SMI - 11/23/13

Another Saturday morning, cold and cloudy in Ahia this morning, a little on the gloomy side, but we are supposed to see the sun some today.

If you read my blog yesterday, you are aware of my theory on the Kennedy assassination. I have always felt it was somehow an "internal" event. Shortly after it happened, I shared my thoughts with some friends, some scoffed, some agreed. I think now, after a 50th Anniversary of great proportions, I am in more agreement with myself than ever.

If, he was in fact, facing a terminal illness, he would have been known as the President who served a few years, got sick, suffered, and passed on. Not a very impressive legacy to leave. But now, this way, we celebrate his "assassination" every year, and this year, the 50th Anniversary of his Assassination. And, we still remember him as the young, vibrant, charismatic President, husband and father.

What greater legacy than that. Was it planned by his father, his family? We will probably never know, but in my opinion, yes.

Thanksgiving in a few days, in a way I love this upcoming season, and, in a way, I dread it. I look forward to fixing the diner, having the family that is here in Newark, for diner, but, as a "worrier" I am  glad when it is over. I always think of those who have nothing, no home, no job, perhaps a dinner offered to them by some well meaning agency or individual. A few moments with a good hot meal, some fond memories, relived, then, back to reality. I think of my fond memories as a child, the warmth of a nice home, a loving family, a table loaded with fine hot food, and have to wonder what memories those children will have.

When I dream of hitting the lottery, that one that was 500 million, I wondered how much "good" I could do with that, how many families could I help, how many homeless could I get off the streets. Every cold Winter night, I envision some small child, huddled with a brother or sister, trying to sleep on the ground, and more so, about their future. I honestly don't see how Obama can sleep at night as long as some child is hungry, homeless, living under a bridge. Or, how can any of us?

For those reading this that do celebrate the Day, a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Love and Peace to the rest of my readers, all over the world.

Independence Day

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States.

Independence Day is the national day of the United States

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually in the United States on the last Monday of May.

Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War.

By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars.

Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

As a marker it typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5.

It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).

The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.

In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.

Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16.

Mother's Day

Image Detail
Mother's Day is a holiday in honour of mothers that is celebrated in countries throughout the world.

In its modern form the day originated in the United States, where it is observed on the second Sunday  in May.

Many other countries also celebrate the holiday on this date, while some mark the observance at other times of the year. During the Middle Ages the custom developed of allowing those who had moved away to visit their home parishes and their mothers on Laetare Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent. This became Mothering Sunday in Britain, where it continued into modern times, although it has largely been replaced by Mother's Day.

Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, whose mother had organized women's groups to promote friendship and health, originated Mother's Day; on May 12, 1907, she held a memorial service at her late mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia. Within five years virtually every state was observing the day, and in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday.

President's Day-A Washington Memo

George, would you believe, your country is $15.416,904,67,664.00 in debt and growing every minute. Now, let me explain who is President right now. Well, you remember those slaves that some people had, well, one of them is President, I can't explain it to you, it just happened, and he may be a Muslim, do you remember hearing about them, way overseas?

What, well yes, we have had a little trouble, well, hard to explain. We took the country back, then the North and South had a battle, then we took on Germany, then in the next one we took on Germany and Japan and some other countries, then a problem in Korea, then Viet Nam, then some Arab countries, and then, well, we've had some problems with what we "call terrorists."

What George, well a terrorist doesn't really have to do anything, they just have to threaten. Oh, they've done damage, flown airplanes into some tall buildings, well, George, we have really tall buildings now, much bigger and taller than your place. George, you can not believe all that has happened to this country since you were elected.

But, we did set aside a day for you, well, over the years there have been man presidents, actually, so we have one day for  all you guys. Well schools are closed, banks are closed, government offices are closed, and, so is the post office. What, well they deliver mail, to everyone, yea, at their homes. Expensive? Yea, well they are having a little trouble..

But, this day we set aside for you, and the other presidents. Well, I think we take a wreath to your tomb. A wreath is flowers in a circle, and a tomb, well, that is where you are buried. Well, they decided that Washington was a better place than your place, I guess.

Monday, July 5, 2010 - The Day AFTER we are Patriotic

Funny how we get patriotic at times, after the tragedy on 9/11, after Kennedy was assassinated, it seems to take a tragedy or a war to bring out the flags.

I watched on TV last evening in Washington and New York and Boston, everyone joining together, hand in hand, singing patriotic songs, waving their American Flags, all caught up in the emotion of the hour. Funny what firecrackers and fireworks can do.

I often wonder what different people, groups, gangs are doing. Is the Mafia partying somewhere, waving flags, singing patriotic sons. They should be thankful for what the country has done for them.

How about the gangs in New York and LA, I wonder how they celebrate the day. They should be more thankful than most for all the country has done for them, a real land of opportunity.

Congressmen and Senators, oh how thankful they should be. One of the celebrations did the Pledge of Allegiance at the end of the ceremony, I wonder how many had their fingers crossed.

I would have liked to be in the White House to see how Obama celebrated, was he sincere or chuckling, were his fingers crossed. What he has done to the country, well, I can see why he was not visible during any of the celebrations.

I wonder how many more 4ths we will be allowed to celebrate, it is offensive to some, well not some, now almost the majority of people who live here.

I finally figured out something to compare to what is going on in this country.

It is comparable to being on a roller coaster. The ride starts, it goes up and down, seems like it is out of control, you are scared to death, it goes fast, it goes slow, around curves, and there is nothing you can do, you have no control over it, you want to get off, but you can't, you have no control, you just sit back, hold on, shut your eyes and go along on the ride.

It would make a good cartoon,  Obama holding the roller coaster control stick, with a sly smile on his face.
