Tribute Tuesday

A lot of ice out there this morning, 36 outside, not too bad. Looks a little slippery though. I don't know why, but some things popped in to my mind this morning while making coffee, things that are much more important in my life that I rarely realize.

For example, trash bags. I reach in the trash can, pull out the filled one, take a new one, make a few graceful motions to fill it with air, and, a new clean, scented, trash can to fill. Easy to take to the dumpster, convenient, smells nice, how convenient. I wonder how many are used, each day, in the world.

We have a "dish" pay more a month to watch TV, telephone and internet, that our house payment was, years ago. I am not sure how many channels, probably 30 or so. Last night, Marilyn and I were watching the news at 11, we were both comfortable, she had her Snuggie on, I had my blanket over my legs, both warm and toasty, so, after the news, we kept watching. She had the controller, and went through all the channels, and ended up where we often do, "Murder She Wrote." I wonder how many of those shows Angela Lansbury actually did. Maybe there are just so many that we forget, and they always seem new.

After that ended, more channel seeking, and where do we stop and watch, old Ben, Ben Matlock. What a big part of or television lives Andy, ah Ben .... ah, have been. I just watched another one, I don't think I had ever seen it. I remember at the start of every football season they would play his record, "What it was, was Football." It signaled the start of every new season. Sheriff Taylor, Aunt Bea, Opie, Barney, all were and still are a big part of our lives, and probably always will be.

Compare them to what is on today, I doubt that most will never be "rerun" again. Trash gets thrown out, not preserved.

I salute plastic trash bags, Angela Lansbury, Andy Griffith, better put Raymond Burr in there also, he has lasted also.
