Some tidbits ...........

Any death is tragic, this one apparently more so, a promising career in Medicine, his schooling about completed  at Michigan.

Medical student Paul DeWolf, Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, was found dead by a coworker Wednesday morning in his apartment in the Phi Rho Sigma fraternity on North Ingalls Street, and was autopsied Thursday. The results show he suffered from a fatal single gunshot wound.

Ann Arbor Police Department Lieutenant Robert Pfannes said in a press release that DeWolf’s visible injury was unknown when officers arrived on the scene and an autopsy was then required. “Upon officers’ arrival, the apartment was orderly and valuables appeared to have been untouched,” Pfannes said in the release. He added that no firearm was found at the scene and that the investigation is still active.

The investigation started Wednesday morning and a crime alert was issued Wednesday afternoon, declaring the death suspicious.

DeWolf went to Schoolcraft High School, graduated from Grand Valley State University and was set to graduate from the University’s Medical School in May 2014.

University President Mary Sue Coleman issued a statement regarding DeWolf's death Friday afternoon.

"We extend our deepest condolences to Paul’s family, friends and colleagues," Coleman said. "He was working and training among a close, nurturing community of healers and I know they will help each other through this difficult time. They will need the support of the broader campus community in the weeks and months ahead, and we will provide it." Coleman said University Police have stepped up their presence around campus in response to the incident.

This is not tragic, but a darn shame. She is an exceptional player, and I rather imagine that it has been a dream of hers for many years to play in this game. I am sure she will have many more opportunities to play in this game, she will be an All Star for many years .... well wishes to her....
Elena Delle Donne will miss the WNBA All-Star game on Saturday because of a concussion. The No. 2 pick in the draft was injured in the Chicago Sky's loss to Washington on Wednesday when she was going for a loose ball with a minute left in the third quarter.

Delle Donne is the first rookie to lead the All-Star voting and will be replaced on the Eastern Conference roster by Atlanta's Erika de Souza. The former Delaware star is averaging 18.2 points, third-best in the WNBA. Delle Donne joins top draft pick Brittney Griner on the sideline for the league's showcase game this weekend at Mohegan Sun Arena. Griner is still recovering from a sprained left knee. She was replaced on the roster by Tina Thompson.Had Delle Donne and Griner both played, it would have been the first time in league history that two rookies from the same class started an All-Star game.

BRITTNEY GRINER

If you have followed sports, ladies sports, you are aware of this gal.........

The numbers are impressive -- Height: 6-8, Shoe size: 17 (men's), Wingspan: 86-inches, NCAA record 736 blocked shots, undefeated 40-0 National Championship season her junior year at Baylor, three-time First Team All-American, 18 career collegiate dunks -- but its the one-of-kind nature of Griner's size, strength, speed and athleticism that has captured the attention of every true sports fan.

The women's game simply hasn't seen a player who can run the court like a guard and also employ a back-to-the-basket, spin-move, two-handed slam dunk during the regular flow of a game. It just doesn't happen. Until now. Hyperbole Alert: Griner may indeed be the women's equivalent to Wilt Chamberlain.
