A 73-year-old man was struck and killed by a backhoe that was going in reverse as it was clearing snow on a Brooklyn street Monday, police said.
Police say the vehicle was backing up just before noon when it hit the man, who was crossing Oceana Terrace in the middle of the block.
The victim was identified as Stanislav Chernyshov.
NYPD said the backhoe was from a private company hired to clear snow on a private road through a residential development. It was not a city plow.
As of midday Monday, parts of Brooklyn had more than 5 inches of snow.
