I don't know that it was great, but we used to have to wait for things, we don't anymore, there is still anticipation, just not as much.
I used to have a camera, my first one a Kodak Brownie, some in between, then a 35mm Canon, and some others, but you would fill a roll, take it to the drug store or a camera shop, and "wait" a few days to go back and pick up the pictures.
We turned on the radio and had to wait for it to "warm up," didn't take long, but we waited. I knew I should be home by 5, clean up, and "wait" to be called to dinner. We would go to the drive in movie, early, sometimes take sandwiches or something to much on, and "wait" till it got dark, for the movie to start.
How about going to the drive in burger joint, order, and "wait," with the window rolled down for her to bring our tray and put it on the window, and we ate in the car. How glorious those meals were. My first burger was that way, have never forgotten it, never had a better one.
Woolworth's or a drug store counter, order and "wait" for the waitress to bring the sandwich, wearing that starched dress, starched apron, and a cute little hat. She generally had a lace handkerchief tucked in her belt, often chewing gum. But while you waited, all the "commerce" going on around you, eating in a crowd that way.
There is nothing wrong with "waiting." It can be good, quality time. Now we are an instant, throwaway society, we drink our water out of a plastic bottle. Tonight, I have noticed the commercials on TV. Some ads concerning diabetes combined with some ads for sugar and fructose laden soda, candy and a plethora of sugar laden products. One capable of spreading chocolate on anything. Candy and soda, everywhere. A walk through Walmart is a walk through "sugar land."
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies."

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. - Albert Einstein
Television is one daylong commercial interrupted periodically by inept attempts to fill the airspace in between them.If you can't start a fire, perhaps your wood is wet ....
