklyn .... she was so excited, starting school, what a big day in her life .... and I was there ...... thank YOU for letting me share in this day. Love you Miss Brooklyn.

Miss Brooklyn .....
I am sitting here, surrounded by quiet, drinking my first cup of coffee of the day. I have done a few posts on my blog, and, for some reason I have been overcome with sadness. I guess after reading the news in the morning, that is a logical reaction, and I have not even watched the local news from Columbus this morning.
Without looking I know there were a couple of shootings overnight, probably a robbery or two and a few fires, just in Columbus.
The only encouraging event was the National Anthem as it was sung by all of those in attendance at a Boston Bruin's Hockey game. That is on a previous blog, watch that if you haven't seen it yet. Momentary, and it will pass, but for a moment, there is hope.
I don't dwell on it, but I know the road behind me is much longer than the road ahead.
I think the sadness set in when I looked at a picture, posted by my granddaughter Amanda, of her daughter, Miss Brooklyn, the one posted above here. Miss Brooklyn is looking ahead, I pray to God, she is looking ahead to a full life, blessed with all the good things that life has to offer. But something about that picture of that precious little girl, so innocent and so young, looking ahead, really speaks to me, for some reason.
The sadness is my concern about what her future may hold. When I was her age in 1936, and a similar picture was taken of me, looking ahead, just think what all has happened during that time, until today.
The good news, we somehow live through it all. Just think of all that has transpired, in my lifetime, since 1932, the year I was born. Things have happened that we could not have dreamed of back then.
To a long and happy life, Miss Brooklyn ..................

Gampa, I farted!
"Gampa, I farted."
Yes, that is what our little almost three year old precious Miss Brooklyn announced to all in the room I guess she had, no one was aware of it, but she was proud. Now, I don't understand most of her words, after repeating a few times, and some additional questions asked, I understand her.
But, the "Gampa, I farted," came out as loudly and as clear as a bell.
That word has never been used by me, too much. I think it was the way I was brought up, that word was not used too often. It is normal for humans to pass flatus per rectum, although the amount and the frequency may vary greatly between individuals. My Dad was a Doctor, so it was looked upon as being a natural occurrence.
Personally, I never liked the word and all that was associated with it.
Recently, while shopping, Miss Brooklyn had to make a "potty stop." While sitting in the stall on the commode, like a "big girl," she loudly announced to her Mother, and all in listening distance, "Mommy, she farted," referring to the lady in the next stall. As they both left their stalls, the lady admitted to Miss Brooklyn, "Yes, I did."
Now, thanks to Miss Brooklyn, I proudly announce it to my wife, when it happens, "Honey, I farted!"
I admit this is not a god Christmas topic, but with all the political rhetoric going around, I thought that gas was an appropriate topic. Yes, that precious little girl pictured above is Miss Brooklyn.
