Multi-car wrecks close Pa. turnpike near Philadelphia

The monster winter storm that socked the East Coast this week is causing mayhem on the Pennsylvania Turnpike outside of Philadelphia this morning.

Traffic accidents involving multiple tractor trailers and scores of cars have completely blocked one side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike outside Philadelphia and caused some injuries, according to multiple reports.

CBS Philly estimated the number of vehicles involved to be close to 100, including one accident involving 75 cars and big rigs. Traffic is snarled for miles.

“The worst accident I have seen in the 20 years I have been doing this,” traffic reporter Bob Kelly told CBS 3.

Ambulances have taken multiple patients to area hospitals, but the extent of injuries is not yet known. Images from news helicopters and others have provided a view of the chaos.
