Walt Disney was the Head of Pageantry for the 1960 Winter Olympics.
8 degrees this morning in Newark, Ohio, and it looks cold outside, no sun yet. Will be so glad to see some Spring weather come down the pike.
Olympic opening ceremony was impressive, saw some of it...... grandeur at its finest. Amazing what 50 BILLION dollars will buy.. My favorite though is the athletes marching in, all those bright shining, smiling faces, to them, a culmination of a dream, a dream come true, it is great to share those moments with them. When I see a glowing smile as they enter, I try to imagine all of the work, all the time and practice, the dedication, that has enabled them to get to this point in their lives. One flag bearer, a young beautiful girl, from Lichtenstein, had an expression on her face that was priceless, pure unadulterated joy and pride, will never forget that "glow."
Now, we pray that there are no "incidents" during the games.
Sitting here, looking out of the window at the snow and the obvious cold, wondering when they start Spring Training and baseball season is here, that means Spring. Pitchers report first, I'm ready.
Jay Leno is gone, did not watch his last show, would like to know what all happened to bring that about, much more than we have heard, could be political move. There will never be another Carson, though. Have not watched much "late nite" since he left. "Once you've seen the best ............."
Speaking of the Olympics, I did see Walt Disney up at Tahoe. His company was doing work at Squaw Valley, decorations and themes, etc, did statues, etc, and he stayed for a time at the Nevada Lodge. He ate there occasionally, I think his wife was with him, not sure about that.
I have to get to my Saturday morning chores, I always think back to Alice Tuttle, in Reno, did her housework on Saturday, still remember that, and, of course, the SMI at The Citadel, the old Saturday Morning Inspection, bleached white floors, toothbrush detailing, spit-shined shoes, took all of Friday night to accomplish everything. I guess it was good for me though.
