Independent - Non-Partisan

I've seen some debate on my Facebook and some Blogs, about these two words. Are they the same, or do they have different meanings?

WEBSTER:

non·par·ti·san
adjective \ˈnän-ˈpär-tə-zən, -sən\
: not supporting one political party or group over another : not partisan

independent
not dependent" as not subject to control by others; self governing; not affiliated with a larger controlling unit

de·pen·dent adjective \di-ˈpen-dənt\: decided or controlled by something else: needing someone or something else for support, help, etc.

In Ohio a candidate runs, in the primary, for judge, as a Republican or a Democrat. In the General Election, a miracle occurs, the candidate is transformed, into a ...... Non-Partisan, miracle of all miracles. He goes from being supported by a political party, to NOT being supported. Miraculous.

I would not mind helping out in a campaign for a ...... Non Partisan. He is not affiliated with a party, no affiliations, and can be his own man/woman his or her mind is not make up, non partisan.

I am an Independent, not affiliated with anyone, I make my own decisions, don't talk with me, I am INDEPENDENT. A bit on the ..... cool side.

I may start a NONPARTISAN PARTY, we are affiliated with neither party, but open to valid suggestions from either one, we like to hear from anyone with a reasonable idea, attitude or suggestion.

"Are you a Democrat?"

"No, actually an NP, thanks for asking, is there anything I can help you with, or any question I might answer for you. If I can show you that we are the true party, would you consider joining us?"
