A memory

This story came up recently, and someone suggested I should put it on my blog.

For many years, my SS check would come, I would endorse it, my wife would take it to the bank, and they would cash it for her, no problem. She even had my power of attorney to do so.

Then one day, she was at the bank downtown, and they turned her down, it had to be signed, by me, in front of them.

She called me, and I drove downtown to the bank.

The bank was pretty full when I entered, I spotted her, walked over, and she handed me the envelope with the SS check in it.

The bank was pretty full, I knew most of them, and they knew me.

As I opened the envelope and looked inside, I said, loudly, "How long have I been getting these?"

There was a quiet in the bank, as everyone stared her way.

I signed it, handed it to the teller, and walked out. I never looked back.
