Anchor Hocking is temporarily shutting down its Lancaster, Ohio plant, following a disappointing financial report.
EveryWare Global Inc., which owns Anchor Hocking, said it is making the move to “reduce inventory and improve liquidity” and expects to reopen in three to four weeks.
Company officials could not be reached for comment.
Anchor Hocking had about 1,148 employees in Lancaster as of December, according to a report from the Fairfield County government. EveryWare posted a first-quarter loss of $38.4 million, which it attributed to a variety of factors, including high utility costs and a drop in sales to food-service companies.
“While our results over the past several quarters have been disappointing, we are taking actions that we believe will better position us for future growth,” Sam Solomon, interim CEO, said in a statement.
EveryWare, which has headquarters in Lancaster, also owns the Oneida brand. The company also is idling its plant in Monaca, Pa.
