World Cup 2014 squads: Emphasis on youth for Australia

Australia appointed Ange Postecoglou with the task of bringing a new generation of Socceroos into the national team, and he hasn't disappointed with his provisional 30-man squad. There are still spots for veterans like New York Red Bulls striker Tim Cahill and Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak, but a third of the players picked are younger than 23.

Veteran center-back Lucas Neill is left out, with the back line probably the most concerning for the Socceroos. Newcastle United's Curtis Good is included, as is 21-year-old Bailey Wright of English third-tier side Preston North End. He's one of two uncapped players included, the other being Fortuna Dusseldorf frontman Ben Halloran.

Goalkeepers: Mat Ryan (Club Brugge), Mitchell Langerak (Borussia Dortmund), Eugene Galeković (Adelaide United)

Defenders: Ivan Franjić (Brisbane Roar), Matthew Špiranović (Western Sydney Wanderers), Curtis Good (Newcastle United), Bailey Wright (Preston North End), Jason Davidson (Heracles Almelo), Luke Wilkshire (Dynamo Moscow), Alex Wilkinson (Jeonbuk Motors), Ryan McGowan (Shandong Luneng)

Midfielders: Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace), Mark Milligan (Melbourne Victory), James Holland (Austria Vienna), Massimo Luongo (Swindon Town), Adam Sarota (FC Utrecht), Oliver Bozanic (Luzern), Matt McKay (Brisbane Roar), Mark Bresciano (Al Gharafa), Josh Brillante (Newcastle Jets)

Forwards: Tim Cahill (New York Red Bulls), Josh Kennedy (Nagoya Grampus), Tom Rogić (Melbourne Victory), Dario Vidošić (Sion), Tommy Oar (FC Utrecht), James Troisi (Melbourne Victory), Ben Halloran (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Adam Taggart (Newcastle Jets), Matthew Leckie (FSV Frankfurt)
